Those hideous luggage racks were always the source of mild controversy on the Triumph website, with some members insisting that the correct way to fit them is with the raised bar at the front, not the back like the one in the picture. The idea being that your straps hold the luggage on normally, the bar is to prevent you being decapitated by your picnic hamper in a collision.

Why do I get the impression people have been shunned from owners clubs because of this?

^Was wondering about that. It does seem a bit of an odd spec, and it is a very dark colour. It's just happened to fall onto my watch list, 'cos a 525 iX estate narrowly escaped my grasp last year. That was gold, but was also a RHD manual in a slightly odd spec.
