eBay tat volume 3.

(have I made any glaring errors?)

Well, you'll never be able to afford another! Prices are ludicrous for these right now so I hope you do well out of this one.

There was a late bay rolling shell up for sale at Stanford Hall last month for FOUR GRAND! Not sure if it had an engine but it didn't seem to have any glass or interior. At the other end of the scale an admittedly-beautiful early bay was being offered up at FORTY-TWO THOUSAND POUNDS. Madness.

That is one of the things that's kept it festering on my drive for so long.  I know it's a bit crap but when it works  it's quite good fun to drive.  I like the idea of a Bedford CA or Dodge Spacevan more but I expect they would be pretty dismal to drive.

Fuck sake how many million quid would you need to spend to get that sea worth again?

This advert seems a bit naughty. Lots of mentions of the specification of the original SSK but one line (and only one line) that gives it away is

We proudly present you recently fully rebuilt Mercedes SSK Gazelle from 1928 - based on VW Beetle from 1972 frame

No mention of it being a replica. Obviously it looks a bit shit as the front track is too wide and for reasons best known only to them they've used the beetle bumpers.

No one is fooled so be honest!

I was about to say 'paging Panhard65', but are these in fact yours that you're selling Mr P?

GLWTS if so.

Yeap they are mine I am not trying too hard to shift them. I just keep an advert going on car and classic just in case. I am stalled on the restoration at the moment trying to find someone to do the paint on the good one. I have had a couple of people say they will do it but then when I ask for a quote and when can you start it all goes quiet. No new project yet either, but it won't take long to find something if they do find a new home.

I Recon £5000 carefully spent would make seaworthy if you did most of the work yourself, Lifeboats are massively over engineered so the odds are that most of the underpinnings will be pretty solid. Its full of water which is a good sign, if it was dry inside that would be far more of a concern! The biggest problem with stuff like this is moving it as thats what costs the money.

I personally think the yard selling are being a bit speculative regarding the price and its realy value is nearer £1500 which is probably what its worth as spares.

In its favour the lifeboat has Virtually all its original features, and Its not really been messed about with too much in the past which as I've found counts for a lot when your taking on a project.

It never actually occurred to me until you said it that it was full of water but is up on dry land.

What became of your Juvaquatre personnalisée?

What became of your Juvaquatre personnalisée?

It did make it onto the road, but I only drove it the once and it was bloody awful due to the silly rear tyres so I sold it on. It was a major disappointment after all the work that went into it. Hopefully the Domaine will drive nicely when I finally get it painted.

"A bit naughty"? It's practically fraudulent! They're basically implying it's fitted with a 7 litre straight six FFS.

Dickheads.

I'd never heard of a Mercedes Gazelle, so I thought I'd google it to find out about the original...

They've done a good job. Can't tell the difference, well worth £29k BIN... :? :?

I fucking love this picture. Seeing how many Beetle bits I can spot....

switches;

laughably-positioned handbrake (and heater control levers);

pedals...

Twenty-nine grand! LOL.

Definition of replica in English: noun
An exact copy or model of something, especially one on a smaller scale:

Well it's smaller. £29k is flipping mental

Let's be total anoraks.

The ad also states

The SSK was the last car designed for Mercedes-Benz by the engineer Ferdinand Porsche before he left to found his own company.

This is incorrect. He left Mercedes-Benz in 1929 to work for Steyr Automobile. Due to the Great Depression, he was made redundant in 1931.

Only then he returned to Stuttgart and founded his consulting firm.

It also says

Assembly Bremen, Germany

Wrong. They were proudly manufactured at the Sindelfingen plant near Stuttgart.

The ex-Borgward factory in Bremen was used after its bankrupcy by Hanomag to build the Harburger Transporters.

Only after the takeover by Mercedes in 1970, Mercedesses were built there, initally still the Harburger, later the T1, then the W123/124 T Models.

That listing is such utter bullshit I'm tempted to report it.  Everything is a lie except the passing mention of '1972 Beetle frame'.

For £29,000 I'd like a replica that actually looks like the original. The AC Cobra copies at least look and sound the part, even close up. That Beetle framed thing has few similarities to ANYTHING.
