eBay tat volume 3.

NO, is the short answer.  It's almost double what I would expect to pay, and that would be for something I could drive home.

I'm becoming more and more convinced I've undervalued the Mercury by a huge margin, if the prices I'm seeing for scrap are the real market level.

The price of 70s/80s American stuff seems to be very high doesn't it?

I wonder if its because the people who grew up watching all the american shows and films like The A Team, Manimal, 48hrs, Blues Brothers, Streethawk etc are now middle aged with disposable income and these things are becoming desirable thus driving up the price?

Whether the same will happen to 90s stuff remains to be seen. Whilst the cars are distinctive and obviously American, I don't seem to remember them as much as cars in earlier years. People in films and TV programmes in the 90s seemed to drive a lot of European cars whereas in the 70s and 80s they only drove American normally which is maybe why we remember them so well.

I agree.  I blame Jonathan Hart.

In the 80s telly series, the baddies drove Mercedesesses, the good guys yanks.

In the 90s, the baddies drove yanks, the good guys imports.

The 50's and 60's stuff is very desirable and pricey now, the next best thing is the 70's and 80's they offer the same sort of perks in that they are still stylish (in their own way sometimes!) and traditionally built - separate chassis, rear wheel drive, V8 power or simple inline 6 with no computerised shit. So it's not that surprising prices are beginning to go up. The same happened to 70's Fords etc in Europe. Doesn't help if your in the market to try to buy one though, as the rough(er) cars lower in the market are also getting more expensive. Although that may start to put them less at reach to the banger racers and stop them smashing them all up!

It probably will happen to 90's yanks at some point but with them less of them were as stylish, less traditionally built, front wheel drive and computerised everything became widespread.

I don't think that any real yank in the European perception of what that is (which is drastically different from what the Americans perceive it to be btw.),

really is in shiter territory. However, if you play it smart and are content with a base version sporting numerous roof posts and doors,

you can still buy downright bargains even when it comes to finned 50s-60s stuff.

As always, the wise men stay out of the mainstream and opt for shite.

Prices for "Classics" are still climbing so the Yank tin is probably following that. Or folk are two picky.

My criteria for buying one if it ever happened would be V8 and automatic, which leaves plenty of choices.

I agree, those are mine, and I'm not even fussy about having a V8 at the moment, a six will do.  As others have said above, I know not to go looking at Mustangs and Chargers, in fact I prefer 4 doors.  I would still prefer RWD though.

Edit: I seem to have hijacked this thread, when there's a perfectly good thread about my Mercury already.  Maybe we should consider taking all this talk over there.

Guess what. This didn't sell!

However realising that he must have put it up for too much with a £599 starting price for a totally fucked Scirocco needing an exhaust, distributor and an MOT on top of it not starting because of a dodgy immobiliser, he has relisted it with a more realistic starting price:

£549.

Yeah, will sell for sure at that price.

I bumped into the seller of this on Facebook last week. I tried trolling him but to be fair to him he did not bite much which suggests he is either an okay guy or was simply sick of receiving abuse from people about the car.

Sadly, I think he needs to come to terms with the fact that the chances of selling this car for more than scrap is next to nothing.

I am sad because that applejack Metro 1.3S is about to go to a Mini-fancier for £400-odd and die for its engine, and I'm not in a position to go and collect it at the moment so can't save it.

far better yank tin out there, my Galaxie only owes me £4k now and that's it just about ready for the road, albeit still needing a respray. Shipping is easy, source a car from the States and bring it over yourself.

Eldorado or Toronado? I have wanted to try both since I learned of them from my new (1972) Observers book of cars. The original Olds was a more exciting shape, but on the other hand, 8.2 litres is more than 7.5litres

Neither of these though, no vinyl roofs for me. (see the above Granada for why)

I do have a soft spot for an Olds Tornado. The early ones are rare on these shores, buthe last ones were pretty bland and the exact opposite of how the the car started out.

Nah.... Eddy has these mad ideas now and then but in the end, Eddy is going to have to have something much older.  That's if there's any such thing within budget!  Even the bloody models are out of reach.

I watched all those things and I'm middle aged, it's just that last bit I never seem to manage.

Yeah... can someone explain this "disposable income" stuff to me?  The words look sort of familiar, but the combination doesn't make any sense.

I like this. Needs some welding. Seats are the same colour as those olives you sometimes get which are not as nice as the green ones. £850 classified with best offer.
