Anyone looking for a 4x4 should cast thy peepers at the Daihatsu. Very underrated and very capable.

Agree. They had a fleet of those in a salt mine I once had to install a concrete testing machine in. I was so impressed by what abuse they could take, that I bought a fairly new pick-up version at my local Daihatsu dealer. It was good, but rusted quite rapidly.

I had a SWB Fourtrak almost identical to that, except it had side windows in the back.  Same colour scheme and everything.  It was a non-turbo diesel with no PAS - heavy to park but a brilliant tow car, slow but unstoppable and not bad on fuel for a 4x4.  Utterly reliable too.  Replaced it with a 2.8 petrol LWB Patrol, which was a disaster.

Is it just me, or does the link for that Datsun koop take you to a page of kids' clothing?

We had a couple on the estate I worked on many, many years ago. They were basic, but I was very impressed with the towing ability and as you said, the punishment they could take. very popular with the farmers around here when the Defenders became too expensive..

The ones we had were N/A too and were never washed so they did rust  bit, but they rumbled on none the less.

Oh, and there was an uber rare one powered by BMW 2.4 iirc.  Avoid petrols.

Plus that mark 2 R12 has had a mark 1 grille stuck on.

That red Gamma Koop has been on EBay since Jesus was a teenager. The photos look like they were taken in springtime, but I assure you it wasn't this year. I normally get the hots for these but find that colour combo oddly unappealing.

Ah...the still-born Hillman Pimp prototype has surfaced

If it was a plod car I'd expect it to have a calibrated speedo too.

Whilst MV6 started as the designation for Police spec 3.0/3.2 s, it became a trim level for sporty six cylinder Omegas in 2.6 or 3.2 towards the end- they were very similar to Elite spec but some had leather Recaros.

Also I've seen auto ex-Police Omegas in auctions,I think for example, that all Diplomatic Protection Omegas were auto ,these were bright red but otherwise normal Police spec- steels, cloth etc. they were replaced by e39 then e60 BMWs , but now they've gone back to high powered Vauxhalls, Zafira diesels!

I don't like it. As a car, it's just ridiculously shit. As a Dyane, it's ruined.
