eBay tat volume 3.

Looking at where he's had it serviced, the car must have cost him ten times what he's asking.

What keeps me away from watchlisting it is that I'm afraid that despite its looks, it might have Japanese suspension.

need a bit of tlc

That's a funny way to spell coup de grâce. In fact it's only up the road from me so maybe I'll go give it one.

Edit:

Offside Direction indicators flashing less than 60 times a minute (1.4.A.2g)

First time I've seen that, must have been pretty tedious to work out (unless it was like three time in a minute). I googled it and saw a fail on another car for indicators flashing more than 120 time in a minute.

What would cause an issue like this?

Knackered flasher relay or (more likely on a Robin Reliant) dodgy earth.  Easily remedied with an electronic relay, available for a few quid off eBay.

Dodgy earths a common problem on them? It feels like every time I've ever looked at the MOT history on a Reliant they've been plagued with fails for electrics (mainly lights it seems) not working.

Provided 'one' involves a car crusher or a jet wash and a coat of paint, fill your boots. The vendor deserves poked in the eye with a sharp stick just for the 'Robin Reliant'.

Yep - tends to be the case with fibreglass cars as you can't earth the lights through the body like you normally would.  Metrocabs are a pain in the arse for it as well.

I had a 1992 Corvette LT1 in Polo Green from 2007-12, 'twas a fab toy with 300bhp and 1400kg that I bought and sold it for pretty much the same price as this. With loud S/S exhausts I suspect mine was a bit more uncouth though. 2/10 as a daily car, 11/10 as a toy.

Is this one of those ones that you need a barrel of gunpowder and a PhD in alchemy to start?

Sadly not. The D1706 was the first one with electric starter. When cold, it was run on petrol ignited by a spark plug, like an ordinary two stroke engine.

Once it was hot enough, it was switched to self igniting oil combustion, exactly like the former hot bulb engined ones.

It also had a significantly smaller cylinder with only 2.3 litres displacement, compared with the 10.3 litres of the old D9506 for example and created power via comparatively high RPMs.

To generally understand Lanzism, one must keep in mind that they aren't Diesels. They have single cylinder hot bulb engines, i.e. two strokes, fuelled by oil, or pretty much anything combustible, which is injected into the glowing cylinder head at each compression stroke and self ignites then. Thus in order to get them started from cold, the cylinder head has to be pre heated until red hot. The ones built before the D1706 are then hand started by means of inserting the steering wheel and part of the steering column into the hub of the RH flywheel and rocking the engine towards a compression stroke.

Yes, just insert the steering wheel to start it. I believe there was what was described as a 'rocking' starter motor but I know nothing more. Where have all the wonderful ideas gone?

Down history lane.

If I merely imagine one of those scared of everything weak weeds Junkdaughter #1 continues to drag in from the street starting a Lanz, I'm in stiches.
