Shitting in the shallow end. *Arse friends Electric*

My first 205 had a cheap aftermarket knob that would rotate as you changed gear. Not irritating at all.

Nice buy! I love the blue tinted dash. Dashboards don't have enough colour these days.

Are cracked knobs a common problem?

Very common. So common in fact that a replica market emerged as they've been nla for a long time. You can get the replica replacements on eBay now at a reasonable rate but the fits not the best. I dunno why Peugeot didn't just fucking thread the lever like normal car companies.

Is it possible to remove the knob and tap a thread on the end of the stick? The world would be your oyster then.

It's been a while since I pulled a knob, but I THINK there's protruding sections from the shaft with vertical splines on to aid the idiotic push fit system. So not simply. Though I may be mis-remembering.

You remember correctly. The top of the shaft is like a cross shape and the knob slides down over it.

The shaft under the knob is cloverleaf and is ribbed for her pleasure. You can't fit universals to these gear levers very easily without taking a few cm off the top.

This is the earlier 1980-1985 knob which also fits the shaft, as you can see underneath it takes a square section shaft.

Am jealous, this is my ideal spec 205. Towbar, 5 doors and 1.4 petrol.

When are you going to sell it?

Everything is always for sale man. Offers perpetually entertained.

I've just insured and taxed it though so only just settling into ownership.

Let's wait until you get bored. Would be even better if that coincides with another forum member having a need to travel from your neck of the woods to south devon... otherwise it's going to be an expensive collection mission...

I have been stockpiling parts like a demented lockdown squirrel with a view to a BIG REFRESH on the 205.

The big pile so far consists of:

Downpipe, middle section and backbox (with associated gaskets, hangers, bolts and clamps)

It's blowing from somewhere up the front, I don't look of this join and the back box is welded to the centre currently.

Filters and fluids.

Cam belt, water pump, alternator belt.

Fuel lines (few bits of clear hose on at the mo, which isn't ideal)

Also got some bottom arms, drive shafts, wing mirror to go on at some point.

Should be a great, sorted example once it's all done.

Still used and enjoyed most days. Still not gotten round to grid charging it, still loving it.

It's preposterously reliable for such a complex piece of machinery and it's still getting high 60s mpg just doing 2 mile cold runs to the shops and back.

It's got it's knocks, gouges and dents but I think it will shape up to be a fine old crew cab 205.

Fingers crossed, touch wood, hail holy Mary.

I have a silver disclok spare, if anyone wants it.

Only came in to ask how it was going with the Insight! How terribly dull!

Mine has been sat for nearly 4 months through extended lockdown at Shateau 69 due to shielding. I did a discharge cycle a couple of weeks ago and will probably wait until I need to use it again before I do anything else. Assuming I ever get to go back to an actual workplace, that is.

I'll have that disclok for the Insight if it's still going @paulplom? Swap you for a box of beers?

Progress is being made with the crew cab 205.

Popped into excellent local garage for a barrage of fine fettling.

Bag of fixes:

IMG_20200727_100639.thumb.jpg.b68535796d2b42c5c3e164740faa7a95.jpg

Big long pipe/rocket launcher:

IMG_20200727_100839.thumb.jpg.3ac4ff22e5861b85fbbb48373512a867.jpg

From under the ramp the verdict  was that it's absolutely solid and well worth a bit of love. I should hope so at just cresting 70k, it barely even broken in.

Work completed over the last couple of days:

Oil and filters service (oil, air, fuel).

Cam belt kit.

Water pump and fresh coolant.

Alternator belt.

Full exhaust system manifold back.

Various fuel lines including big long one front to back. (One had been leaking in the bay)

Rocker cover gasket as it was pissing oil.  Now the oil stays in the engine.

With all that accomplished, it's fair to say all of the potentially fatal  failure components have now been renewed.

It's not all good news though. The KNOB has finally succumbed to NORMAL USE and began reducing itself to its former component parts.

IMG_20200729_160428.thumb.jpg.193a23c5f85ac903cd3f9beadab3039e.jpg

Shame knob.

Being a dedicated follower of high fashion, I have ordered a replacement from that France over the water.

Now that the petrol stays in all the right places, I thought I would treat to to twenty quids worth.

IMG_20200729_160718-01.thumb.jpeg.4a0a1d548d469b04c227f8c20e55a2a5.jpeg

Now that I've lavished expenditure on it, it's probably time to sell it.

Undecided for the moment but work is looking more uncertain by the week so may have to go in the end. We shall see.
