Oh well. Was worth a go.

Seems like the housing or hose is split bad as liquid is running out of there now.

It's not so bad when you can see where the issue is. My Exploder is using a bit of water and I've discovered a leak from a similar location, it's always a relief when you can pinpoint the problem. Fixing it is a different thing of course...

There's as much holes as there is pipe.

I reckon you should get shot dude, get it moved to somewhere it can be safely* repaired with a donor engine.

I don't know anyone with space or money. I'll just scrap it I think.

Is that red coolant or is it just rusty?

I'd imagine these are of the age where they should get the blue stuff, if someone's added red to blue then it supposedly forms a jellatinous spunky sludge that gums up things like engine blocks and radiators... Might be worth trying a cheap coolant flush product and starting fresh.

What's better is that I've not seen it and I'm still at work.

Guilty. The one I removed was jammed right open, not ideal when I owned it in December and January.

Shame its given you bother.

That's incredibly shit luck, I was mildly disappointed it had sold so quickly but actually looks like I dodged a bullet not having a chance to buy it.

That's gutting for you. Really sad to see. Hope some good comes of it now, even as a spares car.

New thermostat housing from my estate has seemingly solved the problem.  Seems to be fine.  Passenger window, tyre, pulling steering, squeaky exhaust, shit stereo, bit of rust on the driver's door.

Seems alright.

I'm sad that you didn't get to enjoy for long but Im happy that it went to loserone in the end. I'm also happy that this didn't happen during the upcoming meet...

Just catching up with all this and I really don't know what to say. This car had been my sole transport for 6 months and had never put a wheel wrong beyond dropping its exhaust on Great Western Road one wet Sunday morning, and reading through all this is quite sad. I knew the coolant was a bit past its best but it had always stayed inside the engine had never shown any signs of misbehaving like this, even sitting in heavy traffic on a hot day.

What's the diagnosis then, was it all down to a duff thermostat housing and now it's all working again or has it done an OMGHGF and that's why there's a picture of the head off it?

Parts of Loserones currently resting 405 1800 estate were used to fix the 1.6. (that's an 1800 head in the pic).

I sold LoserOne the 1.6 for scrap money in the hope that Scaryoldcortina could put it right, and he did.

So it lives on and is fixed up better and stronger than before with its new owner.

What a rollercoaster of emotions this thread has been over such a short space of time!

Was it because of the sun roof and your head - really?

The sun roof grimace picture a couple of pages back sums up the experience for me better than any words ever could.

I'm a shortarse so i don't have that bother with sunroofs. I dont buy cars with them as i want to keep maximum rigidity in the cars structure to ensure that I have the cars maximum handling potential for my drive to the co-op in the villiage to buy some sausage rolls and a copy of the Radio Times.

Thanks for riding with us. Remember, you can buy a picture of your face at the end of the big drop for only £10.

See one of our scantily clad male promotional staff on your way out near the dog shit bin if you're interested.

Well.

Reasons to be cheerful. One. Two. Three.

Crank pulleys not broke, mechanic is a good bloke, Volvo's lookin smart and doesn't need a new part, driver's wheel still loud I'll drive it cause I'm not proud, thought it very funny and wouldn't take my money. Reasons to be cheerful. One two three.

IMG_20190718_141842-01.thumb.jpeg.4d6df8ebab30581e31fc525cceb8b86c.jpeg

So the crank pulley has been wiggled and pryed to satisfaction of all parties. Consensus is THERES NOWT RONG WITH THAT.

There's still a rotational noise from the driver's wheel area once up to road speeds. Suppose it might be the bearing or some brake related japery. I  don't think I'm comfortable selling it while there's an unidentified noise so I'm gonna drive it round a bit and see what happens.
