BMC/BL Rally 2009

It may have been BMC/BL day, but I went in the 2CV, and was pleased to see some other non-BL stuff too. And I got a workshop manual for the Triumph Herald/Vitesse which might be handy...

I haven't cropped images yet, sorry.

Hey, OKJ! Nice pics, that brown Sh/Sprite is ace.

Yup. I much like Mashs's Datsun. There were loads of dutch there but I managed to get pretty much zero photos of NL-shite. There were even a few Germans there. Shite-love is Euro-wide for sure.

Now that you mention it, the two Metro shots before the last one feature Dutch cars!

Rare as foook 8)

Just what i was thinking, I'm sure i had/have a magazine that saved one of these from a scrapyard years ago, Number plate looks the same.

loving the spots, wish there was shows like that round here.

Thanks for showing me what i missed. First time I've not been for a few years. We were busy elsewhere watching mostly old folk rag the nuts of ancient cars with aeroplane engines fitted.... :D

That Morris wedge looks very familiar, I can't remember where I've seen it before though!

I look like the hunchback of Longbridge!:P

Some stunning and rare cars there. My fave of the day was a beautifully restored Marina TC coupe in a colour I've not seen before. Will get my snaps up eventually.

BMC/BL autojumble and I came home with a hubcap for my Datsun Violet - go figure!

Is the Morris Wedge Nick Larkins?

I was with Peter Simpson when it came in, and he thought it might have been. It isn't now but when I saw Nick later in the day, I forgot about it as I was a bit overcome by the deliciously shambolic state of his P4...

ooh, my Ambassador hearse looks good from that distance, doesn't show the failing paintwork - hoorah for ally metalwork!!

I went to the show, nice weather great cars. Didnt get the inner wing I needed for my Allegro though!Dollywobbler, you passed me on the way in on the fast dual carriageways. I couldnt keep up. I never realised 2CVs were so nippy!

Posted

Ah, was that you in the Audi Tim? Thought it looked a bit RR-ish. Had some bloody good fun hooning about on that roundabout, taking the Civic up in the inside (they never expect me to be going that quick...)2CVs are slow - the trick is to not slow down...

These pics make me wish I'd known about it earlier and formed a plan! I've been to this event twice before in my pre-digital days. I must find the pics and scan them in. Mark.

TC looks rather impressive! Despite the sporty appearance of the wheels, it would seem they have no slots - what look like them are just painted on?On the subject of early Wedges, a few weeks ago I saw a yellow one which a local dealer had for sale on Car & Classic. Was being trailered south down the A140, obviously sold. A nice sight.

More selected highlights

Extremely tidy earlyish Maxi in suitably shitey colour:

Posted Image

Same colour but considerably more scarce OMG MARINA VAN!

Posted Image

Who'd have thought it? It was bloody mint mind you:

Posted Image

Can't make up my mind if this was standard colour for Allegros:

Posted Image

This is STUNNING. Seen before but always worth a drool. Belongs to that vicar fella:

Posted Image

Maestro club very enthusiastic this year and showing cars in typical poses... :P

More in a mo.

Trompe l'oeuil rims, innit? Didn't even see that, now I like them even more. 4x114.3 pcd by any chance?
Posted

Don't think they are, thought it's only Marina van/pickups that are 114.3mm?

Posted

Hmm, think you're right - this is 4x95.something.

Posted

Ooh, is that Limeflower on that greeny-yellow Aggro? Anything's possible.Great to see an early Maestro with those 12-hole steel wheels. Chrome mirror cappings and headrest pads make me think it might be a 1.6 HLS masquerading as a VDP?

Nice to see standard, worth a trillion pounds no doubt:

Vanden Plas 500 - very rare:

Very beige, very low mileage:

I have always wanted one of these. Would love to tear up behind old chaps with lights blazing and bell ringing :lol:

This was lovely, done just right:

Well patinated S1:

Last batch for now as I ought really to get back to work.....

Be like me only tattier and paler!

Close ups of that wedge:

Badge says it all really. The browny gold velour seats in this were hideous - I thought they would have been black or grey:

Delightful J2:

Ex-Mash Dolly 1300, still in suberb nick:

Shock news, non-rusty Rover 200!
