Saw one of Eccles ancestors in London earlier, a B reg Mk3 Escort estate. I'll post a photo once the problem with uploading is sorted. Eccles is fine, not seen much use the last week as we have been in Spain.

Coincidentally, I saw a Mk 3 today. Gave the thumbs up, got a wave and smile in return. In my mirror, I saw text on rear screen: RS2000

It'll be wanting a cambelt soon, interval is 125k/10 years but I usually recommend 115-120k/9 years (or 90k/9 years where 100k is recommended) on the DV6, your 1.5 is just a derivative of it. They're prone to failing pretty much bang on the interval and sometimes even earlier

Yeah I know Eccles will need a cambelt soon. I wonder why some sources say 112500 and others say 125k.

I think a TSB was issued to revise the official interval due to some occurrences of premature failure 👍

Took a ride out in Eccles to Wrest Park today, the last time I was here was in Henry.

I also saw a 02 reg  Mk1 estate earlier, a rare sight these days, this was even more unusual as it was a pre face-lift. Typically I was driving at the time so couldn't get a photo.

Not all of the trips this year ended up happening for various reasons, next year I am hoping to finally get to Stow Marie and Biggin Hill as well as the Severn Valley Railway. Also on the list for next year is the tank museum at Bovingdon.

Posted

Another trip on the list for next year is Krakow and Auschwitz in April, though Eccles will be staying at the airport.

Cambelt and auxiliary belt are nearly done, Eccles will need a new engine mount soon though as it is leaking oil. According to the mechanic doing the belt it isn't a hard job to replace though, they just bolt on, so hopefully won't be too expensive to replace.

It's just as well I got the belts done today as it turned out the auxiliary belt was cracking and the tensioner of the auxiliary belt was more fucked than a Hessle Road prostitute.

The engine mount is getting replaced Monday along with an oil leak the mechanic found getting sorted

Eccles has had a trip to York yesterday and a trip to Hornsea Garden Centre today, on the way back he clicked over 109770 which marks 16k since purchase

The driveshaft seal has been replaced along with the engine mount, the next jobs on Eccles are replace the n/s/f wheelbearing and rear shock absorbers

All good, worthwhile maintenance. They're good engines when looked after. Engine mount would have been taken off to do the cambelt so would have been a shame if they didn't manage to do it at the same time. They're common for leaking across the board, both my MK2s had to have new ones

The only reason it didn't get done at the same time as the cambelt was I used a mobile mechanic to do the belts and until the car was stripped down I didn't know it needed doing, so the mechanic had to order one in, ditto the oil seal.

Another mileometer moment yesterday. Eccles will have done around 11000 miles this year by the time New Year comes, which is low for me, its usually 13-14k a year. I need to get him in after Christmas to get the grumbling front wheel bearing changed, I'm also hoping to get up to Northumberland to see family at some point, which will add another 300+ miles.

I couldn't think of anything worse than doing a wheel bearing outside let alone mobile

Your hands either freeze off or you have no feel when wearing thick gloves.

Yes I'm a workshop baby 😂

I've served my time doing stuff like that 😂

I try to look after my body now,

I don't try gearboxes without a jack, why make it harder 🙂

Yes, I suppose I'm a wimp in other words 😅

Me, who doesn't like having cold hands 🤣

Nothing worse than smacking your hand against something while it's red/purple cold 😰
