Something stuck in it? I'd fill it with WD40 as it might just be a build up of dirt you can flush out.

The EML turns out to be linked to the turbo boost hose.

Booked in for new tyres Friday, I'm getting Avons as I never had a problem with them on my old Fiesta. I've also got a pair of new tailgate struts coming from the bay of E.

Posted

Tailgate struts seem a common problem on these! Had to do them on my mk1. Actually, had to do them twice as the first replacement set only lasted about 18 months. Second lot seem better.

Didn't know they were a common problem, thanks mrbenn

Guy I know actually had the following advisory on his 06 plate mk2:

  • boot struts weak

Wonder if the boot fell on the testers head while he was checking the spare

Tailgate struts arrived today, all being well should be fitted tomorrow

Finally got round to putting some WD40 in the seatbelt fastener, it's improved it so just have to keep an eye on it. It clips in just is stiff.

New front tyres now fitted and it's made a big difference to how the car responds. I'd suspected the balancing was out as it had a wobble on the steering at higher speeds.

The car meeting a Mk1 Spitfire replica at The Yorkshire Air Museum earlier

I never had a problem with Avons on my old Fiesta. Do you mean the cars colour or the planes colour mrbenn lol?

Ha, the car. Though now you mention it the plane would look quite dashing in that sort of electric blue colour....

Lol I wasn't sure which you meant. I like the cars colour

The Focus appears to be losing water somewhere although there's no sign of a leak that I can see. Don't think it's OMGHGF as there is no gunge in either the coolant or oil and the car isn't overheating. Any fellow shiters have any ideas?

Posted

With common failure points on these I'd be looking at:

- thermostat housing

- coolant explansion tank

- water pump

Posted

It would appear to be the header tank that is leaking so will order a new one tomorrow.

Posted

New header tank ordered from the main stealers, about £33 including VAT not too bad.

Just spent half an hour doing a couple of jobs on the car. New header tank and tailgate struts now fitted.

Bugger. New header tank made no difference to cars thirst.

Posted

No sign of any leaks that I can see. Having left it for half an hour earlier coolant was draining back into the header tank. Anyone know if this is normal for Foci? It seems to still be using a bit but nowhere near as much as it was.

Posted

The old header tank was grotty as hell and it was impossible to see how much coolant was in without taking the cap off

Posted

Concensus of opinion is it's either an air lock or the thermostat housing. I'll see how it behaves tonight then check the thermostat housing tomorrow.

Posted

Bugger. Not an airlock, there seems to be a leak somewhere down the back of the engine. Been given some radweld to put in to hopefully seal the leak as unlikely to be economic to repair properly. Also needs new rear brakes so booked in for those on Wednesday.
