Looks like this is mine - after a last 11 second Ebay sweat.

30,000 miles from new! AND Moss Sand metallic!

I may just have an accident in the underwear department :D:D:D

I'll be happier when it's back here in Cheshire - I'll be over the moon if it goes - and if it does, then the sound of that 1647cc engine will probably cause me to have another accident in the underwear department :D:!: Already have a spare straight rear bumper and whilst I suspect that it's not all great, who cares - it's a September 79 18 TS :!::!:

That's fantastic! I'm really please for you, it looks superb.

Cool!, I've been watching that, eyeing it up, Just hope it's not more rotten then a box of 6 month old rotten bananas.Look forwards to seeing the photos of it once you get it home! :P

*jealous*Was it under threat then?

What - it's a Renault 18??!!!!!

Already I'm thinking, outer sills, outriggers for jacking points at the front - and - it's GOT to be both ends of the scuttle panel (looks like they've already been fiddled with).

I owned a "mint" 1979 18TL in 1988 - it was so good that it looked like new. . .

from a. a distance and b. the top side only!

I'm expecting to be underwhelmed - but I love the Renault 18 and at least it's not scrappage :D:D

Will post photos once it's with me.

Did you have to pay through the nose?

Did you have to pay through the nose?

Sort of relative really. In 2003 I paid £350 for my American with 32k on the clock - I had to have the rear wing repainted and it will need a new inner wing (possibly the outer) plus some work on one jacking point soon.In 2004 I bought my 34k T reg TL which still needs the front wings doing for £250 (it was up for £1500 :shock: )I won this for £310. If it's truly shit then I'm willing to walk off and take a neg feedback. A few years ago I'd have walked away from an un-Moted R18 unless it was a give-away.However - if you look at the price some true shit is going for, then I'm willing to risk it. What the French seem to term an "impeccable" (i.e. complete bollocks) R18 goes for about 1500-2000 euro. Some "classic" Renaults have gone for really stupid money now that Ebay is the first port of call for vendors, instead of the owners club.Think I've convinced myself

How did you manage that! :D

I got on the old guy's tits :D:D:D

No way it was worth £1500 - although it will be lovely when I get round to sorting it - inside it smells like a Renault 18 with vinyl seats did when it was in the showroom - I still remember!

He had more than one car for sale (suspect he bought and sold old bangers as a hobby) and kept phoning me as it became obvious that wanted shut of the 18 as nobody else wanted it. . .

Believe me -

Nice work, the gold one looks really tidy and I hope it turns out to be as good, or better, than you expected. The green one is fantastic, take it you still have it?

Nice.Thought about it-quite hard- but the distance (combined with current ill health) & 2 existing 18's (saloon & estate) stopped me biddding. But only just. Good luck-hope ita ''good un''

Make sure you post some pictures when you get it back! Looks like you have the same thing going on for Renault 18s that I have for Peugeot 305s.

Yes would too! Seen it before but always like seeing it again... 8)

There is a guy on Facebook who has created himself an MSN style 'The Most Hideous Cars Of All Time' photo album including the 2CV, the Allegro, the Allegro estate, the Princess, the MkII Scorpio, the Tredia, the Metro, the Belmont, the R12 & the R18.

I nearly got into an argument with him & somebody else who butted in over the R18! :x

This is a guy who adores Marinas & Sigmas! How can you hold a candle for shite like that yet toss it away for those mentioned above!? :?

Where was it? Scotland? The best stuff is always in Scotland!

Funny how the rear number plate looks crowded! Did all reg plates of that style not include spaces?

Somehow I suspected you would end up owning that  Hope it's a good un, I did briefly consider a bid myself but didn't bother on the basis of already having too much around here thats not getting done...

Love it, well done!Another example of a once fairly common car that now seems to have vanished off the face of the earth.

Ahh so nice to see one saved.

I had a GTS. It was 3 yrs old when bought with 100k on and I traded it in 86 with 160k for a 316 on an X plate. By that time the inner wings were departing and the outer ones were starting to join them.

I put the Renault boutique 4 spoke steering wheel on it and the towbar to tow my grass tracker around.

It came to me with cruise control on it. This was a vacuum bellow on the OSF chassis leg that controlled it. Very nice in its day though.

Ahh nostalgia. My grandad had one in dark green with I was a young'n. Fond memories of these.

Please don't mention it - I'm refusing to go back to the Ebay page to look at it!!What are the chances of 2 1979 R18TS - both with 30 odd thousand on the clock, turning up in the same week?? Green one same as my TL - same month of registration and identical to the car my dad had back in 1981.If it had been an LS estate however, I'd be straight in!

Posted

What sort of reserve would you expect on that? :)

Posted

Can't help but wonder if it's set at what the one I bought went for - perhaps a bit more?Bit difficult to tell nowadays, as some people will pay daft money.Looks a good car though - early TS without the rubber trim on bumpers and doors:D

Posted

Go on, get 'em both, you know you want to...

Yeah I really would!!!Sadly, it's a bit far to go and get the green one - I'm already taking my life in my hands borrowing a 1990 LDV car transporter to get the gold one. Have you ever seen "Airplane" (Surely you can't be serious?!) when he lands the plane and the joystick is moving around all over the place and he's sweating like mad?Well above 35, the LDV's steering wheel is the same, moving around so much that a mate of mine said he'd feel safer getting out - whilst we were moving on the M60 - it has wipers which lift off the screen above 30, the starter switch is held on by a single tie-strap and when I brought my Renault 11 back from London 5 years ago, I used two tins of de-icer. . .to keep the inside of the screen from freezing.Unless that green TS is a driver or has a cloaking device, I'm afraid it'll have to go elsewhere.Sad thing is, someone will get a nice car and with very little effort, make a f*cking fortune out of it - sadly been there before :(
