Yup definitely worse than wearing a brass dive helmet while driving an unregistered glorified wheelchair.

Can we get back to the original theme of this thread, please. Other U4 wheelers might consider their own

Just so I can sleep, I'll have one more try

Human beings are tribal, in groups and out groups. I see this with my autistic daughter - mainstream school didn't want her, neither did most of the specialist sector, we searched 18 months before a school said 'yes'.

So I think I speak from a bit of experience to say that Invalid carriage people are always in the out group - not accepted by the microcar scene, tolerated on the rum car forum.

I think if we had a vote tomorrow, invalid carriages would be banned from this forum by popular opinion, but I also thought we were bigger than that - and were inclusive on principle - not to meet some diversity target - just to be on the side of the shiter, however odd their proclivities (leaving the law to one side right now).

Maybe that's utopian, but that's what I thought AS is for, otherwise we're just a shit retro-rides or bangernomics forum.

I dont think that invalid carriages would be banned from this forum if there was a vote. I certainly wouldnt advocate that. They are shit old cars and rightly deserve a place here. And if they are correctly registered and insured they have a place on our roads too. I think the issue has been the creep of the wee blue beasties into every thread, which seems to have been taken on board and addressed now

This is probably the best thread on the internet right now. Brilliant ebb and flow, lawlessness, an artist in residence, someone shouting insults like a pissed up character from ‘Shameless’… it’s all going on.

I’m not sure it’s even possible to improve it. Maybe this is the peak?

I agree, I never used to read it because I thought it was all about invacare, but it’s got so much more to offer.

Now if someone is offended by cake I can either, 1, share it with you, 2, make a sugar free version if required, or 3, offer an apple pie?  As for sizeist, I am far from weight watchers, other weight loss plans are available, please lose weight responsibly, please devour cakes irresponsibly, but not while driving an invalid carriage!

Tangents aside, @LightBulbFun, what are prices like for Invacars? How much for a running one and how much for bran find like the £5k mystery machine

yeah its all gone a bit silly IMHO, I mean in the end all I care about is that it finds a good home so I aint gonna judge you if you said "I just bought it for £10K!" if I knew you where going to be a good home for it, thats all I really care about in the end!

but I do agree that in general its gone a bit silly, and I find it sad because it does put these out of the reach of enthusiasts that I know who would be a good home for a Model 70, but simply dont have the capital to splurge 5K on one!

and this is exactly why I made such a big push to get a Model 70 when I did despite everyone else shouting at me not to, because I could see this sort of rapid price rise coming a mile away, and knew If I did not get one then, it would become much more difficult/expensive afterwards!

at the same time hopefully it being so expensive does insure it goes to a good home, someone spending £5K on such a vehicle like this is unlikely to be doing something silly/harmful to it, where as someone picking one up for £500 might have less then good intentions for it

but also at the same time I do worry that in time Model 70's will become to be seen as "Money objects" like whats happened to most other well known microcars, bought by people for "look at this rare, expensive and appreciating asset I have" rather then bought by someone who would actually appreciate it for what it is "look at this little blue 3 wheeler I bought because its awesome and has a fascinating history behind it"

but this is exactly what they mean by Swings and roundabouts I guess!

currently running Model 70's seem to be hovering around the £3K-£5K mark, I'd of expected a mystery machine like this to go for about £2K-£5K (although I only expected it to hit £5K at the end) but when it comes to Model 70's and the prices they fetch its very much a case of which way the wind is blowing, and if it gets picked up and shot-gunned across social media like this one was

also this only applies to Model 70's, Villiers and Electric machines are still pretty flat on their arse, everyone just wants a Model 70, no one wants to give the Invacar Mk12 or AC Acedes any love sadly!

seriously I was keeping tabs on the sale of NPB840D and it was almost amusing! he would advertise "I have an AC invalid car for sale" everyone "oooh what is it it!" him "its not a Model 70" and then just *dead silence* from everyone previously expressing interest,  I genuinely felt bad for the poor chap!

which is what makes @AdgeCutler Mk12 restoration all the more awesome :)

I would love one to bring back to life, but I'm not about to spend £5k on a daily driver - let alone a machine that needs that much work.

Funny one, innit? High entry points do keep some people out of classic* ownership - and that's a bit of a shame.  However, firm prices also stop things getting crushed for trivial reasons.  Nobody in the UK things twice about throwing a 15 year old, perfectly serviceable, car away because it needs work.  But if that £400 Ford Focus was worth £5,000 - it'd be getting new discs and pads all round and - who knows - maybe even a wash too!

When the Sierra was £700, it was genuinely at risk of getting raced.  It's probably worth getting on for £3k now which reduces that significantly.  At the point it's north of £5k I'd say that it'd only end up getting bangered if it was stolen.

All told, higher asking prices that better reflect the value of things is probably better than the alternative.

This is it, Invacares are one in a long line of cars that values will likely fluctuate on, they’ll always hold a value to someone but it’s a pretty niche market.

I’ve certainly got my doubts on the current Invacare auction being genuine bidders but we’ll see!

Like @BorniteIdentitysays, pricing plays a big part in saving classics* too. If Invacares and other cars were only worth £500, most people wouldn’t bother saving them. Look at stuff people will be scrapping now and in 10 years saying “corr I scrapped mine as they were worthless, now it’s worth 10k!”

If Hagerty start quoting Invacare values then you'll know that they've arrived and the values will go up as a result. Maybe enough to start producing replicas as Dobloseven says, there seems to be enough fibreglass moulding expertise out there looking at the garden ornaments that you can buy, which appear to be far more elaborate.

It is not Hagerty's fault squarly lies with Mr DollyHubnutter's fault. Hagerty have only written about him. 😁 Plus there was the Oxford model of TWC.
