I’ve had email exchanges with the people who bought it, swapped wiring diagrams and other info… I’ve seen a video of it running and sent one of mine running to them….. it’s been a fun journey and a very small club to be part of….

prices depends on whether there is a decent battery included….. a complete set of batteries for this runs into the best part of £800 to - £1k

After several attempts to tighten the exhaust nut on Brian and each time the exhaust coming loose when the engine gets hot climbing the Cotswolds, I decided to make a suitable C spanner. I had perhaps been overly cautious previously due to worrying about damaging the cooling fins. Anyhow I no longer need to make one as this lovely original is now mine.

always wondered if any of TWC's sister cars had been papped! Obviously like most other Model 70's there was a whole block of TWC's TWC701K-TWC800K

so the possibility was always out there, but the statistical chances of it where slim, so this is very awesome to see! its also awesome to see as its a highly original spec car, and shows what @dollywobbler's TWC would of looked like when new (give or take some wheel trims!)

complete with original rear lights, dash-change still even (which is pretty interesting to see still present in 1980) and  Tippers pressed number plates

also I love all the mechanical noises as you change gear it proper sounds like some sort sort of machine that you really have to constantly throw levers about and adjust to keep moving much like a Steam train I guess  (driver was doing a good impression of one anyhow!  I did chuckle quite a bit as you very casually flicked the cigarette out the *left* window,  how many cars can you do that in LOL)

and this is what set the seed for my obsession many years later (note worthy for being the first car that ever stood out to me, on account of it having 3 instead of 4 wheels!)

and of course I have always wondered what was that Model 70 exactly that I saw,

well I just came across this during my research

and whats so significant about that you might ask?

well its a parking permit for the Invacar Model 70 MHJ22P, a parking permit for the area I saw the above Invacar in back in 2003!

now this parking permit was supposedly found stuck to one of the doors of the car, to say someone peeled it off the windscreen and just stuck it somewhere while applying a new one to the screen after this one had expired

and if we check the keeper history of MHJ22P, it has a tell tail Keeper change on the 9th of December 2002 which tells me this car survived into 2003 or 2004 (only late ministry survivors  had this December 2002 keeper change)

so this fits in with when I saw it, and by this point in time, very few Model 70's where Ministry service by the 31st of March 2003, only about 32 for the WHOLE of England, so I highly doubt there was another Model 70 in the area!

now you may have noticed hang on there are Keeper changes from 2007-2017? indeed, this Model 70 survives !

it is in-fact @st185cs's Model 70!

so you can imagine my reaction when I read "MHJ22P" LOL this is a massive thing for me, not only have more then likely identified which car it was that I saw way back then, but that it survives and that I have unknowingly known about it for a few years now!

and its so surreal to think both of the Model 70's from my childhood likely survive and are even on this forum! (and then @Zelandeth's KPL which reignited the old memories when he uploaded the first start video to his youtube channel which is now with Adam)

I mean what are the chances of that!! the only thing of note is supposedly MHJ22P was found in a barn with a 2nd car and so I have to wonder what was/happened to that 2nd car (but as above I highly doubt there was another Model 70 in the same area as I saw mine in by 2003! but you never know!)

bringing this one back up because it Whoa Pt 2! an actual period Photo of MHJ22P!

according to the photographer taken Near Wapping in 2002! again which is East London Tower Hamlets! (but sadly not exactly which is where I  remember seeing it, now if only the photo was there!, that would been seriously awesome)

but yeah not only is it awesome to see a period photo of a surviving Model 70, of which TPE409S was the only example that had in service shots, but of MHJ22P to the one that more then likely started it all!

of course until/unless I get extremely fortunate and find some 2003 picture of it parked in on Hackney road I cant confirm with 100% certainty that MHJ22P was the one that started it all, but the statistical chances are highly likely it is, as mentioned by March 2003 there where only about 30-40 Model 70's left in Ministry service for the whole of the UK, so the chances of their being another Model 70 in Tower-hamlets/hackney along with MHJ22P is very small, this photo also matches mostly what I remember myself of the car, that it was a 10 inch car with tarnished hub caps, although I remember it looking a bit more careworn/dirty, but we are talking 20 years ago now when I was 3!

its quite fun to study also, its fun to see all thats still the same with MHJ22P for example, the slightly-miss matched/faded bonnet  

 

and of course I have punted the photo forward to @st185cs  

 

its also quite interesting to see what looks like indeed a blue badge in the windscreen, my research has shown that blue-badges came in around 2003 replacing oranage badges so I did wonder if any Invacars managed to squeak a blue badge before being withdrawn and this indeed looks like it! 

although the photo was said to be taken in 2002, so perhaps one of the dates I have is wrong either the photo was taken in 2002, and indeed some fresh sluething while writing this this text, finds this which suggests 1st of April 2000 for blue badges https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dptac-position-on-extending-the-blue-badge-eligibility/dptac-position-on-extending-the-blue-badge-eligibility

so thats pretty interesting to see  (as still quite a narrow window of overlap!)

Me also, I do love to have a bit of associated history with any of my "toys". I often wonder about the user of my Invacar and just who he was, he certainly wasn't afraid to hit the road. What we do know is that his name is/was Brian and his name will live with the car.

I have nicknamed my Argson RDE346  “Flo” after the original owner Florence Day MBE (for her services to the Red Cross).

Got home to a letter from the DVLA who have rejected RDE 346 on the grounds of not enough evidence to link the registration to the chassis number….. looks like it’s an age related number plate then which is a crying shame…..

thats a shame, but at least they sound to be happy to issue an age related plate? which will get it registered at least  

I wonder what the history of Flo is, how many previous owners there are, if you can chase it back up the line, if one of them is able to cough out a buff logbook (or some other historic document that has both the chassis and registration number on it etc) then even if you currently get issued an age related plate you will then be able to claim back RDE346

I’ve written to the Red Cross…… it may have been issued by them and they may have records

i also want to check with the Egham Museum archive team… just in case there are factory records

Sort of! yes and no  

the album cover I have not seen before! shame about the overlay blocking the number plate, best I can tell from what is visible is it looks like an Invacar Model 70

but the interior shot is one I have seen many times, its of the AC Acedes Mk14 that went through anglia classic car auctions in about 2015
