I’ve woken up with a raging hangover and a heart full of regret. Should have just spent the wife’s money!

Sounds like a good night.

That's just the right age and type of car to bring back so many different memories for such a broad range of people.

Who wouldn't want it in their collection!

On another note, although it wasn't exactly his thing, the whole aura of it made me think of Hendry...

+1 for both sentiments. Hendry would have loved this, and it took me right back to when I was four or five and watching my grandparents arrive in grandad's orange (!) shooting brake three door example. They'd done the journey from Havant to the Midlands in six hours, and this was before the A43 was dualled from the M40...

The stuff on the body looks fairly easily remedied as well, I’d be tempted to get a fillet welded onto the front arch if the rest of the wing is good. Should patch in nicely. Nice summer project.

Indeed, I learnt in an F plate 1.6d gl which was quite a nice smooth drive, first car was an A plate 1.3l and Mum had a brand new eclipse (run out special edition that looked like a 5 door XR3 but had the wheezy 1.3hcs engine in the same year (1990)

 what a belter. Grandfather had a Orion in the same colour with those wheels. What a gift.

We had an suffix X reg estate in Blue (I presume it was the same mk), this was sold and towed away by an electric milk float in around '95 to make way for a 309. It did however have the same floor mats which are hard wearing and live on in the family cars today. Although the drivers floor mat has had a section cut out to fit round the clutch foot rest in a mk1 Scénic.

So who's bought it then?

That would be me.

Trailer is ready to rock at the arranged hour

Thing is my 1.6 go was a g plate too so I'd have thought they'd have Sam trim.

Ford were probably gearing up for Mk5 production so either were slowly running out of stock of bits, OR deliberately knocking back the spec so they can introduce the "better equipped" new model on an H plate.

I deffo remember in 1988, when my mum got her LX, the GL had nicer wheeltrims, body toned bumpers and dash, velour trim and electric windows. You had to go to Ghia for electric mirrors.

A couple of people have mentioned the nostalgia this inspires. My grandad had a couple of these when I was little, those interior shots took me right back! The little joystick for the speakers was ace, as was the built-in tape rack.

Excellent! Looks like it went on the trailer easy enough too.

Yep with a bit of room to spare. First time I’ve towed it with anything heavier than a FIAT 500 shell on and it behaved impeccably. Did make me jump a couple of times when i forgot about it and looked no in the rear view window though!
