Anyone got suggestions on insurance brokers/providers who will do this age Jag on classic car policies?

Give peter s taylor a call on 01273 820303. I've got the bmw and the rover insured with them. They do their policies through Allianz and fully comp, 3k miles limit, agreed value is £94.50 each.

 

They said when the policy become due on the XJ8 in october the price will most likely be the same. They'll even do multi-car discount for three or more cars on same classic policy!

Had exactly the same model about three years ago. 3.2 had the mechanical autobox with no sport mode but are way more reliable. Electrical problems with various control modules and a floorpan which seemed to dissolve overnight put paid to its existence. Jag breaker paid good money for it.

 

Can i come over and have a look when you get it back from scotchland.

I've always wanted an XJ - actually XJ8, but can happily settle on a nice working 12 pound XJ6 for now. FiL I think is quite tempted as a fun starter classic car too.

I'll bring the XJ8 over and you can have a drive and do a roadtest comparison

FJ online quote computer says no.

 

Limiting to 3k miles on social+commuting brings up a few reasonable* options. Still hundred quid more than I would hope for (i.e. going on a classic policy).

Lancaster were best when I had my XJ40, I got FC, agreed value, unlimited miles & business cover for about £180 in 2012.

I had all of mine on FJ with a bit off for JEC membership.

No milage limit, agreed value on the 944 and all ok for commuting.

I think we should do a shiter's relay to deliver it in stages to SiC, so all us losers* can have a mere whiff of the high life.

 

I'll happily do the leg which includes somewhere close to Nottingham to somewhere close to Nottingham (say 50-100 mile radius).

 

Subject to dates, I could get it from say Wakefield/Leeds up to Sunderland/Durham A1 easily enough and get work to cover the return trip.

Time off work permitted, Flights booked and got a mate coming along too. Can't wait! Just ten days time.

 

Travelling up by plane and train is actually almost certainly going to be cheaper than the fuel needed to drive it back down.

God do I hate insurance.

 

Hagerty would only cover it if lived on the drive, Lancaster wanted £250 (I think this was actually a standard policy), FJ wouldn't cover it on classic and the others ask loads of questions. Such questions like exact date of getting driving licence for each driver, car value, how much you paid for the car (barfs out at 12 quid), what is your main car, how many NCB that has, etc etc. Which after you do all that, they then say no.

 

I think I'll just go with a standard car policy. Will be so much less hassle and give me the opportunity to use it for driving to work regularly if needed and extending the annual mileage limit. More money but less hassle.
