Monday to Friday I drive down THIS excuse for a motorway.

Most of it makes vary good sense, however (i feel a rant coming on):

3. If I use the left hand lane then I get blocked in.Shame on you! If you get blocked in you don't deserve to be able to overtake. Most road users can vary their speed to fit into appropriate gaps in traffic in each lane when they need to overtake. If the only way you can get into another lane is to stay at a constant speed and force your way in then you confirm everything that is written in this site. Sad but strangely satisfying at the same time.

I have to say, i think a lot of the people stay in the middle lane of the motorway or the outside lane of a duel carraigeway because they do get blocked in.You get these douchebags coming along in their Audis, see someone indicating and think, i am going to get past them and put their foot down blocking the old duffers in, when it would be as easy to slow down a little and let them out.If these old dears thought they were able to just indicate, pull out overtake and then pull back in again, they would (probably) do it, but because of people who have a) no manners and B) no common sense (if someone is indicating it is because they are going to move, so why accelerate towards a car that is indicating its going into your lane...), they think that they will get stuck in the inside lane for ages and because of these fools they probably will, hence why they stay in the middle lane. Its a bit of both really. If someone is indicating i let them out, as i dont want to be in their bit of road when they move. However you do get these people that indicate when they have no intention of moving for 5 minutes like my Mum. But that is a different story. Its Mirror signal manouve, not signal signal signal signal signal manou....hold on...signal signal manouvere.

I love it when you're in the inside lane of say a dual carriageway & there's a slow moving vehicle ahead that you're rapidly gaining on so very shortly you're going to need to indicate, overtake it & move back in, but what happens.....every man & his dog approaching from behind sees the situation & overtakes you leaving you pinned to the inside lane! If there's a lot of these unhelpful people approaching you can be pinned there right upto the point where you have to slam on the anchors before you hit said slow moving vehicle & then be forced to sit there behind this lorry/coach/tractor until every last bastard has gone past you & the way is now free to finally overtake. I always have to ask myself 'why is it always me!??" Do these people not see that I'm hurtling along & will obviously be wanting to overtake this thing myself? No, of course I want to spend the rest of my journey staring at the back of a lorry, who wouldn't ??

That happened to me once in the Mazda. A BMW was behind me as we approached a slower moving vehicle. I indicated to overtake, but Beemer had edged into the fast lane and overtook me (not overly fast either). I let him know my frustration via the noisy button (airhorn) and proceeded to show him what it felt like to be tailgated up to 110.Nowadays, I just get straight into the outside lane and keep up with all the tossers there. I find it safer!

If I get deliberately blocked in while im indicating to get past someone in the slow lane I usually give them thumbs up, it confuses them more than giving them the kenco shuffle. Either that or I just accept it and get on with it. Not everyone can be a brilliant driver like me, ;)

Well thats defensive driving isnt it, not necessarily taught to learners. Over here we have no motorways, just the one stretch of dual carriageway for a few miles which might as well be two parallel single carriageway roads going by the almost total lack of lane discipline evident.People here are generally OVER-courteous - always slowing/stopping and flashing people out of difficult junctions/driveways etc. What pisses me off is that they will do this regardless of how many other people they inconvenience. Worst is when they are the second last vehicle in a line of free-flowing traffic and I’m behind them, they jam on the anchors to let some cunt out and theres nothing behind me for miles. JUST FUCKING KEEP IT MOVING YOU R-TARD

With regards to the "blocking in" issue - if I'm in the middle lane doing say 70 and there's someone in the slow lane right behind a lorry doing 55 and they indicate to get out without much time to spare, I'll probably put my foot down and get past rather than slow right down to let them out. It's not that I'm blocking them in to be a tosser, it's that I don't think I should cause problems for people behind me and put myself at risk of a rear-end shunt so one person can get on their way. Most of the time it seems to be people flooring it right up to the back of a slow moving vehicle and then wanting to suddenly get around it, rather than thinking ahead about how they can slot into the middle lane before they reach the "rolling roadblock" ahead.Basically, if I can predict what people are going to do, I'll happily fit around them and ease off the pedal a tad to leave a gap, but I can't disrupt the flow of traffic because someone has put themselves in a situation where there's a gulf between their speed and that of the lane they want to be in. They'll get out eventually.

Totally agree HirstObservation and anticipation, to be honest, the majority of people who end up blocked in haven't anticipated that they need to move out into a subsiquent lane. I'm not dis-curtious, and will try and give way, when it's possible. The number of times I have ended up nearly rear ending someone after they have decided very late, to overtake or change lanes, either by signalling late, or not signalling at all as they have thought OMGZ TRUK!!!!!!! when they are 5 yds off the back bumper.

What I hate is the mistaken belief that people now have that the cars already on the motorway should give way to those wishing to join. It's because people are curteous and will often make way for on-comers just because it's a nice thing to do. But bluddy 'ell do folk get miffed if you DON'T give way! Now sorry, but if there are cars coming past me, I'm not going to move over and I'm certainly not going to slow down. You're the twat who's accelerated too hard down the slip road so YOU adjust YOUR speed and GIVE WAY like you're supposed to!

On the other hand, people who crawl down sliproads so you get punted out onto the motorway at 40mph should be arrested - very dangerous, if you can't "do" motorways, don't go on them.To be honest, the main reason I'm not a fan of motorways is that you're relying too much on other people's judgement, ability and skill.
