Flat4Alfa - will get to FoD to join FoTU convoy

Posted

Okay all potential FoD vistors on FotU day (Saturday 14th July).
Due to lack of suitable early-morning eatery nearby, here is a suggestion.
Convoy at about 9:00am from FoD to the Silvers' abode in Buckingham.
Can't offer full cafe service but could do tea/coffee/toast/bacon butties.
You can even say hello to Bob the Renault.
Resume convoy at about 9:45 to FotU.
Anyone up for this?
If so, be at the FoD before 9:00 and I will hand out top-secret directions to chez Silvers.

That's a very kind and generous offer slow silver. And another generous thanks to the cylinders for hosting us!

Could SVM Catering sort something?

We catered Shitefest. One of us even provided lodgings. Besides it's only me that's doing FOTU and I want to keep the amount of crap in the car to a minimum.

With genuinely huge regret, I am out.

Another regret here. Can't make fod or fotu due to cock up with me getting my dates wrong and having my son that weekend. Can't bring him with me as boredom will set in for him and I don't want to miss any precious time with him anymore.

Didn't Bub Junior come over to the FoD last time? I seem to recall a young gentleman enjoying having driving lessons and dodging the hay bales. We haven't done the haymaking yet, but there's enough space to teach him how to drive a tractor (his Dad willing), make wigwams etc. What could be better for father/son time than a weekend's camping with chod at the FoD? We get a good 4G signal up there as well! :-)

It's not so much the evening in the FOD,it's the day at the show. He gets bored and will start whining!

Just after getting another e-mail from the organisers:

We are under 2 weeks away from the big day, I hope your preparations are going well!

Attached to this email is your pass if you can print it off and pass it in your front screen when you get to Stowe this will help with quick access to the south Lawn so we can get you all parked up!

We ask that you arrive at Stowe from 10am onwards, there will be bacon rolls available to the concours entries until 11, you will get a voucher when you sign on so make sure you do this as soon as you arrive and judging will start from 11.30 onwards.

Our registration desk will be found to the left of the main stairs and we will have people around to help where needed. Please remember to bring your entry pass to the house as well.

You will also receive your Unexceptional goodie bag once signed on.

The post code for Stowe School is MK18 5EH, other post codes might take you to the national trust car park.

Award giving will be around 2.30 with the show closing at 3.

Also don’t forget there are special awards for best dressed and Best picnic.

If they're wrapping up at 3pm, I might be able to drop into the Field Of Dreams.....

Why not...

... take him to the FotU show in the morning and spend a couple of hours there, walking round and admiring all the unexceptional cars. Then...

... leave Stowe and make your way along rural roads to Turweston Airfield, which is a tad under 6 miles away, for lunch at the Flight Deck café, overlooking the airfield. There is a rally school there as well and quite often there are people sprinting cars up and down the runway between aircraft (yes, really, it's one of the services the airfield offers!). Then...

... cruise another 7 miles or so to Silverstone circuit to show him the home of British F1 and watch the Saturday race meeting, which is the 20th anniversary Formula Student racing series. Advance tickets for adults are £15 for the Saturday and children under 15 get in free.

http://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/formula-student/

Then... meander the 11 miles back along rural roads again to the FoD...

What's not to like? :-)

You know what,I don't have to stay at the show all day, gives the trike a good run and a chance to try out the trailer tent. I'll speak to him tomorrow.

I like the idea of lunch at an airfield after FOTU before heading back to the FoD / home - I've not decided on my plans for Saturday evening / Sunday.

Does anyone know whether there will be autojumble stalls at this event?

There certainly wasn't at 2016's event at Whittlebury - and I'd be very very surprised if there is this time around.  It's quite...err... stuffy.

Downloaded my ticket and printed off

The excitement is mounting

Noticed that all tickets are gone now, so I have that 'free passenger' space available in my car if it helps someone out.  Happy to collect Autoshiters from Bletchley station as I'll be passing

Also noticed that Stowe House don't list the event !  We must be too down-market.

And no, the only stall will be the Pimms one I reckon.   But that doesn't stop us filling our car boots with tat to sell / give away.

It's just a gathering of cars, not a full-on event. There will be a few food traders.

Had an email today from the "car festival booking" who help run this event.

Good news if you just want to perv.

"On Saturday 14th July 2018 Hagerty’s Festival of the Unexceptional returns to Stowe House for it’s 5th Anniversary. Although all free tickets have now sold out you can still attend the event by paying the £6.50 entrance fee to Stowe House."

Yes, I saw that. Odd that they hadn't mentioned that option on the Facebook page. Still a cheap car show compared to many.

Turns out this is WRONG INFORMATION! If you haven't got a ticket, you can't enter the show. This is starting to get a bit frustrating now...

EDIT - further confirmed that if you pay £12 for house AND grounds, you should be able to see the show. The email BI took the info from is sent by a company not related to Hagerty who clearly hadn't actually asked anyone what the deal is.

Sounds shambolic.

Turweston Airfield sounds nice. Perhaps I'll go there after my parts have been collected.

It does, and it does.

I appreciate these guys are not festival organisers - but my greatest fear is this year ends up being so poorly organised that they don’t bother in future.

I’m sure they are already thinking about next year. I’d encourage them to simplify things for their own sanity more than anything or anyone else.

If anyone wants to convoy from the south, taking the M1 or A5 north bound...?

For me it will be, I hope:
