Belongs to a chap who has two identical ones. Never paid them much attention before but I liked them

As my profile pic will attest, I quite like a saffron Volvo!

Was quite excited about this little beauty that I retrieved from Shrewsbury.

Fancied another before prices rose. I planned to get this one up to a good rust free standard and have a useful classic van.

Sadly the dream went sour...post-19511-0-61103500-1539031200_thumb.jpg

Faithful old Shogun on the trailer, rather than pulling it. (Don't want customers turning up at the yard in the middle of the night again, so I've moved it to a neutral location.

X Trail probably a bit overloaded though....

Not my trailer but thought I would include this picture for posterity.

Personally I would have put the Shogun on the truck rather than the trailer but whatever, Ukrainian driver knows bestpost-19511-0-32832200-1535637842_thumb.jpgpost-19511-0-05023900-1535637864_thumb.jpg

Oo! Nice to see your 16 out and about. Is it coming home for some fettling?

Posted

Yes, going to try and get it running properly then next spring I shall turf the Holeseley out of its nest and put the Renault in there to tidy the body up. I can do work down the yard in theory, but in reality it won't get done if it isn't in my garage at home!

Took my latest acquisition over the bridge. I do like a bit of trailer trash. Can't wait to see her with her top off

Glad I don't have a trailer. I'd be picking up shite from all over the place.

Having a trailer and lots of storage space is the bain of my life. Think how much spare time I would have otherwise...

He made the mistake of offering it to me when I was sober,

So he's still got it.  I nearly said yes which would have caused all kinds of trouble.

Posted

Thats good to know. :)

I don't particularly like them but my FiL really loves them. Except he can't afford one, nor has the confidence in restoration. I'd get it, do it up and give it to him. However I need to finish a certain 1100 project before I can do that.

Posted

Whatever happened to your VP? Did you sell it in the end?

Still got it. Collected it in a fit of enthusiasm but then realised it will never get done. It cost me about £100 to get it so if anyone here wants it for that then they are more than welcome

If I remember correctly it was engine trouble it had? Bodywise it was minimal/no rot?

I definitely would be interested but unfortunately there is definitely no room in the inn until early next year at the earliest. Depends how bad the winter is this year varies how quickly I can get the 1100 done!

Posted

Body solid. Paintwork rough. Good engine, knackered autobox.

Early next year you say? That's not too far away. I'll get it out ready for the first week of January.

Sounds a hell lot less than work than my 1100! I wish that just needed the engine+auto box out, repairing and put back in.

I'm hoping to have the bulk of the 1100 done in January, however others have advised that is a bit optimistic. Which I'm starting to believe it maybe. But then once I've got the metal work done, it becomes a lot less weather dependent.

This year is not a good one for towcars...

Coming towards a sharp bend I dropped the X Trail into third gear. It was like stamping on the brakes! Engine locked up! Managed to coast into a car parking area. Obviously there was no phone signal so had to walk around ten* miles to get signal to call for help.

Went back the next day with my new towcar(which wasn't meant to be my new towcar)post-19511-0-48145200-1542046313_thumb.jpg

On the trailer backwards as well, rather than towing it. Oh the humiliation!

Good job the Nissan broke down while I was driving on private* roads as I have not yet managed to mot the Xantia...

Nice trailer rust protection

post-19511-0-41406400-1542046506_thumb.jpg

Also, note the rear trailer light full of soil and grass... Going up a steep bank on the way home (Orton Bank) the Xantia decided it didn't want to pull its load up there and started wheel spinning. Then rolling backwards... Maybe the trailer brakes need adjustment. It seemed safest to steer it into the bank. I walked to a nearby farmer I know and he got his tractor out which pulled it out easily.

The French Quarter is now even more over populated, partly due to its new Franco-Nippon alliancepost-19511-0-10007200-1542046909_thumb.jpg

Oh dear. I can't believe you towed that up Oreton bank, you mentalist! You should have attempted Farlow bank that would have been a lot more fun*.

Wanted: knowledge about the Silver K11 in your yard. I also have one here parked up.

Do you have any idea on what caused it?

A colleague here had one of those last year. Timing chain stretched and it was getting harder and harder to start.

I think those engines were a bit of a lemon.

Knowledge? You will regret asking that Mo! Yes I have seen your Micra. I parked between it and a horrid pink Corsa a couple of weeks ago!

So this Micra was bought brand new by a friend of mine's Grandmother. When the car was around 8 years old it was passed down to his sister who is now my other half. She ran it on L plates for ages, often doing 200 miles a day in it while her father slept in the passenger seat as they used to work together. She never did drive it alone but did thousands of miles in it!

The next stage of its life was with her sister who ran it for a few years. (With a full license this time).

After a few years it failed its mot and I bought it off her. I then did a few minor jobs on it and sold it to a friends sister who was going to learn to drive in it with her brother. He then started using it himself and when his van broke, the poor Micra was put into service as a decorators van.

After two years of him driving it but not technically owning it, a bad mot fail has seen it back in my ownership. Despite it being regularly waxoyled in its life, the rot on it is now near terminal in the inner rear wheel arches.

I'm going to have a good look at it and hopefully get it through another mot. I think I'll just keep it as a spare car

I've only had it six months and 12,000 miles. It's always been a bit rattly in the mornings. I always put it down to diesel knock. It went away when it was warm. On the day it seized I thought I heard it knocking longer than it normally does but I always have music on so didn't pay it any attention. No warning lights came on until the moment it seized!

An expensive six months motoring!

Ha!

Xantias are brilliant towcars but it was a damp day, tyres not great and quite a load on! I didnt think about it as I usually have 4x4s, it wasn't til I started to go up the hill i thought uh-oh!
