My base is on the original clutch. That's why I didn't buy this one....I'm saving up....!

(finding someone who actually wants to do it might be fun....)

If Boggy doesn't swoop in and pick it up for loose change this morning - I'm going to have a look at this later on today with a view to

A) Buying it for another member who has asked me to play go-between

2) Buying it for a £7 raffle and donating all profits to charity

D) Absolutely not buying it for myself, keeping it at work, registering it at my parent's house and denying all knowledge of its existence

Buy it and just convince Mrs B that it is the next big thing citing mk1 Escorts as an example and warn her might take a little while but it is only 300 quid........cheaper than a new boiler.

We've all known you need this car since the first post on the subject...........

Somebody would do it, better off with a place that regularly does clutches. Probably looking thick end of £4-500. A workmates clutch went recently, he'd decided to go to Mr Clutch, out of interest I'd asked on here but opinion was polarized.

I had a clutch put in one years ago, got car back and there was air getting in system, bled it about 3 times still doing it, poked the rubber gaiter out from the feed for the CSC, the union hadn't been tightened on the feed for it. Just about managed to get a crows foot wrench onto it, nipped it up then bled it. Could have been an absolute disaster.

This must surely be in AS custody by now?

I would have thought for 500 quid you’d get the clutch done at Ford. They 'only' charged me £1000 for a clutch in my ST220 and that was with a dual mass flywheel and CSC too. Some years ago now but the labour was surprisingly reasonable.

Shame you weren't closer to stoke theres a fantastic mechanic who works from a little workshop known as Mr Mondeo he would probably do it in his sleep, he did my dad's mk3 clutch for very little monies

I'll have to arrange a holiday in the Peak District or something!

Here are the pics.  They're awful.  My phone is so smashed I had to take them using the burst function and I couldn't see fuck all!

It does look a reasonable old tub

The colour mismatch is because the previous owner started T-cutting and got bored.  I know that feeling.  I also have the machine now.

I have actually driven a base saloon!  I forgot this.  When working in Norn Iron we had about an hour to catch a ferry and I was given the keys by my very, very hungover friend.  I enjoyed it and, from memory, managed to get it gloriously sideways in an icy roundabout outside Belfast.

Red5 has first shout on it.  I would really like it but I just can't justify it alone.

The paint seems to have held up really well! I can almost hear something rusting somewhere in those pics. What a rarity! Have those rubbing strips been fitted by a dealer keen to upspec it and move it on (it hung around a while by the sounds of it) or is that standard for its spec?

Shame about the door, but 300 quid..

Is it actually 2 different colours on the passenger side?

Fantastic work, sir!

My understanding is that '93 build base models came with black-topped bumpers and black side rubbing strips (as above). '94 build base models came with fully colour coded bumpers and no side rubbing strips (as below). Base model after '94 was sold as the Aspen, and was pretty much an LX with a less few features.

So as this one appears to be a '93 build, but not registered until mid-'94, it's right for its build year.

Alles klar? Gut!

I've just noticed those rear door quarter light grilles- mk1 only? I've never clocked them before, in my mind that's usually where they lobbed the Ghia badges.

Feeling a bit reflective here as these are the sort of questions Hendry would usually answer.

They became solid (no longer ventilated) on the Mk2, including a Ghia badge where appropriate. It is an approved* Mk1 upgrade** if you choose...

I note drivers door slightly out of line, just like on mine...

New owner will need FINIS code 7304997 and 7304999 to replace the yellowed headlights

It looks like the rubber weatherstrips along the windows have been replaced. Excellent if so, as £90 for a set of four.

That dent on the door would knock out.

Did you get chance to have a look under the bonnet or underneath?

Someone needs to buy this. I'm tempted myself but I'm a million miles away with nowhere to park it! I do, however, have a MK4 Mondeo Base (designated as an 'Edge' but with no badging as such) on an 09 plate, with keep fit windows in the back and steel wheels. Its a minter tbh and, although its done 125,000 you wouldn't know it. Oh yeah...................Its red as well!

Well no picture as I was driving but I want past a red mk1 Mondeo K reg with black top bumpers today in sunny Wakefield.

From the 2 seconds I saw it it looked exactly the same as this one so there are some about.

There's on in Eckington, rotten as fuck they've had it years, just keep having the fucker welded back together every MOT. I did suggest when I saw it last I'd be interested if it blew out on the next test for parts.

See that's the other thing parts will become scarce so probably worth getting hold of a breaker now while they'd worth fuck all.

I think the point here is that it's a Base. LX's and, I think Glx's of this era also had the black top bumpers. The base spec was mega rare, even back then.

Yay utter shit dash cam pic!!

No. It's not bought yet.  I'm a bit frustrated to say the least.

The guy simply won't let anyone drive it in the weather.  It's slippery here, I understand that, but offering to "take me out in it" is not sufficient.  I've sent him a message saying "I appreciate it's a cheap car, but it's no longer a cheap car when it's had £500 worth of clutch put in.  Unless I can satisfy myself that there's life left in it, we can't go forward".  It'll be 4 degrees later and 8 tomorrow, so there shouldn't be any issue.

I'm 50% convinced he's hiding something, 50% hoping he's just a nervous type.

Either way, no drivey - no buyey.  Especially as I don't need it, and the guy who wanted it from here has now gone suspiciously quiet.
