I also got details of its economy at 120(ISH)KPH.

 

51.59L for 563.3km

 

30.84mpg, or 9.16L/100km

 

Additionally, as I got out the car to fuel it up, an Alfa 159 hammered to a halt directly behind me.

 

It turned out to be Mrcitroen of this parish, who had spied me as I entered the shopping park:)

This has to be one of the more interesting vehicles on AS at the moment, I've been following the thread with increasing interest. Seems like a massively unappreciated model from Citroen's back catalogue. Now I want to import one from France. How's getting spares for these?

With a combination of Mrcitroen's assistance on here, plus some Google Fu, it looks a bit better than CX parts.

 

But nowhere near the support I'm used to with old BMWs.

 

Seems to be a relatively well supplied specialist/enthusiast source of spares.

 

I'll report back once I've started ordering / fitting bits.

With a combination of Mrcitroen's assistance on here, plus some Google Fu, it looks a bit better than CX parts.

But nowhere near the support I'm used to with old BMWs.

Seems to be a relatively well supplied specialist/enthusiast source of spares.

I'll report back once I've started ordering / fitting bits.

I think some trim parts can be nigh on impossible to get. Always managed to get any mechanical parts OK either from eBay, the German GS place or Chevronics.

That's sort of happening with some of the G suppliers too. In fairness to Rob Moss who runs Chevronics, he says he ploughs his profits from G parts sales back into re manufacture of NFP parts. Prices are salty, but no where as near as bad as CX Basis.

The risk that CX-Basis runs is that their prices end up killing the industry they set themselves up to supply, but as long as there are sufficiently wealthy customers in NL and D, they don't care.

It's a fucking expensive business remanufacturing things. Add on top making a living and it's a miracle anyone bothers doing it.

Yep...I remember there was some looking into remanufacturing some of the unobtainable RHD steering system bits for Ladas back around 2003, when the cars were still relatively plentiful compared to these days. It was a job that needed a significant five digit sum of money up front to make it even close to realistic. ...credit to Lada though, they did say they were quite happy to make some for us...but we needed to order 10,000 or more units with payment up front of I remember right!

 

The thing which in years to come that I think has potential to make things like this more viable is metallic 3D printing. The tech is coming I believe...and I look forward to the year where the dreaded "no longer available" ...or NFP to us Citroen owners...is no longer a major problem so long as you can find a decent engineering drawing of the bit...

It did it last time I started it (Friday) but eventually caught and ran normally.

 

It has a half tank of fuel, battery has plenty life.

 

Initial thoughts are

A spark issue

Possibly spark plugs sooted up?

Look at plugs first. Sounds like cheapest solution in terms of work before getting involved in looking at fuel runs.

 

I recently had something similar, but Frogchod told me to have a look at the fuel pump relay. I wiggled the relay a bit and everything went back to normal...!

 

Now have to sort slipping auto gearbox.

That seems to have been my experience CX-wise as well. Starting a Citroën is like making love to a beautiful woman; you have to get her in the mood before asking permission to ease your way in......

I don’t think I’ve ever read a comparison between love-making and trying to fire up a beige Citroen GSA.

 

At least it’s repaired itself though. Result.

How long since it had last run?

Had silly issues like that with mine when I first got it. One if the starting / running issues was the amount of silt in the carb float bowl. Caused idle jet to block so car would not start or run cleanly when it did start. This was intermittent though.

 

Condenser failed too and the cassette points in the SEV Marchal dizzys are evil. (I'm all electronic noo)

 

Keep an eye on it and see how it goes.
