AS Communal MK4&5 Mondeo Thread

Mines a Zetec and it's got lumbar support,drivers seat only though.

Maybe find the seats from a higher spec model and try those?

Mk4 front seats can start to collapse and "self recline" in as little as 80,000 miles.

So has mine, but twiddling the knob does nowt. 

Might look into a seat upgrade

Looks good. I wouldn’t whittle about the gearbox, if it’s good then it’s good. Probably worth checking if the belt has been done 125k or 10 years. 

Enjoy changing the fuel filter and the oil filter on those Euro 4 engines...

I think I'm going to have to get the ForeSkin ForScan software.

I have the EML light on, no codes on my scanner. 

A bit of smoke and a smoky smell, and occasional traction light, though I believe this can be caused by tyres not quite being up to pressure?

Anyway I also believe the above symptoms can be caused by injector woes. Including traction light for some reason...?

Probably. Her back is quite particular about car seats. MGR ok. Honda ok. Fords a big no. BMWs a big no. Mercs ok. VAGs ok. Vauxhalls are model dependent. She suffers from crumbling vertebrae.

Sadly I've got terrible back pain today. Hoping its a coincidence.

Fan control module turned up today, so will get that put in tomorrow, then MOT Monday.

So the EMIL light is now telling me it needs an oil service. Its only just had one. 

I've just dipped the oil, two or three weeks post oil service and the level is really really high. 

This, I understand, means the oil is diluted with diesel. 

Is the Dpf still trying to regenerate? Didn't this happen to you @wuvvum?

That all sounds painful! I wish you both comfy and supportive seats.

It would suggest so. A dodgy MAF on those can interfere with DPF regeneration, clean that out and drop a bit of oil. Definitely run it through Forscan though.

Fitted new fan control module.

Fan works and does not keep spinning, when engine is off.

But, fan does move. See vid.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an issue possibly with the shutters for the rad that sit behind the bumper.

It did - when I first got the car it was trying to regen constantly, I reset it with Forscan and it was fine for a while but I had to do it again after the car had been stood during lockdown - I assumed it was because the battery had gone flat but it may be to do with mileage (I'm assuming you're putting a lot more miles on the car than I ever did...).  Forscan is your friend - you can select Reset DPF Parameters (or something along those lines) and it stops the regen.  You can also do a forced regen but I never tried that as the DPF was fairly new - that may be what it needs though.

When you order the ELM327 cable, make sure to get a switchable one - that will allow you to monitor / amend a lot more parameters on the car.  You can get them for under 20 quid on eBay and Forscan is free to download, and relatively easy to install as these things go.

I only have Linux, fingers crossed there's a Linux version!

I'm not endowed with patience when it comes to downloading and using new software, are there any how-to videos you recommend for using it?

Looks like you have to install an emulator to run it on Linux, but it is possible.  Or do what I did, buy a cheap Windows notebook to use solely for diagnostics - you don't need anything fancy, it's not resource-hungry software.

I didn't actually watch any instruction videos, I just played around with the software and found things fairly easily.  It's more intuitive to use than a lot of diagnostic software I've seen, and there's an active forum where you will probably find the answer to any issues you may encounter.

Next no9by question, forscan.org warns that there are many elm327 interface clones that don't work. 

Which one did you buy?

Also, I notice Forscan do an Android version, maybe I'll try that first.

And the cheapo mk4 passed with 3 advisories, only one of which really matters

Get that perished pipe replaced asap.

Otherwise it won't regen and you'll run into dpf trouble.

Failed regen. I’m assuming yours is the Euro 4? If so I’d suspect possibly the MAF, clean that out. You can do a forced regen through Forscan but I wouldn’t recommend it unless it’s absolutely necessary. Your neighbours won’t be overjoyed either with 20 minutes of it revving it’s twat off on the drive. Reset the parameters as above then give it a good hammering down the motorway. Be sure to drain the excess oil off otherwise it could run away if it gets excessive.

I'm waiting for the ForeSkin adapter to arrive, then I have to figure out how to run the software from my laptop or acquire a Windows laptop then I can do all that. 

I've just now drained and refilled the oil so it's half way up the dipstick and drowned the MAF in gin contact cleaner so at least she can drive without it blowing up. 

I have been asking her what she would do in the event of a run away. Apparently I've been wasting my time so I showed her the film of the Freelander in Ireland running away, maybe she'll remember now. 

Hand and foot brake on full,  5th gear, dump clutch.

If that fails walk away and call brakedown.

Mine started to do frequent regens,it was the EGR valve slightly jammed open,

So I blanked it off,quite easy to do,and doesn't light up the EML.

So far so good.

I guess I just need the codes off Forscan to know what's playing up, paleobrain here needs to work out how to install Forscan first.
