JohnDeere Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Some hot XM action in this slightly odd film-within-a-film for the launch. The gallic barge is compared with lots of other mid-80s executive chod, and is apparently better than all of them. Beautiful irony of a huge red "STOP" sign in the final sequence. fantasio 1
chaseracer Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Incontrovertible proof that windscreen wiper development peaked in 1960 and has been in slow decline ever since... Sudsprint and mercrocker 2
mouseflakes Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I enjoyed this. Nice mix of shite. Goes on a bit.I was watching it on mute and was shocked when the guy vanished a 9:55. So I un-muted and discovered that, "Fortunately, Ken was only bruised".I might watch it with sound all the way through. At the weekend. It does go on a bit. EDIT: Don't be put off by the Escort shown here - they don't feature heavily. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn822uhS9V8 Banger Kenny, pompei and mercrocker 3
Vin Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I've recently been dipping in and out of the excellent archive of programmes from BBC4 on Iplayer... I present the interesting character that was Ian Nairn. He did a number of series for the BBC and the three episodes of 'Nairn across Britain' from 1972 are on Iplayer. And Youtube. Lots of Autoshite and Architecturshite and a fascinating man to boot. First episode is introduced by the excellent Jonathan Meades from round about 1990... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL95amUnQuc Episode 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1BZK2CllUY chaseracer and strangeangel 2

AlabamaShrimp Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I saw the trans pennine canal one a bit ago. Took me ages as I kept pausing it and going on to Google maps. The end bit was amazing in Leeds. What was once a big open canal basin is now full of poncy flats and restaurants
chaseracer Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Nairn's books are worth a read too. He also wrote the Pevsner guide to Surrey.

Matt Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Can we just take a moment to bask in how gloriously delicious Volvo S80 V8's sound with a custom exhaust. It's such a vanilla looking modern luxury car, it has no right to sound like it does. Banger Kenny, Laseraligningfoofooflanges and LessThanEqual 3

Brutal but features Marina(in the opening scene) Maxi, Mk 1 Escort, And 1100 in final scene. You'll never open the door on an a 1100 quite the same way again. Rusty_Rocket 1

michael t Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I love videos like this, I know it's from 2004 ( 12 years ago... Really??) so there's a lot of modern stuff in it but for me it marks an interesting point in UK car history where the older cars such as Escorts, Cavaliers etc were mingling with newer more modern designs such as Mk3 Mondeo's and curvier fresher Astra's etc. This period probably lasted about 7 or 8 years when every second or third car you would see would be an older design from the late 80s or early 90s. I was only 9 when this video was made and so I remember all the older stuff on the roads which I very much miss seeing now. I wish I could go back with a camera and photograph what we consider to be Shite now. warren t claim and Banger Kenny 2
