danthecapriman Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 I wonder what it costs to ship something back here from Oz!? It’d be a good place to pick up a rust free, large engined, auto CF with minimal rust. Only issue being the shipping costs but Huggy’s worth a few quid so if you sold him that might cover it... eddyramrod, MorrisItalSLX and yellowperil 3
MorrisItalSLX Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 Shipping from Australia probably could be achieved for under £1000. At the moment the only automatics I have found for sale have been cab chassis, but they are out there. danthecapriman 1
MorrisItalSLX Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 BOOM Holden 6, automatic and covered in bits of old Valiant and Holden. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/1197698336?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios&utm_medium=social&utm_source=sms Leyland P76 V8, automatic and covered in bits of old fibreglass and wob http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/1201298672?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios&utm_medium=social&utm_source=sms Uncle Jimmy, eddyramrod, oldcars and 1 other 4
MorrisItalSLX Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 On a slightly more serious note: Holden 202 6 Cylinder, trimatic auto box. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/1200256984?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios&utm_medium=social&utm_source=sms jumpingjehovahs, Sir Snipes, oldcars and 4 others 7
eddyramrod Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 Hmm... I rather like that last one. 5000 Australian dollars converts to £2800, so even with shipping, the price of Huggy would cover it. Hmmmm. MorrisItalSLX, chaseracer and danthecapriman 3

I would think nearer £2.5k maybe less if you get lucky with RORO, plus I would want to give anything a really good look over and poke before purchase, in states with no annual roadworthy people are keen in structural filler. Edit if you can manage shipping for 1k keep an eye out for a charger or V8 XA to XD wagon please. eddyramrod and danthecapriman 2
Cavcraft Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 This has just shown up on my Facebook...... talk about poor timing! You'll probably get that really cheap if VOSA pull him up., he'll need the money for the absolute arse reaming he'll get if that goes over the scales. oldcars, cobblers, dome and 4 others 7
eddyramrod Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 The grey one from Facebook is sold, apparently, but at least it means they do still exist! If I was going to import one, from Australia or anywhere else, it would need to be within reach of a trusted Shiter who could give it a good look-over for me, and possibly even accommodate it until the shippers picked it up. I've got more sense than to go into an international purchase of this magnitude, blind (I hope!). danthecapriman and MorrisItalSLX 2

It would also need to be roadworthy and registered, which is also something that you would desire as you aren’t in the market for a project. eddyramrod 1
eddyramrod Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 Of course all these grand plans depend on selling Huggy at a suitable price, and on me getting my licence back at all! MorrisItalSLX 1

I've done vic, SA & WA which were all easy with only vic requiring a RWC.Can you get the equivalent of the Victorian unregistered vehicle permit to drive a car from the sellers place to yours and onwards to a RWC or repair place? Those wagons wow I don't ever remember seeing any that clean when they were common place! MorrisItalSLX 1

Sorry for the thread hijack Eddy. Just remember, it’s all in pursuit of your dream CF! eddyramrod 1
eddyramrod Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 No worries, it's all potentially useful! MorrisItalSLX 1
DodgeRover Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Both those falcons would benefit from the addition of GS bits though
lanciamatt Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 On my last training course at Luton for vauxhall there was an electric cf there, didn't even know they did one eddyramrod and DodgeRover 2
eddyramrod Posted November 20, 2018 Author Posted November 20, 2018 Oh yes, electric CFs were a thing in the 70s. Not for me though, ideally I want the 2.3 petrol.

DodgeRover Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 See the Aussies had the large petrol van idea sorted, no poxy 2l 4 cylinder things, the transits over here desperately need the old straight 6 crossflow lump as an option. The Holden 6 was a special order option. MorrisItalSLX 1

eddyramrod Posted November 27, 2018 Author Posted November 27, 2018 Interesting times....Two CFs have appeared in the ebay thread in the last few days: a matt-black camper in that there London and a white plain van in Southport. At the same (realistic) price! Both are the later front with the 2.3 engine. I think the white one looks a more honest vehicle. It's the one I would choose, of the two. Just a shame about the timing! I can't afford either of them, and if I could, I couldn't drive it. Bummer.

eddyramrod Posted November 27, 2018 Author Posted November 27, 2018 Yes, that's the Southport van. I like that one quite a bit.
danthecapriman Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Cor, that white one is nice. In a battered old van kind of way. Which is good! The price doesn’t look bad at all either. eddyramrod and LightBulbFun 2
eddyramrod Posted November 27, 2018 Author Posted November 27, 2018 It is, isn't it? Apart from having the late front end, it's just the sort of thing I was looking for. Never mind. There'll be another. danthecapriman 1
Matty Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Only thing that bothers me is "bought to use a a daily driver but my plans have changed". I read that as "not solid/reliable enough to use"
Matty Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Other than that GIB!! My dad had a few of these when I was little and at times there's nowt I'd sooner have

That says something! Matty and Uncle Jimmy 2
Mally Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 My dad had one new, I often drove itI also bought my own caravanette a few years back. It left more oil on the drive than the sump holds.I must be almost as daft as you eddy. But I'd never lust after another eddyramrod 1
