I iz confused ^^

So they spend in the region of £500 for new belts but then decide to more or less chuck it away when it fails an MOT?

For £250 you cannot go wrong, but im interested to know what it failed on, something quite expensive I would imagine.

Or the owners are just a little mad and see an MOT failure as a 'Oh no its too dangerous to drive ever again'

The current owner didn't do the belts the previous owner did so she says. The details aren't very clear at the moment supposedly wants a rear exhaust due to failing on emissions, some brake pipes and number plate lights. Nothing drastic but we will see when I go to look at it this time tomorrow. Probably get there and they will say the price was a mistake and its 2.5k or something.

Valve stem seals. Currently being done. Ho hummm!

But, I told them about a Bentley service bulletin and they say there are 24 stem seals... er, really?

Ah, you've got the rare 3-valve per cylinder CVCC-head designed to meet lean-burn requirements. Nice. Due to the stratified induction and ability to run super-lean mixtures at cruise, when restored your Bentley will do at least 36mpg.

Trudging back in the rain following a range rover fail to proceed. Not quite enough guts in the battery to get it to catch. Further investigations await. It's not as if I've had it sat about doing bugger all lately either....

The range rover actually functioning yesterday

They seem to suffer from this terribly and I've never gotten to the bottom of it. Let me know of any ideas on how to proceed, I've tried everything except relays

It shows how old cars work their charm on you- leave me stranded, get me drenched and I still don't have a bad thing to say about it!

An odd walk back- an RTA happened as I was walking on the pavement by a busy road- an old lady just ploughed into the back of the car in front. Didnt seem to notice the traffic had stopped. airbags deployed, as I bent the door open ( the shell was a bit bent) the cabin was full of smoke, people seem not too badly injured thankfully, stayed there untill the ambulance arrived etc.

Dark, miserable sort of day here at least, if it's the same where you are? No-one using lights correctly, saw one black Civic with a lone sidelight on the A5199 nearly have a Vectra pull out across them - and I'd be hard pressed to say it was the Vectra's fault if they had, damn car was near invisible. As long as no-one was badly hurt, and it's always good to have the time to help people out in these situations.

Nasty.

I drove to town and back in the Nippa today. It really is quite dreadful, but perhaps that's cruel given I've been wafting around in an XM for a couple of weeks. Wonder how the Dyane will feel...

In other news, finally got around to doing another video. Not bad (I hope!) considering my mate just chucked the keys at me one day, so no prep.

The downside to doing this video is that I then watched my Discovery one. I want another one now. SO BLUE!

I pretty much always keep my lights on, mostly sidelights but headlights in winter. Am I weird? Also I fix them as soon as a bulb's gone but I don't think the general population are as fussy.

Not weird at all. The only car I'm not fanatical about leaving lights on is the SLK, but the moment it's not bright sunshine, they're on. If I have a grey car, lights are always on.

If UK dealers remembered to set the cars to UK DRLs they'd be useful - as UK spec should illuminate rear lights too. I'm a huge fan of DRLs, think better retrofit kits should be made to use CANBus/VANBus/whatever to allow the lights to be active in the same way as USA cars - lights are off when engine is running, but when in gear/handbrake off, they come on. The moment I find a set I'm comfortable installing on the SLK that I can create a logic gate relay for, it'll have some - but don't want the uber-nasty cheap ones people seem to fit when they want an alternative (or extra) for having foglights on.

I just got out bid on an Audi A2 for MrsC. Pity as it looked like a good one and she was keen on it I just didn't want to go over 1400 quid.

If anyone see's one for sale HOLLER BACK. This one was a 1.6 FSi Sport but I'd prefer a 1.4 SE.

The battery on Mrs alf's Aldi expired today........so I thought I'd dig out the invoice cos it wasn't five minutes since I put it on. Dug through the file and found it.........dated 2009.

Still feel twisted though as I don't reckon 6 years is much of a life for a good battery....bring back those Sampson guaranteed as long as you keep the car jobs.

The fun and games with the MGF continue.

I read up on how to perform Emergency Key Access; the plip battery died and getting the immobiliser off was a nightmare.

Did EKA several times and moved the battery around in the plip - it now works again, but for how long? I don't trust the electrics in that car as far as I can throw them.

I also need to do something about the headlights - dire doesn't cover it. A contact of mine reckons he's got some NOS Trophy items on the shelf so I'm going to see how much he wants for them next month. I think that's the best solution given that HID \ Xenon kits appear to fall into the 'probably illegal' category.

I was referring to 320's comment on getting a dirty diesel. That one is perfect other than being 400 miles away.

Just sell it and buy a BMW Z3 instead. The MG crowd would love that.

What's up with the ones on yours? I'm not likely to be using mine for a while.

A yellow thing I want has become available.

Might be selling a Honda Accord Coupé sooner than later With fixed brakes and some other tweaks, of course.

The substrate's guffed.

Mine are shiny and clear. Might be quite recent. I'll have a poke on Wednesday, the rust means it won't be going anywhere for a long time.

there is a MGF in a scrappy near me that I've been raiding for bits, it's got a pair of recently new (MGR spares hologrammed) headlights in. Shall I ask how much?
