Moog , pop the down pipe off and feel for play , a little side to side is ok but any in and out is a no no . Does it smoke the morning after a hot run ?

I know the owner of that A110 quite well, it's a ten foot car but stunning never the less. He also has an A310 the bastard.

Replaced the worn out transmission mount. Ordered it on Friday from Amazon and it was delivered to the door around lunchtime on Sunday, you gotta love that Prime membership.

Out with the old, yep think that's worn out...

...and in with the new. It is in there straight, it's just my very poor David Bailey skillz that let me down.

Pulled inlet pipe off (well bit more of a faff than that)

No movement any direction.

Looks in good condition post-3994-143801258146_thumb.jpg

I will have to pay attention about hot starts. Checked it again just now and no smoke. Looks like a case of TADTS.

Will send the turbo back (when it arrives) and get a refund.

Twosmoke is abs Tech2 only?

Any decent diagnostic kit should read it . Not snap on cos they don't do Saab .

I nipped round my mates this afternoon to look at a Orion he's just been given, the jammy sod.

He knocked about the car earlier in the year and a few days ago the owner contacted him to say it failed the mot and they'd been quoted £1500 to get it though (!!!) so did he want it for free to save it getting scrapped?. They dropped it off yesterday. They have owned it from new and it's done 118k but mechanically it's excellent having had full dealer serving all it's life but both front and rear screen rubbers had been botched up as they leak as does the sunroof which has also been sealed and the rear arch is really grotty and needs replacing, that's what it failed on.

I got asked if i wanted it but I've got enough on with this Sierra to be getting on with.

He also took me for a ride in his other Orion, he's just finished rebuilding the engine, I can't remember the full in's and out's but It's got a Galaxy 2.3 i4 lump with a RS2000 cam, a Ford Ka gearbox and all sorts of stuff what he's none himself, it's recorded 208bhp on the rolling road, the power is immense, it really throws you back into the seat and sounds like a swarm of angry hornets when on song, great fun!

While twosmoke is talking Saab turbos..... I had a customer have one go on his 100k miles 07 plate vector and we put a new one on,checked the supply/return,flushed the oil,new oil n filter and off it went.

200 miles later, turbo failure, I took the turbo off and sent it back and turbo supplier said "tough shit, muck in oil caused failure,we specify that you should fit new supply and return pipes, you didn't,so warranty void"

They didn't tell me that, they told my motor factor who didn't pass the message on, I think it's bullshit and that if they specify you fit new pipes then they should sell a kit comprising of pipes and turbo.

Anyway, the bloke hasn't had a car since April, I'm the bad guy and he is suing me, my line of get out clause is that the car is the equivalent of a human that eats too many burgers and has a bit of muck in its arteries

They used to stipulate that the sump drop had to be done as well as new pipes etc . A post 04 should have been ok . I hate to say it but it was prob the flush that did it

To fail in 200 miles it must have been almost totally blocked. Also why did the original turbo fail ? Oil starvation ?

Posted

Original was blackened and seized, sump was dropped and it looked like a roasting tray from a student squat, I had it in the parts washer and scotchbrited it to spotless and put it back together with the specified sump sealant.

Engine was spun with plugs out and container under the feed and it came through clean

Nasty , lose lose situation . Did you take pics of the sump etc to show customer ? Easy to say now but I would have stated no warranty etc once I saw it was in that state .

Wanted a properly sized spare wheel rather than the space saver and to do a bit of tyre rotation so obviously bought 4 wheels off of that there ebay, that were nearly a match but not quite and badly painted black. [shite backstory to add flesh to the story: Seller was a Nice Chap with a yellow metro hls, a lotus and a ginetta.

a bit rough and ready when you look close. I did brush it over with 240 grit before painting, but i was well hacked off with sanding by then so didn't put much effort in so there are loads of scratches that show. Up close its shoddy, but will fine on the hack.

My 1961 Reliant Regal lives a sheltered life (garaged) and only does about 600 miles per year (it's an acquired taste, and always takes me at least 10 miles to reacquire the pleasure of precarious driving on three crossply shod wheels, whilst sitting next to an ancient sidevalve engine which makes so much din in producing 17.5bhp - on a good day). However, I have owned it since 1992, had it back on the road since 2005 and have got all sentimental about the damned thing, so selling it is not really an option. The News: Yesterday I fondled its many nipples and spoke to it nicely. Today it passed its MOT. Another year of legalised terror has been thus granted.

Cor. An old sidevalve Regal eh? Have we seen pics of this yet?

Shite 'n Scenery, post No 124. Too late in the evening to remember how to link.
