The First Year in the Life of a Philippines Car Spotter

Pretty sure there's not a thread entitled "Fragments of 'shite found at the roadside" so I'll bung this in here. Found yesterday outside my local Co-op, I just couldn't leave this sorry thing to the mercy of the Caahncil roadsweeper (she's a very nice lady but I'm certain she wouldn't appreciate the provenance of this particular piece of detritus).

So it's now in my garage and I'll bin it in a few years time probably.

Nice one! I found a Moke mudflap in the road a while back. Never did spot a Moke running round with one missing, so ebayed it (to Italy) earlier in the year.

A lean month, what with the working and everything.

Change my pitch up, smack my Benz up (it's not my Benz tho).

Old-school industrial estates can be fertile spotting grounds; they'd build a canteen but they haven't got much space. Yeah? Yeah.

Old-school estates can be spotted elsewhere, No obscure music references are forthcoming at this time.

A somewhat newer estate and not a 300C which surprised me when I spotted this from the rear; Dodge Magnum RT

Golf GTI with balloon tyres.

Driven by a younger person; the classic car scene still has a future.

Older persons can be relied upon for classics scenes

Take a mundane voiture, let an Italian designer loose on it and oh baby.

Spend a fucking fortune restoring a mundane motor? I'd like to think that we all fantasise about doing it.

I really like that Vauxhall. Considering ita been restored it looks remarkably not shit. It sold for an insane amount though. The 404 went for a little more than £31k I think, which is a bit of a bargain really seeing as €25k will get you a major project in France these days. I know where I'll be selling mine when the time comes, and it ain't Historics

What's the script with that Rover? Some sort of homebrew effort?

Even more amazing is that its been around like that for nearly a quarter of a century and I can't recall seeing it before....I don't usually approve of such things but that is a huge exception.

You know what, I stared at that pic for ages trying to find something odd and all I could see was the weirdly shaped number plate on the Jag. Hopeless. I reckon that Rover looks like a great job!

I'm trying to take more of an interest in modern cars despite the protestations of my aged and jaded soul; my first thoughts here were "Batman". The proper one with Adam West and that other guy........ Burt Ward, that's him.

Speaking of Legends, here's another with ignominious rims.

Oooh, a Corolla estate with Toyota GB plates. A bit rare over here, I believe.

Derelict Xantia, doesn't do anything anymore.

I heart SsangYongs for some unknown reason. Probably 'cos of the slightly* weird name that is "SsangYong".

Mary, Mungo and Midge are wearing a bit thin now; time for a new avatar.

Coupe means cut I think, and the Rover P5 Coupe has a lower roof, so it is sort of cut.

But not properly cut in the two door personal car kind of way like that 2 door. Which is lovely.

Merry crimble to you and may the top drawer spottages in your thread continue next year! Or something...

So it's dark outside now and that means there will be no more spots from me in 2018. And it's been a pretty good year.

Time for the eagerly* anticipated Spot Of The Year award.

It was going to be this Prairie...

001.thumb.jpg.1eb25e0f64e17304eb70a52de40b9d0c.jpg

... but I saw another shortly after which took the edge off of both their gloriousnesses.

002.thumb.jpg.3b13f0aa7134c83d5c95d047cd3c8df0.jpg

This LNA nearly, so nearly took the winner's tape...

003.thumb.jpg.2c1d05d42f64291d3f14cfe30b33def6.jpg

... but just like last year, a December spot managed to pip all challengers by the smollest of margins.

004.thumb.jpg.b8b06c8d273ddb0726c57fc1825aa02e.jpg

Happy New Year.

While you're here, I'd just like to say a big "thank you" to everyone who contributes to the Autoshite forum. If this place has one fault it's that there is too much good stuff to read; I know I've missed loads due to lack of hours in the day and I hope that sometime soon I will be able to start my very own "Collecshaan Tred" with some piece of unloved exotica* as it's hero.

Still undecided as to how much Brooklands New Year's Day content to add here; bramz' thread has some of the highlights but with over 1500 cars in attendance, neither of us managed to catch everything. Nor did anyone else for that matter. Anyways, I'll start with the two AS highlights and have a think about where to go from here.

Winner of FOTU '18 and looking very much a winner here too.

Proper highlights those!! Definitely my idea of shite though in terms of how they're being used, probably both "crossed over" that classic car line now.

OK I've decided to add some more. There was something about this Jag that I liked; hard to define but it felt to me like a car that gets thrashed, often.

001.thumb.jpg.a99ec880825e04d1abf68841491d9673.jpg

I'd love to have a go in one of these. Why? It's hard to define.

The missing 'R' is like a missing tooth. Or summat.

Already in bramz' thread but this was a real highlight for me; got a bit of a thing for later Lancias, see.

(A security guard saw me taking these photos, assumed it was mine and asked if I intended to park it here. Fascinating*!)
