The Thousand Pound Range Rover

I've had it a year , it's stood for a week and fired up like it was started yesterday , only warning messages I've seen are, it's 4 degrees outside so you might want to put a coat on and buy a new battery for the key tightwad.

in the service history it's had a recon gearbox , suspension and pump , stays up even if not moved for a week,, I know the engine is low mileage because I saw it running in the car I bought it from, about 70,000 miles , meant to take a picture of the dash but forgot

The problem with the air not blowing on the screen seems to have fixed itself , aircon was regassed and is freezing, NS disc brake shield is rattling , needs a big washer under the bolt

It drives really nice and for £2500 if something major went bang it'd break for quite a lot

MOT History DF 03 VNS https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

link cost £11 , CV boot was a loose jubilee clip

This car is a mega bargain and an absolute no brainer compared with any other L322 in the country. You can’t buy a properly viable one for £2500 unless you’re in the trade which is why I’ve bought an E53 X5 instead.

If I hadn’t left a deposit on the X5 I’d be driving this home on Saturday

On vans - if I could’ve found a sprinter/crafter equivalent to my Relay at the time I would’ve bought one without a shadow of a doubt. Proper van.

Mechanics might not agree :D

Just rang a guy about a fiat ducato , I've rung people before and thought I'm not even going to look at that but didn't get that vibe from this guy so deposit left

anybody want to buy a transit :D

Posted

Man I have want for this like everything else shiny. Champagne tastes and beer pockets.

What's even more annoying is I've just put a deposit down on a van, in Exeter , so I could've driven it down

Wack - Just a very tentative enquiry. Where are you based (sorry if I missed it in the advert\post).

Thanks.....

The wife likes this very much...shame the wheel is on the wrong side for us

I can see how that'd be a problem, it'd be fun to watch her scream as you pull out to overtake and she gets first glimpse of an artic coming straight at her though

Posted

It's fast enough to overtake?

And tbh the fecking hgvs over here drive on whichever side of the road suits them, depends on what the driver is looking for.....Red Bull shop,Vodka store or a "nice" hooker

* When I started reading this thread I somehow missed a big chunk of it Before I wrote a reply which wasn't very helpful, so I've removed it, sincere apologies to the OP

Anybody spending £2500 on a 40k car is taking a risk , if you don't like that risk rent a KIA for £30 a week , this is a MOt'd running, driving, all the warning lights go out, AC works , sunroof works ,radio works, 8mm on the tyres Range Rover for £2500 which is as cheap as they get

Posted

Daft question @wack have you looked at the fuses for the screen? my old xj had 2 30A jobs for the screen, LH and RH? worth a looky if you havent already?

Posted

I have a vague memory of looking at fuses but it hasn't been misty for 8 months so I've not needed it on so haven't bothered looking any further , I will check that thanks

Sincere apologies, somehow I missed a massive chunk of the thread and didn't twig that the subject had changed from where my head was at the point I thought I was writing my reply, I have edited my post due to its unhelpful nature.

Just another update, this is on a  sorn , battery was knackered so I've just fitted a new one, started first time, all lights went out, nothing bad to report , still for sale £2500 but I've decided I really like it so I'm not taking less, I've got close to 4k in it now

Just putting that here. How many miles have you done? i.e. cost per mile ?

Posted

It's not about the mileage , it's the experience :D

My plan was to sell her b class and use this but that didn't happen , i've probably done 2000 miles in it since I've had it.

Posted

Yep -  was like that for the jag, lost money on it but got to drive it around for 5 months! and by having the MOT work done it got to live on for another 12 months.

I'd have actually lost less money if I scrapped it when the MOT was up but it really was to clean to scrap for the sake of a couple hundred with the MOT man.

I am in turmoil here, I have no requirement for a 4x4, no need to tow anything, and most of the time I'm the only person in the car but I WANT THIS.  A friend has had one for 10 years now and it's thoroughly lived up to it's reputation for unreliability and ruinous running costs, but I STILL WANT IT.  Let's see it again so some other sucker can impulse-buy it before I do something stupid:

I'm damn glad I've just got my XJR or I'd be seriously tempted by this.

Supercharged V8 for sale here, for epic bills.

Did you put up any details on this?

Posted

No, I didn't think anyone was interested.

I'll get some pics and details and put it in the modern section at some point if you want.

There's a a fear of Range Rovers , you'd think they have a reputation for unreliability

This one needs a lot of cleaning and the boot emptying beforeits ready for sale and It's too cold to be bothered with it and the MOT is due soon so I'm witdrawingit from sale

I'd start your own thread though , people will think it's £1000

I like this, and it's even local, but I'm avoiding diesels for the rest of my life.

Next time, do a V8 one.

Posted

We're trying out that theory, mind you, our test subject is 22 years old. So far, so good.

Another update , after standing for a couple of months on a battery conditioner I fired it up and , no warning lights , everything works, took it for mot today which it passed

But , it does like to remind you it's a range rover , set off this morning, got 100m and the rear OS passenger window went down , put it back up, 2 minutes later went down on it's own again

I think it's trying to scare me
