I've had a search and I can't see if there's a shitefest 2018- There's the brilliant Euro one being planned but I had in mind whilst looking at our weekend on call rota more of a typical weekend thing for those without the luxury of being able to have a whole week of shite- have I missed the thread?

Nope, we’ve just not had one yet.

Can we do Wales please

Doesn't seem to be another thread yet, but I'll get my vote in now for SOMEWHERE FURTHER NORTH PLEASE.

NO GHOSTY, WALES IS NOT NORTH. :P

No I don't think you have missed a thread, it normally gets decided fairly last minute but I agree it wouldn't hurt it to start planning it now.

+1 I'd love Devils bridge again that was superb in so many ways. I seem to remember dw saying the hotel was now under new management. Equally I'd love a road trip north of the border

Posted

Well, it was a brave battle to try pushing it north, but it seems I've already lost.

I'll just factor in for two days of travelling each way... again.

Could we tie it into the weekend of the return leg from the Euro trip? We can have a good look over what's made it back across and there might be sales to be made. Having said that I don't know if the Eurotrippers will be so keen on that and perhaps would rather trek straight home for a rest!

Posted

I remember people saying we were welcome at the Internal Fire Museum.

Regarding north: we don’t end up there much because a lot of AS is in England and half of the Scottish lot seem to prefer to come down to us.

I’m not against it, for the record - considering I’m almost slap bang in the middle of the UK I don’t really care which way I go.

edit: time is not an issue.

Posted

I will be out of the UK from 26-06 to 11-07 so please don't make it anytime between those dates. Location I don't care as I will drive anywhere but dates are important.

Posted

When I said north I didn't even mean Scotland, just not several hundred miles into England.

It's always a losing battle, though, as I know how much of AS is very far south (relative to me).

Can we hold it at "crail"? I have no idea where it is but several shiters are regulars is it a track or a drag strip? For me the great bit of the Wales SF was our " test route" having a private track of some sort would be an extension of this.

There’s also the matter that a lot of northern England is a bit shit.

Crail is past Edinburgh.

So it's in Scotland and is described as an "events venue" sounds promising! What do any crail regulars recon?

Posted

Oh yeah me again with potential objections. Can we make sure not it to hold it at a Motorsport venue which prohibits dogs? I stopped going to the Retro Rides Gathering for the longest time as they are normally held at non dog friendly venues.

What about Lydden hill? Dog friendly, and close to Dover to allow the Euro trip shiters to call in en route back from Their shite buying mission without it being a major detour for them. Who has the most lethal handling import?

I'd rather not do Kent to be honest. I'd like to do The North again. It's been a while since KruJoe and Will hosted it. Has their village recovered yet?

Thing with shitefests is someone just has to pick a location and then a weekend then get it booked.

Whatever happens some will make it, some won't.

I did it this year and happily will do it again

Crail is great and you can hire it out but I would imagine it is a bit to far for most.

OBV not realistic/ possible but I'd love to have it held on an airstrip where those scrappage vehicles are hoarded! Actually do those ranks of vehicles exist anymore it's nearly 10 yrs ago now.

I had in mind to get in touch with the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum and see if they'd be willing. They're on a huge ex Royal Navy yard/industrial estate outside Dunfermline, and I'd jokingly said it was the only way I was ever getting to an SF, if it was 20mins from home. I've failed every single year so far.

Crail however, is right in the middle of Fife tourist country, so getting camping for a weekend there in summer will likely be problematic. Unless the circuit owners are up for it.

If the Scottish bus museum is a goer then I can see people travelling for that.

It's near Knockhill, so you'll know roughly where it is. Come off the M90 at Kelty and it's signposted.

There's even a heritage railway of an underwhelming sort.

Saying all that about Crail, I might have an idea, if the East Neuk is desirable.

I've always thought it inevitable that it should be oop north or higher one year, the svm and associated always make the effort!

As usual, ill wait for it to be battled out and work out if I can and can't come. Childcare is my issue, amy works alternate weekend etc, so I'm in no position to help decide!

Car camping is pretty essential for me though, no matter how good a hotel sounds, for me there's nothing to beat sitting around chatting until way past bedtime then crawling into the car quite pissed and sleeping!

Plus it would give all us southerners a fucking good excuse for a massive shite convoy. We could take over barrhead services for tea and cake, as per the old charter, tradition or something

I think there were things being said about arranging SF18 for the weekend after the Euroshite group got back (this is subject to us actually making it back), which I believe would be Saturday the 2nd of June.

Would this date be something that might work?

Posted

Crail?!

Ha! Even in summer you'll freeze to death with the non-stop wind coming in from the north sea. Exposed is an understatement for that site.

Camping at Knockhill is pleasant though.

The SVBM site is quite sheltered, which is a plus. It is quite possible to get frostbite and sunburn simultaneously on East Neuk beaches though. Also, it's quite a schlep even from somewhere easy to find like Glenrothes, and traffic can be horrendous in summer.

It does sound like Shitefest North is likely so far, I’ll say that.

*reads thread*

Soooo....Cornwall then?

:-D

With the Mondeo's fuel usage it would genuinely be cheaper for me to get a flight to Birmingham and to ask you to pick me up, then we go to Cornwall in your car.
