Which shiter ended up with the Junkman spec Rav4? LOL

I think that went to 155V6, as part of a big box of oddities and strays... I must have had it for ten years before I noticed the Austria/Australia mix-up!

Great stuff, thats decent coin there. I have a couple of boxes of models assembled for a swapmeet next week that 320_t and I are attending. I need to raise some shite funds and also clear out models that I no longer display.

Aye, it's been a long time coming... sorting these out and moving them on has been on my to-do list for about 8 years. I'd taken fits and starts, car-booting some and selling others through the Toy Shite FB page (amongst many others), but experiences were sometimes mixed. Car boot sales seem to have weirdly died a death round here, with very very few now remaining. Maybe people just stick their surplus stuff on Gumtree now?

I can't say that photographing, uploading and packing so many models is something I actively enjoy, but it's been satisfying watching the crates in the shed shrink down... and also really nice to see pics of them in their new homes! Makes it feel a little less final than watching some randomer at a car boot sale wander off with bits of your childhood.

Cost-effective it's not, given the time involved, but I think I'm nearly there now - and yeah, liquidating this asset has done what I'd hoped, and put me back in the black financially, with a bit left over for proper savings.

And, once it's all done and dusted, I'll be able to go through my other crates of models - and then show you all via the Shite In Miniature thread what I've kept. Spoiler - there's some quite nice stuff in there!

Hope your sales go equally well!

You'll probably not remember, but I'm just around the corner from you in Whiteabbey. I suppose being a middle-aged fart with a wife and kids might well bring it down, but despite living in a less salubrious part of NI (just on the edge of what used to be Europe's biggest housing estate) and only driveway parking I get quotes for some quite bananas motors at very reasonable money. The current soft top CLK comes in at about £250 and I've tested the water with silly things like a 90s E55 Benz - £330 - and total pie in the sky 90s Bentley Continental R at £350. Point being is postcode can't be the deciding factor. It's probably the history of claims on similar cars in the area so perhaps pick something total bonkers and get relatively cheap insurance!

it is down to the statistics and if there are trends.

Nobody who owns an E55 would be the type to actually crash. They probably have statistics that show no claims ever.

where as the type of people who might own a 1.4 focus include a broader cross section of people including the types like my Dad who has never knowly caused a crash and my wife's friend who drives like Tony pond on a bad day. so they have statistics that show that sometimes people crash them and some of those people are similar to you.

That said there's something about a big auto that makes you go slower in town.

My big box of "car stuff" has arrived here in drumsville.

It's currently hiding in the garage waiting for the rest of the household to go to bed so I can unpack it in peace without having to explain why I've bought dozens of toy cars.

Now, I wonder if she'd notice if I displayed them in there instead of that lot...?post-5582-0-53046800-1529954304_thumb.jpg

Surely you've got room to build a display case on the Old's parcel shelf?

As it happens a couple of very nice shiny new-ish cars have appeared just round the corner from where I live in the guise of a 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S and 2016 BMW X5. Not that note worthy if you live in fancy parts of say Surrey, more so in less salubrious parts of Co. Antrim (where a three-bed house costs £80K). Perhaps it's just the cheap insurance!

On another note, Datsuncog do you ever go for a jolly to the weekly Ballyclare auction? For those that don't know it's a proper last stop before the scrappy auction although quite often gets in some rarities. See:

That's a good shout. I could build a wee diorama on the rear parcel shelf.

Parcel arrived today and thank you very much DC.

I appreciated the surprise model too!

Genuinely really pleased with what I acquired, quite a few knocked off my list and it's sparked a desire for a lot more. That was the plan all along...

Hey, fantastic! Glad it's all made its way over intact - enjoy, sir!

Excellent... was concerned that Parcelfarce might make a bit of a balls-up, so very glad it all arrived okay!

Here's hoping you got a chance to indulge in a spot of after-dark minishite... there's a few in there I'd set aside for you before I'd managed to post pics on the threads, so maybe a few unseen surprises lurking in there... and a diorama on the Olds' rear shelf might be quite impressive...

Cheers for letting me know - enjoy!

Whoo-hoo! Glad all's good, and (despite the disgraceful condition, which is how I picked it up c.1995) I couldn't not include that tatty 605 in the box... hopefully you'll have a bit of fun with them!

Thanks for letting me know - I think that's all the paid-up parcels bar Junkyarddog's (which is currently in transit) now safely in their new homes.

Some quick calculations reveal that I've posted over 50kg of models over the past six weeks.

That's a lot. No wonder my arms are bloody sore, carting that lot up to the Post Office.

I've actually never been to Ballyclare Auctions, would you believe - from the sound of it, might be a bit similar to Carryduff Auctions! Last time I was there; a massively rotten Mitsubishi Sigma was going through the ring... Do frequent Wilson's in Mallusk, though not for a wee while now... cheers for the reminder!

Some lovely surprises, thank you.

You could get a job at a box packing factory developing an algorithm for optimising the available cubic centimetres. After unpacking and revelling in my haul of mini chod, I tried to put them back in the box. Managed to get about 60% back in before overflowing.

In fact, the Land Rover set had a length that was greater than any of the three dimensions of the box, maybe even longer than the space diagonal. Are you Dr Who and is this cardboard box the Tardis?

Heh... it did require a reasonable amount of packing and re-packing, that one - it was the only box I had to hand that was nearly big enough, but we got there in the end!

Luckily, Mrs DC likes to make sure I refresh my packing skills on a regular basis, so I'm always optimised...

As I recall, the Cararama Land Rover six-pack just about fitted vertically in one corner, so long as the bubble-wrap & foam was dead flat - sadly, I do not have full mastery of time and space.

If I did, I would have kept all the oil inside TAZ's engine block, for starters...

Rightyho so, into the final stages of this diecast chodathon...

I think that's nearly all items requested now dispatched, and PMs to that effect provided - another load found its way to the Post Office this morning; I've another two paid-up orders to wrap and post when I get home, and there are a couple of orders which have been held over by arrangement until July, which is absolutely fine with me.

The dining room still looks a little like a gas explosion in a cardboard recycling yard, but I'll attempt to tidy that up a bit later.

My plans to go merrily a-car booting on Sunday morning hit a minor snag, as on arrival there was no other bugger there (Sainsburys carpark). A closer examination of the listing online revealed that the event page was last updated in April 2011. Ah.

Another car-boot sale resuming over the summer months then came to my attention: now this is occurring in my hometown 25 miles away, and is where I'd carried out the bulk of my previous diecast disposals back in summer 2010. It's a busy enough event - that summer I'd generally been lifting £300-£400 each time I went along in the XM estate, making it certainly worth my while. So I'd planned to make an early start this coming Saturday, but have just discovered that it doesn't actually start until Saturday 7 July.

So if anyone's still interested (and not yet utterly fed up with this thread bobbing around despite minimal real car content), this is the final hundred or so models still remaining, and ergo the list of what will be coming along to the Boot Sale next Saturday:

Vanguards 1/43:

Corgi 1/43:

Minichamps 1/43:

Solido/Verem 1/43:

1/43 Models - Assorted Manufacturers:

 Older toys (approx. 1/43):

Cararama 1/72 single models:

 Cararama 1/72 Gift Sets:

 Cararama 1/87 Commercials:

Random 1/72ish Models:

1/24 Scale Models:

 1/18 Scale Models:

Odds ‘n’ sods:

You might note that there's a handful of new listings scattered about in the above that managed to get overlooked earlier in all the jumble - I'll post some pics up later - so, y'know... if anything grabs you, do sing out.

Please remember that the prices above INCLUDE POSTAGE, with a minimum order value of £3 to cover p&p (hey, I'd like to think I'm fairly generous but I'm not quite in a position to pay to have these taken away...)

In truth, I feel significantly more comfortable selling to shiters (who have all been unfailingly brilliant, without exception) than the general public who, if experience holds true, tend to attempt loud bully-boy tactics to force a sale at far below asking price while dropping fag-ash all over my stuff...

Ballyclare auction is great for a bit of craic. It's mainly dealers selling to private buyers. The odd classic beauty pops up, which I've shared on these very pages.

Perhaps an NI jolly might be in order? If ever there were an auction that encapsulates Autoshite it's got to be Ballyclare.

Interested to hear it's mainly dealers. One of the handful of rules I had when buying classics at auction was to avoid dealer cars on the basis that if a dealer can't fix it or sell it for a profit then what hope had I.

^^^ Aye, there's been efforts to get a few Ulster shiters together for a while now... hopefully could find a date that suits a few of us?

Seems to be on every Wednesday at 7pm, so I'd imagine we could swing something?

It is indeed every Wednesday at 7pm. I'm more than happy to have a little met up and the cars would be provided without any effort. I'd imagine that that usual July shutdown occurs, but early-mid August would be a goer for me. Any other takers?

There was an Irish Shiter Meet-up thread knocking about somewhere - hang on and I'll see if I can find it.

Or possibly easier to create a new Shite Mini-Meet thread for those of us on these fair shores...

Posted

I saw the Irish meet, but wasn't convenient at the time. A mini-met would suit. It's only a bit up the road for us and comes with wall-to-wall chod to look at. Nearly everything is sub-£1K. Where's Faker? There's got to be a few more NI shitters here. I've been a couple of times on my own and on the last occasion dragged my poor six-year-old as the wife refused to go. Had to buy him off with chips from the dangerous van. Nothing like feeding your kid burnt chips with salt, vinegar and exhaust fumes.

Not sure whether the planned Irish meet-up ever really got off the ground - wouldn't have been ideal for me this year either, but Ballyclare's just up the road so eminently do-able...

Think our NI-based shiter quotient is something like:

  • You (The_Equalizer)
  • Me (Datsuncog)
  • Faker
  • they_all_do_that_sir
  • AdamMcC (Cortina-fondler extraordinaire)
  • Binhoker (when he's over here on holiday)
  • R9UKE (not on the Beige Page very much these days, but plenty active on the Facebook page and a regular auction-hound)
  • A few other local lads from the AS FB page who don't seem to have forum accounts here, but may well be up for a mini-meet.

Anyone else you can think of yourself?

I've a load of diecast in a Lidl tomato box to hand over to Faker next time I see him - and I do rather like chips with plenty of vinegar and CO...

You lads need to come over for a Cannock auctions DETHBURGA.
