Meet Roadkill in Northampton Sunday 19th November!

I'm a doubtful, sadly. Number of reasons, none of them huge but put together they all stack up against. I will post up here if that changes though.

My dad and I are planning on wandering over.

The weather looks set to be great for this sort of thing tomorrow. Very cold but blue skies and sunny. Not much wind either.

I wonder if there's a chance more people than they suspect will turn up. The carpark isn't exactly gargantuan...

I have some friends who have gone there this evening and staying over tonight, EPC want cars on-site around 6.30-7am abut the roadkill guys aren't getting there until.10am. It's gonna be manic on the industrial estate!

EBC want cars on-site around 6.30-7am

Good thing I wasn't chosen then, fuck getting up that early! What kind of cars have they picked? Hopefully not a bunch of trailer queens.

Well they have accepted "Oldfords" blue Sierra LX to display, the girl who now owns/inherited it only emailed them Friday and they added her straight away.

The girl I mention above who now has oldfords Sierra is the girl with "cortinaboy" in that Montego photo!

Sorry to be missing this but have my daughter and her Mum has banned her from riding in the AMC on "safety grounds"

This was a good show which I enjoyed a lot. My favourite was the black Mercedes Coupe.

I thought it was good....certainly a mix of cars and I imagine there were plenty who wanted to display so choosing must have been difficult.

A good free afternoon out

'Car park' Spots

These are completely unedited and are almost pap-snapped...the car-park was essentially any verge of the highway that was wide enough to support a vehicle.

The Show

In no particular order...

One of my favourite cars of the show was this Dutch Volvo 940 estate with a Supra twin-turbo unit in it...

This was parked next to a blue Scoobaru and was much more attractive and interesting...a beige Poplar Plus in pretty much just-made condition. Lovely.

This Vin Diesel thing seemed to have a strange engine swap, but stupidly I didn't get a photo of the actual car. You can see it in the background of the pick-up truck:

A cracking show! Helped too by marvellous weather.

Yeah was a good day out and a very enjoyable afternoon where I got to drive a Saab Turbo and Triumph Vitesse for the first time :)

Not sure how I missed that beige Fiesta though.

But did anyone... meet Roadkill?

I could have stood in the queue to meet Frieburger or Dulcich but decided not to as I am rubbish at meeting famous people and would have just said something inane and embarrassed myself. I have seen Frieburger with my own eyes though so that's cool.

Posted

A friend of mine met them both, and got a bit of her Dyane signed by them. Doesn't sound like there was vast time for chat, unsurprisingly.

Posted

Were they wandering around looking at the cars or was it more like a book signing thing?

Posted

When I saw them they were standing outside the main entrance of the EBC headquarters with a pretty long queue to meet Frieburger and a substantially shorter queue to meet Dulcich. They may have moved around later but I only spent about an hour tops there.

Oldford's Sierra looks nothing short of amazing.  What a fantastic tribute to the man; a real credit.

That bornite 190 on the verge looks proper fit as well.  10/10 would own.

But did anyone... meet Roadkill?

I did. Had a very brief chat, here are the facts:

1. They're in the UK for two days, and it's just for this event / so Dulcich can see a bit of London on the way out

2. Neither of them have been to the UK since they were kids. They were supposed to view and judge the cars but so many people turned up they just did a meet and greet at the back of the yard.

3. Freiburger did bring flip flops but after an hour outside he decided enough was enough - "I realised I wasn't in California any more."

4. 100 people were expected

5. 2000 showed up, including cars from Holland and France. Elana Scherr (of HRM) live screened a chat with Finnegan.

6. A diesel specialist built a OM606 converted 1968 Charger especially for the event, and it won 'best converted car'

7. Jeff Lutz from Lutz Performance Engines (see leaf-blower Monza) was also there.

8. Such doges attended: two shibes and one enormous Newfoundland (owner was the bloke who built the Dodge Charger diesel)

9. Jonny Smith and his Charger were also there

10. The car park in and around the industrial estate (cue scores of pissed off truckers) was a show in itself.
