Had to share this here... One of my housemates has just passed his driving test & has just purchased his first car. He’s not a car person, but had decided he wanted a Ford KA.

He announced last week that he had paid £600 for a MY53 KA and was picking it up this weekend.

He did no checks at all. Just went, saw, bought.

Turns out it’s got 16k miles on it and the potentially rusty bits look like this:

It’s raining this weekend, I wouldn’t take it out. I’d be at home pressure forcing Waxoyl into its every orrifice.

Ah but what’s the filler cap surround like? These were rusty at 18 months old?

The Ka I had from 2002-2004 wasn't rusty at all. People thought I was taking the piss.

Although the exhaust fell off.

Bloody hell. Although with a just through their test driver I doubt it'll stay that clean for long. What a bargain though.

If those pics are anything to go by the housemate has acquired a car that's too good too use as a daily unless just in the summer months and even then after being drowned in cavity wax, it could well be the last of its type left in another few years.

It ought to be preserved. This is also utterly demoralising. My brother is taking his driving test on Monday so we are looking for a car now. I'm pretty much insisting he has a Duratec powered Ka on account of OMG amazing go kart handling. If that one also has the Duratec engine it will be a fantastic package. I would buy it for £700, but sulk at the fact that it is going to rust the moment it sees real world use.

Interestingly a mate of mine used to to own a very tidy (possibly unregistered) Ford KA in I think Red aswell. I womder if it's the same car. He wanted to preserve it but eventually sold it to someone who saw it parked in his parents garage.

That must be one of the very few that seem to be have been made from steel that’s not crap. I’d fill it full of waxoyl with haste and get it protected under those arches, maybe pop the plastic trim covers off and see what lurks beneath as they can hide horrors

Come on now you can't just show us that little bit, where's the fuel cap picture?

im sorry to say your mate will probably fuck that up being a new driver, you should forcibly remove it from him and fill every orifice of it full of rust proofing

Instead of pansying about moaning make him an offer; I'd suggest £500 for starters.
