For Sale Peugeot Expert FTP. Now Fur' Zayle, £125

My Expert has failed to proceed. Luckily it did this near to home.

 

I did a 40 mile journey in it earlier, parked at the local shop near to home and left it for half an hour. Came back to it and it started but would not rev. I got it back home at idle speed, switched it off and now it won't start at all. When I switch the ignition on i can hear the fuel pump prime and then stop as it should, then the engine turns over at a decent speed but won't fire. Occasionally it will attempt to start but doesn't.

 

It has suffered for some time with occasional loss of power though never enough to actually make it undriveable.

 

Any ideas folks?

Usual stuff first like fuel filter, leaky pipes.

 

On my Berlingo HDi there is a section of clear pipe between the filter and pump, any bubbles? Try the hand primer if it has one.

 

I think yours will be semi-multiplexed like mine meaning theres a throttle cable that pulls on a TPS thing attached to the side of the airbox, does this all appear to move when the throttle is pressed?

Will it run in WD40 squirted into the inlet manifold?

No clear pipe on mine. The throttle cable is connected in the engine bay to the underside of the scuttle panel where it goes into a TPS housing - this seems to twist and return as it should.

First thing I would do is pull an air pipe off and try and run it on brake cleaner / lynx/ wd40 etc . This will determine the mechanical side of the engine . Is the common rail pump wet ? They suffer from the o rings leaking and drawing air .

I had a 1.9d Expert donkey's years ago, the only time it FTPd was when the EGR valve gummed itself shut somehow.

Open - shut would make it run better

how about draining the fuel filter housing and then checking the lift pump refills it. Then at least you can rule that out as being faulty or not.

Not all of them have a lift pump, if you have a XUD style hand primer bulb on the engine then you have Siemens injection and therefore no lift pump. 

 

No bulb = Bosch = lift pump.

Bosch pump, lift pump works fine - filter bowl was drained and the pump refilled it straight away.

 

No obvious leaks, couldn't get enough access to squirt WD40 down the intake - short of it going in just past the MAF and having to be pulled through all the intercooler pipework I can't find an easy way in. The pipe I want to use means unbolting a fixed hard pipe and moving a few other things.

 

Carsoft diagnostics machine threw up around 10 faults all to do with the MAF, TPS and boost pressure but none of them should stop the van running.

It's a Peugeot Expert. 2001, MoT until March, good tyres. Economical when working. Issues as outlined above, come and take it away.

These are great vans, mine was a dent magnet though.
