Ive done various aspergers tests and I reckon Ive got it, even due to have a proper assessment as part of my psychologist counselling sessions for depression.

Scored 41 in that, it says the figure for aspergers is 32. Knew that anyway.

It comes with a ticket apparently but the plate has already gone onto a fiesta so to get the history online you would need to check with the seller.

The bumpers look like they've seen better days as the rear bumper has gone all MK2 Mondeo with a gaffa tape repair and the corner of the front bumper looks damaged plus the rear arches don't look good.

But on the plus side a 24000 mile zetec should be reliable, it's a car I would say that you drive it to the ticket runs out then throw it away once your Escort bug is out of your system.

But if it proves ok still in a years time then decide if it's worth throwing some money at it for Some localised paint repairs and a set of second hand bumpers plus a new set of rear arches if an Escort really floats your boat to bring it up to ship shape as long as it's not that rot underneath.

It also says ONO in the ad so it's a £350 car if not maybe a bit less but you will need that again to spend on Waxoyl on any 90s Ford.

My daughter is on the spectrum, I'm half way there myself and also obsess about the minuatae of Ford specifications. Someone needs to some research into this :-)

I score high as fuck on that Aspergers test and I definitely don't have it, at least not as strong as the test indicated.

It's a bit flippant and, if I'm honest in quite bad taste this whole Aspergers thing that's being banded about.

Has anyone actually seen the behaviour of somebody who really does have a proper strong strain of Aspergers? Perhaps some have.

Suicidal thoughts, threats to kill family members, confusion on gender and sexuality, inability to go to school/work, not washing, the list goes on and on and on.

Anyway, Escorts.

I feel like buying one now. I don't want one though.

So... we're looking to find a 96 on Escort special edition, that's rust free, with no baggy velour seats, dealer plates, that's lived in Glasgow it's entire life, done 40,000 miles and has a full and complete service history for £400?

I might get one, ignore the important jobs, faff with it, pretend everything is great with it, all documented in a massive thread before roffling it on here.

^^^ accurate representation of many other threads on here, difference is I've actually found this one interesting.

But see thats the thing, yes I want a tidy-ish one, local registered, but I dont want a minter/not fussed if its a bit ropey, Im going into this with my eyes open, I want to spend money on it, tinker with it, tidy it up, I dont want one thats fit for nothing but a crusher, or looks like its been stolen and dumped in a reservoir for 15years, but a scruffy one would not put me off at all, but I think part of the appeal is the tinkering side, sense of achievement getting a tired one back to its former glory. I think I want one more to have and mess around with than to drive and use as an actual car. I even doubt id actually want to drive the thing, too much out my comfort zone of new-ish cars from driving family members cars, work cars, my own sub 5year old cars in the past.

Ive done loads of tests on it. I score highly in them all so I must have it, ive been told by a lassie I used to be involved with that she thought I had it because her dad was assessed for it and has it and I showed similar traits, and my best mate from school said the same, his sisters partner and his nephew have both got it and he said I reminded him of them as well.

Ive seen the behaviour of my wifes 13 year old son who has autism, obviously as everyone knows aspergers is on the autism spectrum but much lower down. He exhibits some of the things you mention, he wouldnt wash if we didnt constantly prompt him to, still got to help him get ready for school because if something is slightly too much hassle he just gives up and wont do it, if you dont constantly tell him to get ready he would sit and watch tv all morning, Sometimes throws a hissy fit about going to school (like a 5year olds hissy fit) Goes in mega moods if he doesnt get his own way, Sometimes (we think) feigns illness to avoid school, but other times absolutely loves it, during the week we constantly need to wake him up, weekends and school holidays he wakes us up at 8am bright eyed and bushy tailed full of energy whooping and jumping about daft full of energy, cannot be persuaded to do anything if hes just decided hes not doing it, when he gets upset its full scale, has a propensity for proper meltdowns, Is so stubborn, but has a massive intelligence level, very very bright, knows whats going on in the world, right into US politics, is very switched on, clued up, has a wealth of knowledge not just like most autistic people do on a particular subject but actually understands it totally as well.

In many ways it has had an absolutely brilliant effect on him and obviously we wouldnt change him for it now, but in a lot of ways its horrific, and makes life very difficult, and makes even simple things difficult, he just wanders off at times if something in a shop catches his eye, cannot be trusted to go anywhere himself or even cross a road, doesnt socialise at all and hates going most places, doesnt really have friends, however at the same time his teachers are always telling us how popular and well like he is and how all the other kids swarm him but hes just not interested.

My Mrs says buying him a labrador about 5 years ago has made a huge change in him, not sure why.

1996 onwards yeah, but not a special edition unless its a Finesse, just not a basic model, dont care about the seats, or the dealer plates, or where its been its entire life, its mileage or history or number of owners.

I realise you said that with a bit of sarcasm, but I felt I had to point out im being no where near as fussy as it seems, so thought id clarify, not a shite special edition or base model, must have a Glasgow reg and have been sold new by a Glasgow dealer and not be totally rotten, other than that anything goes really, I dont think thats fussy at all?

Strain of Asperger's? It's not a disease.

I fulfil some of your criteria.

It's not flippant and not something to be ashamed of, I'm on a waiting list for a diagnosis myself.

Hendry I think some are suggesting that you are 'on the spectrum' (apologies I flipping hate that label but I cannot think of anything better right now) in part, because you are able to remember vast amounts of detail about many cars that you perhaps only briefly came into contact with in the past.

I don't recall you ever asking for anybody's opinion on that.

Personally I enjoy reading all of the car related detail in your posts, especially about Scottish Car dealers that are no longer in business. I can see that you aren't put off however :)

I hope you find an Escort. I won't say any more in this post unless I come across one you might be interested in.

That is all.

I could have this out of a breakers in Dumfries: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mattlikescars/10191961494/in/photolist-gwCt53-gwDjLB

If it hasnt had a CoD issued yet, the yard owner told us it was quite solid for a car most of which were rotten at 3 years old.

Having seen it is pretty solid, its Glasgow registered and is a Pukka GTI, however aside from how minging it is on the outside, its had plywood fitted all over the boot floor, side trims, where the rear seats would be, rear door cards, almost like a ply lined van is. Its had the tailgate smoothed where the number plate recess used to be, and the filler is now cracking at the edges, and for some reason despite being a GTi, the front door cards have blanking plates over where the winder handles were even though it wouldve had electric windows.

Most of the shitty bodykit has been sold now, but would probably require a shitload of new panels for example the bootlid, front wings, no doubt a shitload of wiring, and definitely paint as with this not being an original Escort colour I wouldnt find body panels in a matching colour, however surely that would be better than a rotten standard one needing a load of new metal welded in, plus its probably the only Glasgow registered GTi still around.

Yes I must be made for even considering it, hopefully its been condemned already or I might just buy it.

I *know* you said MK6 but check this honey out! Look at the plates too. Edinburgh I know but still ace! My dad got a Cortina from Wylies in the early 1980s. On eBay just now.

Your money and your choice, admire your stance. It's perfectly Autoshite for you to want the Glasgow one in your scenario.

I am glad someone else said this as that is what I have been thinking all through this thread.

When I first joined members were purchasing some very ropey, unloved, known to rot cars and I never saw any criticism, nowadays  I think Hendry would get less adverse comments if he was purchasing a Nissan Juke on a ten year finance plan at 50% apr whilst offering his mother as a part exchange! I always thought that was one of the raison d'être of autoshite, love the unloved and unfashionable.

I have just purchased a 1994 FIesta, it has just had some welding, it is unloved, basic spec and has been broken into at some point in the past and has/had several bits missing, should I have just scrapped it? A few years ago you could purchase a mark 2 Fiesta for a few hundred, I have just watched a rather tatty example go for over £1,000 on ebay. Might not eventually a mark 5 or 6 Escort gain a similar status, nearly everything else with a Ford badge has?

As for dealer plates I think they add interest to a car whether old or new. Not long ago I saw a early Ford Mondeo on ebay with "Jessup's of Stoubridge" on the plates, my parents bought a Sierra from there in the 80's whilst going out on a Sunday afternoon for a bag of Sugar. I wanted it for that reason, although it was more than I could afford, it was for totally sentimental reasons I admit.

My Renault 5 has it's original Renault London Branch sticker and rear number plate complete with '01' number, it adds interest and a talking point to the car.

The top covering on my spaceship Civic number plate is coming off, showing the red backing underneath. As they're original plates that are marked HUM (Honda United Kingdom Manufacturing - factory did PDI to Honda factory worker), I quite like them and can't be replaced with the same...

So as the MOT is up in a few weeks, I've cracked out the Sharpie and got colouring in. :D

Is it negative or is it folk trying to point out if you have no space, tools or ability to weld on a limited budget you may be better buying an escort based on it's condition rather than what's on it's number plates?

Seems like good advice to me, Henry can of course totally ignore it and keep looking for an Escort based on it's number plate if he wants.

Can you not just email pictures of it to dmb and they make you a set?

Can they do that? Never really looked into them. I assumed they only had a set load of styles.

Plus that involves spending money on it. So far the black Sharpie has sorted it for the last 3 years. :P

I had a mate that had an Acapulco. Unfortunately he stayed in it too long and went locco down in it.

I was more referring to the negative comments about mark 6 Escorts in general, they rust therefore they must be avoided at all costs and consigned to the dustbin of history. If that was the case then we would have very few survivors from the 70's if people didn't try and keep some on the road. Obviously there is nothing wrong with advice about purchasing as solid car as possible. However, I can see Hendry's reasoning even if it seems slightly eccentric!

Posted

slightly eccentric!

I would get a second opinion on that. Seems literally certifiable to this mental health expert* but to each taste, thier own.

Id have a Mexico or RS2000 or GTI just to piss off Ford lickers.

WOT U GOT M8?

Oh i drive an Escort Mexico.

WOW IZ IT 4 SELL?

Erm yes. £3000 pay now, view later.
