Shite MPV recommendations please

Sorry, I've re-read the request and see you need ample room for 4 fat blokes and a blue badge holder.

AutoShite should have one of these for a members rental:

A Plaxton Mini Supreme hammered over a CF would be just the ticket.

Myself and the chap who would share the driving with me are both former bus drivers...but I suspect that would also fail the 300 miles in 5 hours test, unfortunately! :)

Damnit, every other time I've looked there seem to be loads of Ulysse Prestigios for sale, now that I'm actually serious about buying one there's only the one very dodgy looking one to be seen. Irritating, as I really like the idea of the 6 captain's chairs. Can't find a Pug 807 Executive SE either (they have the same seating arrangement).

Where are you djimbob? If I'm honest I don't particularly like the look of Kia Sedonas, but if it's a sound car that will seat 3 or 4 large people and a blue badge holder in comfort for 14 hours then I might keep you as a backup option if you're not at the other end of the country.

Not if everyone leans forward in their seats :D

Seriously juicy those but good wagons

Aye, they seem as popular as a dose of genital warts but the ones I've driven have been a decent steer for a car that size.

Quite a few under £1000 on gumtree, all 2.2 pez engines.

I would go with jims sedona. I had one and if the injectors have been done then it's a good buy. You will also get your money back. The young man I look after used to fit well in the back seat. He is 6,5" and 20 stone. Not a lot of boot space but have the roof bars ready for a box.

I'm in Leeds mate, which is typically rather Northern, but am happy to collect from train stations/ wherevs, the coach can be well cheap if you're on the right route ;)

The Sedona really is brilliant for the chubsters among us, and will cruise at 80 plus no bother - me and my hefty mate did a ridiculous amount of mileage in a very short time going to Spain, make sure you get one of those T (toll?) devices which lets you thru the toll booths and bills you later, saves ages farting around for change and so on, and of course use the toll roads if time is a premium in the first place, makes a huge difference time-wise :)

I have a 57 Renault Espace that regularly transports 3 adults and 3 children (that means 3 chunky kids seats) on 100mile+ journeys.  It will cruise at whatever speed you want in complete comfort though the most I've done it at is 90.  It is the best car that I have ever owned in the sense of fulfilling it's desired purpose.  Every seat is an individual seat and has masses of inidividual adjustment.  It's the 2.0 dci with 6 speed and has been 100% reliable in the 18 months and approx 10k miles I've had it.  Inside is it is a lovely place to be with leather and gadgets, it's very quiet at any road speed and the stereo is absolutely amazing (cabasse maybe?) I think it would be top 5 of cars you should consider for your journey.  Just be sensible about what you are buying as there are a lot of crap ones out there.  Stick to 2.0 dci and 6 speed manual for least potential problems.

Picasso 2.0 HDI for the win, OR Galaxy, pref with the 1.9 PD TDI.

Both cars have excellent engines.

I'm selling my 307 with removable seats, take one out the middle row and put it in the boot where the seven seats go then move the two middle seats inboard. Lots of space then and all good.

Chrysler Grand Voyager Limited XS. They are tougher than you probably think and supremely comfortable. 30mpg from my 3.3V6 (2002) was very easy, I could squeak it up to 35 if I hung around with the HGVs instead of racing Audis. They handle okay.

I got mine because I had my right leg in a cast and am a stubborn git who wanted to keep driving. Column shift and enough room in the footwell for said leg to sit alongside the door and operate pedals left-footed in total comfort! Also perfect seat height for neither falling into/climbing out of or too big a climb up. Finally, powered side doors. So useful.

To change the sparkplugs on the V6, first remove the windscreen wipers. But actually if you follow the instructions it's not hard to do.

HGF can be an issue but OHV lump so not total misery, plus it's more to do with shitty British owners than any inherent failing of the cars.

I had the earlier model as well, but that wasn't quite as good on fuel. Think they look better, though.

Only get a multipla if you want to feel the rear axle break as you drive on to the ferry / tunnel

Rear axle all good on my wife's 165k example

Well after tapping you all up for a load of excellent suggestions, they've all said that they don't mind being stuffed 3-abreast in the back of my Mondeo, so for the time being that's the plan. I'll take it up to the garage tomorrow when I go to collect the ex-WW 106 (which failed its MOT on a ripped CV boot and blowing exhaust) and see if they can diagnose why there's a clonk from the front end every time one wheel goes over a bump. I'm very much hoping it's the ARB bushes, apparently a reasonably common thing with them.
