So went round to visit my mother and she casually mentioned her neighbour was being messed around by the local scrappy who were supposed to pick his car up today.

This being the spotless corsa I've often seen parked. I  peered out the window at it and ran the reg number through the MOT checker. December MOT. Hmm.

I asked why it was being scrapped and was told simply that he had bought a new car and didnt want the hassle of selling it.

I knocked the door. Its in great nick. Blowing exhaust flexi, otherwise absolutely fine.

Mine for 100 quid. Ill fix the exhaust and stick it on gumtree and hopefully make myself a drink.

Good for you Mr CortinaDave.  Another goal against the materialistic chuck it away society.

You might do quite well.............

97k. Not a mark on it. Few advisories on the last test but nowt serious.

Theyve got a few quid and so just didnt want the bother of toothless gumtree mongs I guess. The fact the scrappy didnt turn up today is great news for me, and also that someone will get a genuinely really nice wee car that otherwise wouldve been wasted.Chuffed

Was looking for a 205 diesel to take on a one way scoot to the surfing/fishing coast road south past Whitehouse (CasaBlanca to yo foreigns) and then park somewhere and  fly back. This looks suitable as a non 205 diesel If I get my finger out.

I've had a couple of free Escorts off a married couple like that ( a few years back obviously). One was a rotten maroon C-plate MK3 3-door 1.3 bogger that I swapped for a pair of monster speakers for my house. The friend I swapped it with plopped-up the arches, rattle canned it black, cut the springs down and fitted Cloverleaf wheels and an XR3i interior. Actually looked pretty good from 10 feet away.

The second was a 1.3 Pop MK4 5-door with faded paint but utterly, completely rust free. The MoT tester I sold it too could not believe there was no rust, anywhere. Served his girlfriend well for a few years before vanishing.

Folk are far too happy to chuck stuff away, I am from parents who make do and mend.

I can remember those things rolling out of our showroom new.  Amazing to think they're being thrown away now.  The later ones aren't bad cars.

I had one brand new on a Y. Was nice but turned into a twat. Two new gear linkages. Two.new wiper motors. Other stuff I can't remember and Mrs Shrimp ran it nearly out of oil.

Did take us all round England and Ireland on holiday. Took it to France once too for the day.

Y293KUG sold it for about £3000 to someone from Dewsbury in 2005. Long since dead now.

dislike throwaway society but can completely empathise with the hassle of selling an old used motor

I drove up to Aberdeen today and its absolutely fine. Decided to go for a new pipe rather than bodge the exhaust given its only 40quid.

Its missing a wheeltrim and needs a polish as the paints a bit dull here and there... That is literally all I can fault. I've insured it for a couple of weeks so I can run about in it while I Gumtree it.

Gave this a polish, replaced the missing wheeltrim, new exhaust flexi and fixed the radio aerial.

Listed it on Gumtree late last night and it was driven away by a delighted buyer at lunchtime today for 550 quid. She didn't even haggle.

EPIC WIN.
