There are so many of them about you can afford to be fussy.

Take it from someone who has been down this road more times than I care to remember

BUY THE BEST ONE YOU CAN AFFORD.

You will be better off in the long run, financially and mentally!

Or the other alternative I have heard is buy one of the cheapest. Run it for a bit and run it cheaply (but safely). Then can go buy a good one once you know what to look and expect.

Not sure if that's very useful method with classic cars though.

I've been following this and I think you need to go in with your eyes open, look at a few and then just go for it when you get a good feeling about the one you're looking at. There will be a few surprises so keep a slush fund handy. You can't predict every eventuality beforehand.

I like this one. A bit crusty in sections but the MOT history looks alright and it's been regularly used most years. Colour is nice too.

That looks a good honest car to my untrained eye. I like the colour too. I wonder how much it will go for?

Fresh MOT, no bids but the mods look fecking horrible. Is this a chrome bumper one originally or rubber? I'm guessing rubber from the awful bumpers.

I wonder how hard it would be to fit rubber bumpers back on again?

Could the mods be easily removed? It might out others off too which might to help keep the price down a bit.

Ergh just realised wire wheels. To convert to rostyle requires new hubs and a different back axle + fitting. Cba with wire wheels and their crap handling + balance issues.

Shame.

Does any one on here know? I suppose there probably is not too many people would want to go from Sebring to rubbers :D

If you cba with bad handling then maybe an mgb isn't for you

This would be okay for a grand:

On the road, being used, a ten footer as well. Break your MGB duck with something MOT'd, probably quite reliable and with which you won't be too precious. I doubt it'll go much more than a bag tbh.

£660 with 5 hours to go.

Solid driving MGB GT with an MOT, just what you're after.

That looks pretty good, you could probably increase its value just with a day spent cleaning and polishing!

I agree with the Reverend here, buy for a grand ish, get the summer out of it and if it is a dog you will get at very least half your money back and you will know what you want and where to look as well.

Also if you love it then you are not half a billion quid into it after finding 'issues'

Have drive in one FFS.

You might hate it.

Rubber bumper, chrome bumper, no bumpers, anything!

I can learn to love anything. :)

I am tempted, even if the wife will absolutely kill me. However its a long way off and not sure I could get up there before 20th July. Any shitters fancy a drive from Lancaster to Bristol in a couple of days if I win? :D

I have a feeling this MGB thing won't happen.

not sure I could get up there before 20th July.

Excuses excuses.  Still £660, 2 hours left.

If you're serious, you'll buy this and work out logistics - it's a day out of your life.

You can't deny it looks fricking minging. Yes a good clean, polish and some rattle can action may improve things, but the colour still looks like cat pee. Also the overdrive is borked. And I need to get it 3.5 hrs/210 miles back to here, which would be a day trip and this + next week are too busy for me to loose a day.

I've message that red one above with the dodgy sebring conversion on to have a viewing. Going by the bumpers, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes cheap.

This has just come up and looks possibly reasonable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGB-GT-reliable-runner-tax-exempt-7-months-MOT-leather-seats-/272745182170

I'm trying to chill out rushing getting one, as the summer season is coming to the close and so people are starting to sell summer cars. Cars I usually go for usually are pretty rare, so when I see one I want to jump quick. However loads of these were made and loads of them are still on the road. I know from previous experience, that around from now to September there seems to be a influx of people selling, but buyers are holding out for "winter bargains".

Once I jump and get this, I'll be pretty much wedded to it until after the winter.

It's probably sub 1000 quid, hence not being the ideal colour and having faults.

Bristol - Lancaster £60 odd, leave early and you'll be there at 10am, and home again in 5-6 hours on a Saturday.

Sound like you're talking yourself out of the idea.  :-D

Oops.

Not my favourite colour but has the chin spoiler I like and sunroof. MOT history suggests it hasn't been sat idle doing nothing for years.

Is it £1500-2000 better than the piss yellow one?

Posted

Doesn't the one with no bumpers have the/a chin spoiler? Lob some bumpers on and you'll be grand.

Posted

13 pages and still no Sherpa coop.

No point waiting for your prince at the money you're planning to spend, just get out there and kiss some frogs already.

I was thinking that. Especially comparing between the white and that one.

I wanted to have a look at it to figure out how mangled/hacked off the rubber bumper mounts are.

If someone said to me right now "yeah I'll deliver that for you" - even if it cost some monies, I'd throw a bid in.

Posted

Still an hour and 10 minutes to go. Not worth bidding until near the end tbh. Awkward finish time could mean it doesn't go for too much more.

Posted

£660, an hour to go.

FFS, throw a bid in. £800. You can always find time to pick it up. Or bank transfer the owner and pick it up when he's back or leave keys/V5 with a neighbour.

If you're serious about this, get it bought. Fucking MOT till Feb, on the button MGB for less than half the price of the other tonced up P38/Isopon/Sebring shit.
