Nope Proton not nicked, though I have been driving it like I stole it. Negatory on the 800. Also this is my estate thread there is a more appropriate thread relating to the Proton, no point in senselessly clogging up this thread if we can help it. Then again half of it is a discussion of the relative merits of salting roads so it probably doesn't matter at this point lol.

Hi guys and gals just a heads up about what will be happening with my overdue write up of my Cedric trip. This weekend I should be able to start finishing it, I have decided to rewrite each days post starting from day one adding extra details and photo's where appropriate. Some days reports are pretty much spot on already but others are a bit sparse, then back story will be dealt with separately afterwards.

Friend of mine had a Cedric estate, we used to call it:' the Jig' as it got used so frequently to pull bent cars back into shape. It was a right tough old bugger and great fun. I had a 260 C (it may have been a 280...) back in the late 70s and I loved it. Loads of toys but it wasn't as good (sorry) as the Toyota Crown that preceeded it and the other that replaced it.

I really loved Japanese cars back then and wouldn't have a British heap at any price!

Cedric went for his first and most likely last MOT this morning. I was expecting a fail as did zero prep as evidenced by the fact the Fanta bottle is still present but I wanted a list to work to. The place I used are very classic friendly and I have been going here for years. I learnt studded tyres are not compatible with brake testing rollers so the tester had to bust out his vintage Tapley meter and go for a road test, he took the longer route and pronounced himself satisfied with the brakes.

The only unexpected fail point was the steering pivot point play, the ARB I knew about as it was perfect until I crashed it driving from Harwich to Birmingham lol, embarrassing :(

I may or may not get these fail points rectified in the free retest period but if not it's just another £40 for an MOT.

You really didn't prep- did you!

Idler will be the largest issue. Get it off Asaph to get it overhauled ( unless you got a spare in that huge pile?)

Posted

Don't think there is a spare.... Eddie Rattley on Facebook said if it is rubber bushed there will always be play in it and it will be failed when it really shouldn't be.

No rust at least......

Exactly, it was mint underneath. Rust prevention at the top of the jobs list so it stays that way :)

Yeah you are totally correct, I found out the next day when I went back for the bicycle that it was a C rather than a B, should probably figure out how to put in a caption at that part of the video lol.

Of what I understand the car underwent a nut and bolt restoration in Finland.

Yeah that's right, will be covered in the back story, I got sent 6 pictures before I agreed to buy it that instantly made my mind up.

I had one of these was, a 260c estate I think. Same body as yours in white. Went like the clappers on the motorway. Does yours have the electric side window on the estate part for shopping? This was about 1992. Rust got it I really wished I had restored it. Fantastic car.

It does but it's not currently operational, it came with some rather rusty parts that used to be in the correct place but I guess the guy who restored the car didn't feel the need to repair it. I will be attempting to make it work again at some point though, the keyhole to operate it is still present and correct so that's a start at least.

Yea its a fab accessory - forget sat-nav or assisted parking. Its great at the supermarket. It was designed for US supermarkets where they would deliver direct to the car I think.

I doubt it was anything to do with America, as this model was never sold there.

I think it was just for ease of access to the loadbay from the pavement in a crowded city environment. The pre-facelift estate had the more American style of tailgate with a drop-down rear window.

Posted

It was done because it's a brilliant idea and all other estate makers should be ashamed for not having copied it.

It was done so an Englishman from the future could reinstate it for his greyhounds exclusive use, following fevered discussion with like-minded car buffs.

BMW come a close second with the split tailgate on touring models. Our hound likes to hang her head out of ours as we get our boots on to take her for a run. Unfortunately, I can’t find any photos of this, so I’ll include an example of our hound in my fiancées car (fitted with an uninspiring tailgate) - evidence of why greyhounds prefer BMW and Cedrics.

I am genuinely embarrassed about how long it is taking for me to get around to finishing my collection mission write up :( While you are all patiently waiting have a photo dump of pictures Jani had gathered from the internet and came on the USB drive.

I very much want to get the rear window working for this exact reason!

Look how much attention it's receiving, if I get any less than this at shows I will feel cheated :)

My car is currently badged as a JDM car everywhere except the rear where it says Datsun 2000 rather than Cedric as here. Hopefully I can get this Cedric emblem to make it 100% JDM and Cedric!!!!!

I think I prefer this black Cedric badge rather than the silver one further up the page.
