Some Ruhrside Spots

Recommended Posts

In Essen for a week - just a few spots if anyone is still interested in cars.

Monza was parked out side a restaurant.

The Skoda and Omega were parked inside a test centre yard.

Taunus is the first 2 Dr I've seen-not quite as good close to as there are a few brush painted areas.

What d'ya mean, "if anyone is still interested in cars"? You bet we are! Moar please, esp if they're like the middle pic!

These are on the Rhine rather than the Ruhr. The two Citroens were parked in the next line to us.The Rolls 20/25 is on display at the entrance to a riverside beer garden and is in a fairly deteriorated condition with fake chickens inside, as seen in the third pic.Or maybe not fake but stuffed?

More over the next few days.

Haha! The pic of the Rolls is from Galerie Burghof on the Kaiserswerth in Düsseldorf, isn't it?

I've been there.

Do they still have those yank tanks overgrown with ivy?

Is that a Carlton/Omega in the distance behind the Skoda?

That Monza is weapons grade class.

I've managed to persuade myself it has a manual gearbox for extra grins.

Are those Taunuseseseseses front-wheel-drive?

Yes it's Galerie Burghof.Didnt see any Yank cars but didn't notice an ivy bush either.Taunus is 1.5 fwd with a German Ford V4 , apparently much stronger than the English V4.I have the same engine in a Saab 96.

Front drive V4 with unusual cooling arrangement. I had the bigger 17m once and I liked it.

Some kind of American van-GMC

Also the Ford Equivalent of a Grand Voyager don't know what it's called - couldn't get too close as it contained a family.

Woohoo! A Calibra, in an unusual colour too.

Is there still no mention of the Dambusters raid at the Möhnesee? I was there a few years ago, and despite overhearing loads of people talking about where the bomb hit, the direction from which the Lancs approached the dam, etc. there wasn't a single word about the raid in the official blurb at the site :-D

The Edersee dam is a bit more honest, you can even quite clearly see the repaired section:

This Toledo seen in Gelsenkirchen yesterday is not particularly exciting but as I took it  a Junkers Ju52 Trimotor flew overhead making a wonderful noise.

Regarding Möhnsee there is an information board about what it calls the disaster. Also you can buy a copy of The Dambusters at the kiosk.

Ah OK, it wasn't there a few years ago (or I didn't see it, if it was).

I did buy the book "Wasserkrieg – 17. Mai 1943; Rollbomben gegen die Möhne-, Eder- und Sorpestaudämme" from the kiosk though, it gives a very interesting insight into the event from the German perspective.

Yes, apparently people were drowned in their cellars as far away as Essen.

They are awesome, always surprises me they didn't sell a lot more over here, perhaps they were a bit expensive new.

IIRC one Mr Steve Brookman of this parish has mentioned that they can suffer a spot of surface* rust.
