Ah shame, just too far for my colleague who is living with his dad in maidstone after he dumped his girlfriend and commuting to marlow 5 times a week to pop and grab one weekend and bring it to me... Isn't RichieG that way?

If it can be got to me by wednesday the 25th I could ask my Dad to take it to peterborough, sure my gran would let it sit in her garden until it could make it's way more northwards?

Or if it can be pushed to the left to cornwall/bristol I'm going there this weekend.

It's not super-urgent, so if Gary_Cox or someone south-eastern is coming up to Chumley, that could work...

Posted

YES we're still on for Sunday.

Great, see you Sunday then. If we're feeling really clever we might even find the source of the leak from WIll's one :)

Grand!

On a related matter, I could do with a hand man-handling that Lada monster truck of his down and into the bottom barn, which would involve starting up his BX and shifting it about on its bump stops. Should be fun.

It'll be useful to have a few extra men on the job.

Will we need to make our own insert for the bumper?

Today's news:

These landed.

Bump for tomorrow, anyone free to roll up from 10 or 11am, or whatever. Until whenever.

There will be cake - Mrs_KJ is baking now.

The only thing I ordered which hasn't come is the air filter... but it's only a simple foam sleeve, so I'm sure we can improvise one for this weekend with a j-cloth or similar.

Edit: it's not cake - choc brownie. Yum.

I can't imagine anybody needs encouraging but I can think of worse ways to spend a Sunday than fiddling with a BX, eating brownies and maybe drinking a cuppa made by Mrs Krujoe, contrary to what Krujoe said to me, his Mrs makes a great tea!

I just had a piece with a hot brew. Lovely.

If the tray survives the night, you too may experience its scrumptiousness.

So, who's coming today?

Jaz?

Dan?

Mark...?

I've just got in from a fine day's fettling (and re-organising some of Will's variously incapacitated vehicles!) and progress has been made*, although I am now knackered. I forgot to bring a camera, but I'm sure Joe will be along soon to fill you all in on today's goings on.

Oh, and for those of you who couldn't make it, MRS_KJ's brownies are indeed the nuts :)

So, there wasn't actually much wrong with the old sender as it turned out, but it looked like it needed special formed hoses to make the bend from vertical to across the top and down. They had been replaced with plain pipe, which probably kinked, necessitating the bodge we had before.

Both hoses have been replaced, and with new* clips and Tim's sender and new* gasket, the whole thing is much tidier, and the back seat can now be put down into place.

With the steel fuel lines unclipped, crustiness was evident.

So this happened.

My mate Mike turned up (he who had the Ignis, and now the RAV4 from AS), so the three of us spent a minute* pushing and heaving wor Will's Niva truck and BX about, and neatly into the bottom barn.

So the three of us are aching and thoroughly jiggered after that effort.

Jaz made good progress up front, whilst I was faffing and scratting about at the back:

Refreshed carb re-fitted with new filter.

Also, because of this:

The old coolant was refreshingly un-minging:

You're welcome. I know you lot love any kind of bucket shot.

I like the look of it all guys. Brilliant work!

I especially like the look of that Niva :)

The fuel took some pulling through, but it ran nicely once started. I don't think we got it fully bled when we got some water in it, so probably not warmed up right and running without choke yet, but we're on the right track.

post-1381-0-01329200-1498428165_thumb.jpg

Some of this rusty exhaust water had seeped from here, but we couldn't feel a blow.

post-1381-0-12026300-1498427940_thumb.jpg

However, there's a good blow from the top of this joint, so that needs some love before a test.

post-1381-0-82802500-1498427908_thumb.jpg

And here's something new we noticed, but we'll try to un-see it for the test.

I think, like the windscreen, that'll scrape through with my man. Fingers crossed.

Have I forgotten to mention owt, Jaz?

If it ever comes down south,  I have a mate who is ex autoglass who would do the necessary for beer tokens.

It's still got exhaust diarrhoea? Bloody hell. Glad to see things soldiering on.

I think that pretty much covers it. You have reminded me to throw open the question of the sticky beam switch, though: HBOL simply says you 'gently prise' the switch cluster apart, but I ain't prising no unobtainium 35-year old switchgear apart without first taking advice from someone who has done it before!

Any thoughts, chaps?

I'm not sure really... one minute I was at CASTLE_CLELAND, the next I was driving home with this in the back of the car

Aye, it's a grand spot.

I think that pretty much covers it.

Amongst my pics was a reminder of summert we forgot!

post-1381-0-50154300-1498853288_thumb.jpg

This thing has clearly been balls-deep in underseal for decades, but there were a few spots worn thin by belly scrapes or an occasional botched jacking. Jaz brought a can of spray tar stuff nearly as old as the car with him, I snapped on a rubber glove, and it did the job just grand, covering the bald spots. Which is nice.

Next, we need to bleed the coolant properly, and get it properly up to temperature. We've yet to have it running smoothly off choke, so fingers crossed for that.

Also, that exhaust join needs some attention as we said.

And this needs fitting:

post-1381-0-72887900-1498896199_thumb.jpg

That's a two-minute job, that one.

I hope to be able to have a couple hours on it this weekend; does anyone want to come and have a play for a few hours on Sunday (tomorrow) afternoon?
