You'll probably get £120 for the cat off it when it eventually expires so will break even when it eventually shit's itself, bargainous price that Bub

A couple of years ago maybe, more like £70 or £80 now

Also this may well have a manifold cat so £30 if it does but only worth removing if the car is scrap.

Im just going to leave this here....

I did manage to grenade the gearbox though

Could the gearbox have died due to general wear and tear and mileage or a direct result of the tuning done?

Pricing up alternators is proving expensive, brand new one is just over a ton cheapest I can find. One of the reasons why I got the car so cheap though so not a big issue.

Possibly both - it was on 175K when the box went bang ( well actually it lost 2nd then 4th then went bang).

The 90 seems toog to handle between 110 and 120 bhp but push it more than that and bits of it seem to suffer - the clutch being one item that doesnt like a lot more power than that.

The internals between the factory 90 and factory 110 are different too - the 110 is the same beast that can also be found in 120 and 136 guises - so whilst some extra oomph is possible with the 90, its best not to go too mad with it - the simplest method is the decat and blank off the EGR ( both will cause the EML to light but it can be switched off) then lob on a simple "tuning" box which will boost the fueling  and give an extra 10 or so horses. It does make a difference to how quickly it picks up. - somewhere I have photos of me fitting the Dragon box to the Xantia and where to plug it in.

The Hdi seems a bit gutless below 1800 to 2000 rpm, then the turbo does its stuff and it takes off like a scalded cat - even the 1900kgs of large brick shaped people carier that is the wifes HDi can show a clean pair of heels if the loud pedal is prodded with some enthusiasm - switch off the stability control and it drives "interestingly" round the twisty lanes of Borwick, Docker and Kirkby Lonsdale whilst leaving the countryside in a cloud of black smog.

<looks outside at Blingo...>

:D

If I could have found a decent facelift Mk1 Bingo ( you know the one with the less jazzy interior and the big headlights) when I was after replacing the Micra i'd have had another - our old one was bloody brilliant. Better than the C8 if Im utterly honest. I wish Citroen had done a 7 seat option on them. But hey ho.

I plugged the Dragon box in on that too - but it didnt work as the Bingo had Siemens 'lectrics whereas the Xantia had Bosch ones. Seems you need a different box, or remap ( which is what the Picasso had).

Talking of7 seats, online to get them for mine, the mounts and belts are there, seats are awol

I thought the internals were the same? I know the 110 has an intercooler and dmf though and maybe different injectors and/or turbo and the 136 is a 16v head? What was the engine like in yours at 175k?i do see what you mean regards being flat at 1-2k buy it is very economical just pottering about like I drive. Also, my car is a bosch setup which is apparently the better setup.

110 has inter cooler & DMF

Also different cam profile, con rods (strengthened) and lined cylinder bores on the 110 - 120 bhp upwards got the chain driven 16v head DW10 varient ( I mean thats madness that - one belt then a chain to drive the other head)

ECU operated wastegate on the 110 ( pressure actuated on the 90)

Clutch also different

Thanks for that info mate. I'm really liking it. Missing the ice cold air con though!

I thought the 110s had VGT turbos?

Anyway 8v HDi 90 is a great lump, 175k up in my blingo now, other than the sump rusting through and doing the cambelt the engine has been fine.

Main woes have been lots of bush/balljoint/drop link replacements and rusty brake pipes throughout, not sure how much of that is shared with the 307 though.

And you can 'delete' the vacuum egr with a golf tee or a wood screw, no lights on dash

I may look into doing this to my Xantia...

Mrs was most disappointed her vectra died. She had it over 4.5 years and it wanted for nothing. Me on the other hand, I'm used to swapping cars over. So nice to be in a French diesel estate again though.

Nice one Bub. You've certainly got a nice clean fleet there.

Long days? Yep, had a few of those recently.

I must say my cars seem to be looking better each time and lasting a bit longer too!

Can anyone tell me if this 307 is pre canbus? Looking for a towbar and really don't want to knacker anything up by just wiring in the lights like usual or if I need a dedicated wiring harness.

I've had my 2007 90 Hdi estate for six years and i have to say its been great. The electrics have only recently gone a bit wonky and i had a front spring go pop last week but thats about it.The only pain in the arse is the spare wheel carrier.

I got the spare out no probs, but its got a cable that hoists up the wheel, but i can't find the cable.

Has it shat itself when i undid the bolt?

Posted

I can't help to, sorry. Mine hasn't even got a spare wheel!

Aren't these all canbus?

Quick Google says pre facelift (older than 55 plate) are vanbus rather than canbus.

You can still wire them in on a CANBUS car - just take the feed from the light cluster itself (thats what I did with the C8 and its never shit the bed) as the last part of the feed works as normal with proper 12v supply and all that shizzle.

Ah OK cheers. I begrudge paying over 300 quid for a job I can do myself and I can solder tol

Poor man's 306 HDi estate. It looks pretty good for the money.

Still regret selling my 306 HDi estate in 2014. It went like stink with the 120hp remap.

I even fitted a mid section as a back section on the exhaust, resulting in a freer flowing exhaust, and the funky side exit!

Was there any difference noticeably with the remap? It's something I've considered when towing if the torque would be noticablr
