Crownhill in Plymouth. I’d like to think the Jag had been px’d against a new Simca.

Gravesend again.

The old lido, date unknown. Very early Horizon and a Datsun for maximum shite points.

Top of King St, Christmas in the mid-late 1970s given the snowflake on the lamp post, fresh green short-pod London Country National and the Maidstone & District Bristol VR.

Northfleet High Street, nearing the end of Routemaster operations for London Country where I grew up given the destination blind of Valley Drive in small letters. Plenty of rammel for sale on the car dealership inc a Cortina IV and a Victor/VX FE.

I don’t remember Routemasters in Gravesend, or London Country for that matter. (Lived in the area 1960-90), just Greenline (was that as far from London that they went?) and of course M&D who had a virtual monopoly in a large part of Kent.

Gravesend was served by LT until 1969/70 with green RTs and RMs, then the buses transferred from LT to LC, routemasters being replaced by AN class atlanteans from 1979; deregulation in ‘86 when LC southeast was branded Kentish Bus before the Mighty* Arriva took over in the late 1990s, by which time the RMs were back in London, preservation or cannibalised and the Atlanteans not long having been withdrawn on the core 480 route. Big old Hoo-ha in the 80s whe KB renumbered all the routes to massive disapproval from the public and after a couple of years the old route numbers were reinstated.

There were a good number of bus operators in Kent, particularly after deregulation; LC, M&D & East Kent being the main three before 1986, but loads of independents with small routes and contracts springing up until Arriva got their hands on most of the county, Stagecoach taking the East Kent routes. Independents I remember in Gravo are miniMetrobus, Black Horse, Bexleybus had 1 short-lived route on a charter, Grey-Green, Kent Top Travel, Nu-Venture, Kingsferry and RedRoute all having routes from Greater London into Kent or around the county.

After my dear Mum's passing a few weeks ago, we had to trawl the photo albums for some nice pictures of her.  Some old rammel was present too, including this from 1991.  We were going on a rare summer holiday, and were collected by Dingle Bus Minibus to Southampton.

Points of interest:

1 - The rear quarter of my Father's Sierra LX.  I completely forgot it had those trims.

2 - The 'Only Fools' font on the side of the van.

I may scan them properly when I can be bothered.

A young Identity at the wheel.

Squint a bit and that could be a freshly-minted New Town like Crawley or Harlow...

One of the many new neighbourhoods built in the immediate post-war years. The streets seen in this picture are named after members of the resistance who died in the war.

A Tempo Hanseat, small German three wheeler. For small businesses in the early 50's this was typically their first motorized vehicle, the one to replace the horse & cart.
