Ford Puma 1.7, Slightly Broken, Sold

Evening all,

I'm selling my Puma as I could do with something rather more practical now.  It's been great fun and will be missed, it's not in bad condition at all for one of these but I've had it since September last year so it's time for a change.

It's a 2001 on a Y plate, 105,400 miles which will increase a bit as I'm commuting in it.  Current MOT until May, see the end of this post for details on that.

Good:

Engine and gearbox are absolutely spot-on, it drives very well.

Good, matching Toyo tyres all round

Serviced recently including a new fuel filter.

New heater control valve

Tidy interior, original 6 CD multichanger

Working air conditioning

Bad:

Small oil leak from rocker cover

Rusty bits - see photos.  Small hole in O/S door seam, scabby O/S rear arch with a hole at the bottom corner/sill, small blebs on N/S rear arch and a couple of small rust blobs here and there.

Remote central locking a tad temperamental, sometimes takes many button presses to unlock

Electric wing mirrors don't work, switch has been changed but no improvement.

I can put a new MOT on it, which will include getting the rusty bit at the bottom corner of the O/S sill/arch and the hole in the O/S door seam welded up or it can go as it is. Shiter's pricing applies before it goes to eBay.

Pricing:

With new MOT and welding repairs, £450

With MOT until May, as-is, £350

Or...roffle (Puffle, I think) for £7.50 a ticket with a year's MOT, including the welding repairs.

It's currently got a leak from the power steering, a pipe has split hence the oily patches on the road in the photos.  That's going to be repaired this week.

The car's in Barnstaple, North Devon and is 5 minute's walk from the train station for your collection convenience.

And yes, I am aware that it needs a wash and the photos are not flattering, the weather doesn't help, nor the setting but it is shown 'warts and all' and will be squeaky clean for its new owner.

Actually, I suppose I might entertain the idea of a raffle if there was interest enough?  Â£6 a ticket would do it.

If it was £7.50 per ticket with 12 months MOT and the welding done I'd have two (28 & 45)

I would buy this if nearer. I just simply don't have the time any more for antics when doing a 70 hour week.

Good luck however you sell it.

Alrighty then, let's see if this works.  Â£7.50 a ticket, fully MOT'd.

Sorry guys, raffle is off as it needs far too much work.  The high pressure power steering pipe is rotten in several places and needs changing, secondhand ones aren't readily available and new ones are £208 plus connectors, plus fitting.  It also needs a pair of front tyres and a wheel alignment as it's scrubbed off the inside edges (rather annoyed I missed that), the welding as mentioned and an MOT.  I won't see much change from £300 from that lot, so it's not happening.

It still has MOT until May 23rd and does run and drive very nicely if anyone wants to take it off my hands for £250, it's going on Facebook tonight as well.  I'd like it gone pretty soon though, a replacement is needed.

Shiny!  Just took this for a thorough scrubbing at the local car wash, it's now squeaky clean inside and out.

Driving this back from the garage this morning, I almost convinced myself it was worth me doing the repairs but even if I had that amount of cash spare, it just doesn't make sense for me to do it.  It is great to drive, quick, responsive, feels very planted and solid with a lovely precise gearchange.  I will miss it.

There have been secondhand high pressure pipes on ebay for about £50 in the past, you might be able to get one off a breaker.  Doing the work yourself with a good used item would probably make this a fairly economical repair.  It can be driven, just needs regular topups.  You'd probably be OK on the motorway as it only drips when the steering's working (so does tend to dribble when manoeuvring at low speeds) but doesn't use much on a straight road.

Oh, almost forgot, it has a 99% fully functional heated windscreen, working air con and a leather steering wheel plus a decent set of matching Toyo tyres (although the fronts are apparently scrubbed on the inside edges - the main tread is quite deep still though and I've been told they're perfectly safe but probably wouldn't go through an MOT.

It's about to go on eBay and Gumtree, shiter's discount applies.

Sold on eBay for near full asking price.  Buyer's even made contact, winner!

Hmm.  Mildly concerning, he's now asking if it has any MOT and if so, when til.  The MOT details are on the listing (twice, particulars and description) and surely that would be something to ask before making an offer?  Oh well, if he pays and takes it away, I'm not complaining.
