There was a mk5 cortina "s" in Australia & new Zealand.

The mk2 Granada changed from iS to just Injection at the facelift.

Late taunus TC3 S pack had the 14inch clover leafs.

Not quite, there was, from 80-82 the S pack available on 2.8iGL ( an example of which I've never seen ) and Ghias.

Adw's post on these is what started Stormee's confusion. Something that my explanation didn't seem to help, even with a picture of VHK491S in The Sweeney.

Here's it's sister, another 2.8i S in a Giant Test with a CX

Note the lack of driving lamps.

"Driving Lamps"

WTF else would they be for?!

You can tell I was indoctrinated by the monthly ' Ford Cars' brochure from the age of 11 until about 25 !

Driving lamps in Fordspeak meant above bumper round lights wired into the main beam as opposed to the under bumper rectangular fog lights.

With Grannys the more lights on the front the higher the spec.

Whereas today the greater the number of lamps the higher the Barry factor?

Phwoarr Gas Shocks!! Does anyone remember when it was in vogue to fit Monroe Gas Shocks?

I remember my (motor factor) dad bringing home mini-shocks on keyrings from Monroe!

Astra E - the only trim level to have penny pinching round headlights:

Not a trim level, but remember the pointless saloon versions of the Mark 1 Astra?  Looks virtually the same as the hatchback, but less practical!

Mark 2 Granada Consort, 2.0 or 2.3.  Seems to be a low spec L model with fancy paintwork and "sports" wheels:

(Don't know when this dates from because I stole the image from Ebay)

Whether the 2,8i S is pre- or a facelift model. And if sold in Germany (maybe a Swiss model).

Pre facelift and yes it was:

There also was a MKI 2-door in "S-Tuning":

Don't know if this was a one off or if they made a Harlequin in this shape

Yes the mk1 Astra saloon was a bit of an oddball..

Not sure where the term Astra-E has come from though.  Mk1 Astra was Kadett-D, mk2 was Kadett-E and the mk3 Astra was Astra-F (when Opel dropped the Kadett name across the board).

E in this instance was the trim level, not the model generation. Vauxhall also had E trim levels of Viva and Chevette. Presumably E for Economy.

I must say the Mk2 Granada is one of those designs that looks great even today.

I'm craving for a pre facelift 2.8 Ghia at the moment but they are getting so expensive, might be tempted to sell both of mine for one nice Mk2 though.

I never understood the saloon mk1 Astra either

It's copying the Golf-concept without the hatch. Thank Opel!

That Mk1 black Granada Ghia EX. is stunning. Which target-group did they have in Mind? Looks like having rear darkened windows...

Thanks for reminding me, my Fiesta Quartz was the same.

These 2 lights were in the top centre of the speedo. No big deal, simply reacted to the throttle position. VW had another attempt to educate the driver to save fuel by adding a shift-LED with a MPG/l/100, vacuum-operated gauge.

The ecno-lights were avl for 81 in low eng size fiesta,escort1.1/1.3,cortinas1.3/1.6, L trim or less.

The festival, favorit & holiday seemed to be popular nomeculture in early 80s continental Ford's.

So with the economy lights did they come woth the 3 plus e gearinob, and was the gearing different too?

It's been a while, and those two features were not neccesarily linked!

Back in the 80s "Motor" ran a spoof review of the "Mini Mornington Crescent" in a 1st April edition. Probably a good name for a model, especially if it had features that no one could understand or figure out how they worked.

I had the astra club but with red trim instead of yellow. Never saw another one like it ☺️
