I saw a v8 ex-Ambulance LDV do a quarter mile.

No idea what time it ran as the timing at Santa Pod resets at 30s and it hadn't crossed the line, but it did shear an engine mount trying.

Really? Blimey. My 2CV managed it in 28 seconds, so only just before the cut-off. It was very boring.

I recall from reading the Which? car buying guide in the late '80s that the 2CV they tested did a standing quarter in 24.4 seconds, so yours must have lost a few horses over the years...

Ha!!!! Has anyone read that 'On Chesil beach' by Ian McEwan by the way? great story.

Tru dat.  See also "Dover Beach" by Matthew Arnold, "where ignorant armies clash by night", which sounds pretty much like Pistonheads.

I absolutely love BL brochures from this era as you'll find the picture is actually of an earlier round-headlight van, and their best artist in the office has genuinely drawn the facelift, square headlamps over the top..

Yup, they didn't even have the budget/ enthusiasm to go out and take some updated pictures, ffs!!!

I thought Freight Rover had been experimenting with Foxes glacier mints instead of glass...

I did do a double take when I saw that. Enlarging the image proves that although it is an excellent manipulation of the headlights, it still looks shit.

Quality van, I particularly like the gear lever with a link in it and of course the interior door handles and locks as fitted to Maxis.

Looks like you have had the greasing the front suspension answered.

I think I did mine roughly monthly.

I did get a cd rom from eBay which contained workshop manual for freight rover and LDV all models for about £3. Hopefully they are still available.

Hope you enjoy it.

Gear lever with a kink . Bloody autocorrect

I would be pumping grease into the kingpins regularly.attachicon.gif200Kingpin.jpg

Does it have steel front springs or the fabled composite springs?

While I was googleing for that front axle drawing I tried to download a Sherpa etc maintenance manual as also suggested by google.

Bad move! When the file unzipped it dumped a fatal bunch of toxic code which defeated Mcafee and Kaspersky and has killed first Chrome and now Windows.

Fortunately I was using the office internet computer which is connected only to the internet, on which no data is stored and someone else will fix.

This is obviously something that has been set up by the security services to thwart any dodgy groups plotting to take over the world using Sherpas

It was into a stonking headwind. Not ideal.

Truly SHITETACULAR - I am sure the cargo light of brightness is the same as the interior light in my A35. Ford & Slater are indeed still going, we get bits for our Daf from them, not sure if they flog the new LDVs.

Here they are, still on sale. I couldn't post a link so have copied and pasted. I had the CD rom and it was a bargain and very useful all the service requirements.

Chucked a new set of glow plugs in this today, replacing these:

only took about 45 mins. Now it starts first click every time. Friggin brilliant!!!!! Also drilled a hole in the rain gutter above the centre of the windscreen as the rain gutters permanently have a pool of water in them! Not surprised they rot out all the time. My next door neighbour who is a plumber came to admire it today, he's the first non-shiter to see it in a positive light!!!!!

In other news, I looked up the paint, its code JJQX 'DAF pacific blue'. Anyone know if there is an easy way to get that in a brushable form?

If you just get some cellulose mixed in a tin from Jawel or whoevers cheap on ebay it'll brush on to some extent.

I read 'On Chesil Beach', it actually made me dewy eyed!

Is this fine beast going to become your daily?
