French fancy, Citroen c2

Well I acquired this the other day from a manager at work. He knows nothing about cars but believed the headgasket had gone from info found online. He used it for over a year and 10k and hasn't overheated. I've been using it for a day or so now and in various driving situations it doesn't get over two bars on the display. Takes forever to warm up, coolant feels cold too but heaters are warm. I reckon stat has stuck but I can't see how it has hgf. It is a 1.1 sx trim with ac, remote lock, trip computer etc. Starts and drives lovely, no steam, smoke or misfire. I don't usually like tints and halfords trims but I think this suits it well. I see this as a modern so I expect a roasting!

Friend in his mid-forties had one of these in VTR flavour for years, until a couple of weeks back. He loved the thing, and it was uber reliable for him. Yours looks a tidy little thing - can't say I agree with the trims and seat covers mind.

Well bought?? Who said I bought it! Mot till June or July too and insurance is stupidly cheap. Means I can get work done on van now with out the concern of rushing putting it back together to get to work.

Gash trimz, otherwise quite tidy, and that split tailgate is ace!

Depending on the job, replacing the 'stat may well be worth a shot.

EDIT: The more I look at those photos, the more I notice. That gear stick doesn't look standard. It's almost a similar style to what all the JDM scene kiddies like.

Seat covers are on as the bloke didn't like the burnt orange colour if the seats, I'm a scruffy bugger so will keep them on to keep upholstery clean. Wheel trims aren't too bad, I've seen worse. Wouldn't mind so e alloys eventually.

I plan to sort stat when got the money, sorting van too.

Often wondered what these things were like as a vehicle for Mrs_Carlo, suspect it doesn't feel a lot like small Citroens that preceded it.  And of course the automatic versions are supposed to be awful.

Handles like a go kart. Better handling than my lowered saxo furio.

We use a diesel one of these as a "courtesy car" its a 2005 with 150k on it, great wee car.  :)

Great for conversion to lhd.

My vtr was utterly reliable apart from a failed starter motor a few days after purchase.

The robotronic semi auto is a pile of wank though....No wait I lie about reliability... the clutch servo failed too, leaving it stranded and unable to even be started.

It's a coil sprung trailing beam rather than the usual French torsion bars on the back so handling isn't as sharp as an older French hot hatch but a lot less likely to fire you backwards through a hedge.

I would have another no problems. Apparently the 1.6hdi vts is a belter...Faster than the pez version.

Never realised these had a split tailgate.

Looks nice, apart from the trims that need frisbee'ing into an industrial furnace.

These are a nice wee thing, although I can't imagine a 1.1 troubling many rice pudding skins - mine was a 1.4 8v and that was gutless.  Interior is a decent enough place to be though, as long as you're not sat in the back.

Nope, the van went when audi ate its cambelt and I needed a car, nothing now what has a towbar bar the van and I would not want to tow much with that. The 1.1 isn't too bad but I'm comparing to c15 van, needs working through the box but then again I'm used to the van pulling off in second and climbing any hill in fourth.

My girlfriends lad has had his 1.1 for a few years now and it does the job. It will bowl along at 80 but does drop quite a bit when it hits a hill. Even so it just does the job and has been 100% reliable only needing service work and a bit of welding to the sill where the paint had been damaged and let water build up behind. The reason we bought it for him was the low insurance and he was getting 44 to the gallon in his first year when it had the black box fitted for the insurance. I doubt it is so economical now he has discovered it can do 80 on the motorway. They are a nice little thing and so cheap now for a modern looking car.

Well I've took it for a run down the a38 today. Sits at speed very well. Variable power steering is quite weighted at speed but not stupidly light in town or on bends. I've picked up a thermostat, my mate gave me some rad flush and coolant so I'm going to clean it all out and replace coolant tomorrow so should get rid of the shit in the tank. If it comes back again it will be hgf but it's 30 quid for a full gasket set. Trying to not use the van that much at the minute due to time of year and a few little niggles I want to rectify before it's Mot is due in April.

Trip computer is averageing 40.3 at the minute. It does smell rich though and it's running cool so that will all be linked. Seats aren't the most supportive and the boot space and rear seats is hilarious. Can't fold rear seats forward unless front seats are all way forward but they have adjustable back rest and slide functions so can go for space or rear legroom.

For the price, you literally can't go wrong.  Good luck :)

I've gone with head instead of heart eddy. I like big cars, I like automatics but in the situation I'm in I need small, economical and easy to maintain and run. I've got the van for load lugging and work, wife has her vectra, no point having big motor I can't run. This c2 I'd have been mental not to take it on.

Posted

I've had my c2 for 18 months now, never had a FTP nothing has broke and it gets driven hard. Infact I am quite attached to it, gonna be gutted when I sell it in a few weeks, need something bigger. Great car.

Maybe it's just a temp sender?

That would explain the running rich (car thinks it's cold) and the temp gauge, the heaters show the coolant is getting warm too.

Posted

Heaters aren't red hot, coolant is cold so I'm going to flush it and replace stat. Then go from there. It's a brilliant little motor.

Posted

Your lucky you have a temp gauge, as half way through the 55 plate they got rid of the temp gauge all together.

Posted

This has the crescent rev counter, speedo and trip computer display underneath with fuel and temp each side of that and lights underneath. Centre display is clock, date and radio and also doors open messages. They got rid of some other bits mid face-lift too I think.
