Diesel scrapage scheme 2017

Let's guess it won't apply to modern diesels which are much worse polluters (depending on how you measure it) than the older ones perceived as being dirty

Are they drawing up an 'un-necessary air travel scrappage scheme'? What about 'cunts with greedy profligate lifestyles living in needlessly large houses', is a scrappage scheme for them on the cards? I doubt it.

There's a big place called China. Does exactly what the fuck it likes and bollocks to the rest of the world.

Britain, always coming up with some stupid scheme to cut this or stop that. Always half thought out and never does what it's meant to. Still looks good on the news and ticks a few boxes.

Say goodbye to cheap motoring bargains again, £150 beaters about to become £1000 "trade-in investments"

We're going to get all the "i want £1500 because i'll get £1000 trading it in for scrap" excuses. No mate, your diesel beater is worth £300 get over yourself. lol

Le sigh, same old toss comes up every 6 months, not even referenced to a real person or quote.

"The Telegraph understands" all the way through then at the end:

Department for Transport spokesman said there are currently "no plans" to introduce a scrappage scheme.

Never mind eh, lets go mad about this clickbait shite regardless.

I'm saying that I'll need more than an unreferenced article from known shitehawks before trying to sell my berlingo for a grand to someone who wants to scrappage it.

How about a massive tax on smashing up perfectly OK bathrooms just because the suites are the wrong colour?

And ripping out perfectly good kitchens because they are no longer trendy.

... moreover.... the Govt will be watching me, as I make my UB claim >> I have £4,650 lying around (I planned to spunk 5k on a DaySheea but was saved by ToMM© @ £350) :?

fucking YES.

"no more incandescent light bulbs. Its to save the children"

"no more vacuum cleaners over 1400 watts to prevent the ice caps melting"

"5p for a plastic bag."

Meanwhile, in China and India.....

For fuck's sake, do we really have to drag ourselves down to their level? How about leading by example, doing the right thing?

Posted

I don't think it's about dragging ourselves to their level more them to us.

The stupid phrase may be "every little helps" but when only a few are doing everything they can but the majority are doing nothing then it's pointless.

I will admit that China in particular are still mad for coal power plants, which are bad news, but on the car emissions side of things they are not far behind, with Euro 5 equivalent emissions regs just come into force for private vehicles and light trucks, with Euro 6 equivalent due shortly for trucks.

If I heard that they shat on the floor in a house down the street, I probably still wouldn't shit on my floor.

For all the hand wringing about pollution from transport the elephant in the room is animal agriculture, responsible for more co2 emissions than all transport combined including aviation.

Not to mention nitrous oxide and methane.

It wasn't that long ago that diesels were being pushed from on high with more favourable RFL rates, and these very same vehicles from that era will now be incentivised to be scrapped. The irony.

China is even investing in renewable energy sources such as solar power now too, it's only that idiot with the dead gerbil on his head that thinks coal is good now

So we have smog in London and now the politicians want to do something?

For a start get rid of the buses used for public transport - if I get stuck behind one of these when I cycle to work I have lung cancer by the time I get in.

This will never work because people can no longer access the finance you need to buy a new car.

It is a good point about diesel's quick transition from saviour to scapegoat, I would be cross about that if I was strapped up to the eyeballs for a new one.

Anyway in another, more capitalist way, here's another reason why a scrappage scheme is unlikely.

First one happened because of this:

_45511396_sales_figures_466.gif

Big need to get people borrowing money to pretend economy is healthy.

Currently:

Annual-registrations-2000-to-2016-1-900x

Joe and Joan Bloggs are quite happily financing modern shite without any incentives.

If I was Lord Voldemort, or whoever's in charge now, if I wanted to look like I was doing something about emissions I would do it through punitive measures like taxing the shit out of normal people wanting to drive their diesel into a city centre.

Look eco

Make munny

Win/win.

That might drop off this year though, when the new tax rules come in and most cars that were previously Free/£30 a year to tax for being low emission are now £140 a year min.

We have one, it's called VAT.

I always think news stories like this are particularly unhelpful when they just talk about 'emissions'. Emissions of what? CO2? PM10s? Curry farts? You don't say and you find out that you have pages and pages of people on the internet talking about global warming and China and cows when none of that is really that relevant.

So - diesel. On a global scale, not the worst thing as it has lower CO2 emissions than petrol, so less greenhouse effect, so less flooding in Bangladesh, Keswick etc. On a more local level though, it creates more NOx and particulates, which are what give you bronchitis, or a stroke, or black soot in your nose when you pick it after a day in London.

So, I can see a diesel scrappage scheme could make sense in 'environmental' (in the widest sense of the word, but mostly about health) terms if you aim it at people who drive in cities. Dollywobbler chopping in his XUD for a Tesla when he lives 50 miles from his nearest shop? Maybe less so.

Anyway, everyone loves a slightly paranoid rant, so carry on...
