COLLECTED: Rover 75 (Dealer 'Launch' Spec)

Ugh. I'm in Sussex later this week (I think) but don't think I'll have time to assist. Which is annoying, because I WOULD LIKE TO LICK THIS CAR. It is that delicious.

Times like this wish i lived in Brighton. Might be delivered minus interior and Y spokes however

Likewise! I am sitting about on me arse all day today but because of the tube strike, so connecting in town would of been a PITA + Southern Fail.  I would of been gone about 3 days. Although getting through the 70s style industrial action to collect a Rover would have been somewhat old school and rather nostalgic.

I can put you on to a couple of chaps I can recommended?

David +44 7487 742129 is probably your best bet.

Sadly he's in Newark so distracted will be prohibitive. Thanks for your help though BR

Hey well bought man! Alloys don't looks standard though. I'm down your area tomorrow for the evening because: work. Shame no one is heading down Brighton one way otherwise I'd fetch it for ya.

It's looking like Friday will be like this

3.50. Get up.

5.00. Start work in Watford.

1300. Start work in Kettering.

1900. Drive to St Albans.

1930. Train to Brighton.

2140. Hitch to Worthing.

2230. Drive home.

0015. Arrive home dead.

423 miles.

Jesus.

Friday won't be a good day for that. That's one of the Southern strike days I think. I realise it's a Thameslink from St Albans but I don't fancy your chances once you hit Southern territory.

If you do get as far as Brighton the 700 bus runs to Worthing quite frequently but again I don't fancy your chances if there are no trains and everyone is trying to get on the buses.

I've decided to give up a reasonably successful career on the MEEDYA to drive car transporters.  Seems you can earn £95 an hour.

I understand it's not around the corner, but seriously?  Â£275 to put a flipping trailer on the back of a Land Rover and do a 160 mile round trip?

Blimey.

He's not doing that job in three hours. Try it. Hitch up trailer. Drive to car (limited to 50 or 60); Find car; load (not 5 minutes if you're doing it properly); drive to destination; find destination address; unload; woolard shot; drive home. All limited to 50 or 60 with mandatory tacho breaks etc.

Yes, you'd do a 160 mile round trip in three hours in a nice comfy car on A roads or motorways, not towing. A true average of 35-40 mph is good going. The travel alone is at least four hours.

If he is going your job exclusively, the chances are that that's his day's work.

Is the £275 just for the geezer's time, then?  How much extra is he charging for hiring a vehicle and trailer, insurance and fuel? Or maybe it's not £95 an hour....

You're right, I was having a rant.

I wasn't looking for someone to go out and get a Land Rover on PCP, then hire an Ifor Williams Trailer, fill up on premium diesel and take out £1,000,000 worth of goods in transit insurance.  I was hoping to find someone with a spare morning who wanted £150. (With restecp)  If they had a transporter/trailer then great - if not then someone to hitch a lift back with in convoy.

I always exaggerate, mainly to amuse myself.  Apologies if I offended anyone.

Tried Thistle Towing via Facebook?

They're boss.

They were absolutely bloody first class.  However, because of the distance between Peterbosnia and Brighton they were cost prohibitive.  That said, Peterorough - Brighton - St Neots - Peterborough was cheaper than many quotes of Watford - Brighton - Watford.

Seriously your best and most cost effective way of doing it would be to get a cheap advance ticket (if the buggers aren't on strike) and pilot it back yourself.  I always get a return, they're usually not much more, just in case.  It's usually all part of the car-buying fun (?)

I think the only day that Southern rail are deciding to work this week is Thursday so you might have trouble with a train.

Agreed.

Doesn't ThamesLink run down to Brighton as well though?

Yes.  But every single "London W**ker" is using Bedford/Brighton this week.  The pressure on it is immense.

It's not happening, sadly.

Coach from London Victoria to Brighton?  There's still seats available on the 7pm one on Friday, £15.

Finally sorted.  Car arrives tomorrow.

Genuinely, thanks for everyone's help.  It's frustrating this one.  SO close, yet seemingly out of reach.

Not quite the collection thread I was hoping for, but meh!

Please get lots of pictures up. Also as said before be careful not to curb the alloys as the ys are plastic and they will break and fall out.

Once you get it home open the boot. Once open the fan should be on for the gps radio module and tv module. Make sure it goes off after a while. Make sure while the boot is open not to open any other doors etc.

It does take a little while so don't get scared.

I don't know if it's any help but if you can get to Croydon/Purley area I can drive you to Worthing. Potentially... depending on day/time etc.

Lemme know.

Insurance is cheap. You did well getting through to Peter Best - not even bastard Doris Stokes would have been able to get through to them.

I just filled in the form on the website and they called back.

I've not got a lot of choice when it comes to Classic Insurance by the looks of things.  Flux are a bunch of hoofwanking bunglecunts, FJ didn't see it as a Classic and Lancaster have the Sierra weren't that competitive.

Hopefully I can get through tomorrow to fire things up tho!

Every time I hear that word 'Lancaster Insurance' I start to shudder.  I hope your experience of them is a damn sight better than mine.

Full review in the coming days.

But it's a peach. Full documented service history from new with about an inch of invoices. All MOTs. Evidence of belts at 66k miles in 2009. Everything bar the fag lighter and interior light works. Leather is close to perfect. Sports mode is hilarious and achieved an indicated 39mpg up the M1.

Chuffed.
