Afraid to say my HDi isn't that great on fuel either tbh.

I do live in a hilly area and have, shall we say, a spirited driving style.

Posted

To be fair I did drive to my mum's 50 miles away twice, lots of long uphills to contend with, foot to the floor. If it could break 40MPG I'd be happier.

Posted

Thick question - is it running on the right oil?

HDis need a very specific low ash Total oil so they won't shit themselves / run like balls/ return decent merpgers.

Posted

Anus cakes, I thought it was a DV series HDi. Apologies.

Posted

It's not a great engine the DW8, I don't know why they bothered. Were they much cheaper than the HDi?

Posted

I seem to get 46/47mpg on the c15 mainly town driving. Doesn't make much difference either whether I drive like miss daisy or with a bit of vim and vigour. Low 30s does seem poor

Posted

The C15 is light but not that much lighter than a Berlingo, it should improve with a new 'stat I hope.

Posted

The aerodynamics should be better on a Berlingo too. I've a slab front above the cab!

Posted

I would at that price. Apparently wider wheels don't fit on the rear of the c15 though. Seen vtr alloys on a Berlingo van before and think they look ok

says yes.

I'm sure I've seen Berlingo/Partners on 205 1.9 GTi wheels before, that looked OK too.

Don't forget to budget another £20 for new wheel bolts. two different types for those wheels i think. I had some on my ZX, hard to find places to do wheel balancing on them as they have no centre hole.

Posted

Yep, I'm that fud who destroyed the threads on a 405 front hub using alloy wheel bolts on a pair of winter steelies.

Pretty sure I had that dw8 engine in a similar vintage 306 and yes it wasn't the best thing in the world, I never achieved much over 40mpg even on a run up to Heathrow and back from Swansea.

I found it ok for torque around town and upto about 70 on the motorway but the hills really killed it and it wasn't for me.

Nice turbo conversion would have made it a dream to drive, can't see how it could be anything longer than a weekend of graft and probably about £100/150's worth of full car. You'd even have a few spares then.

It's alright for my needs, largely pottering about locally, but the thought of an easy TD conversion is tempting, there's even a (non-functioning) electric chain hoist at work to hoist the engine out.

I was struck by an actual act of human kindness and decency today. There's a Peugeot Partner with a buggered rear axle sitting on someone's property nearby, I needed a few bits for mine so popped by. The Partner is being fixed but its axle donor Berlingo is getting scrapped soon, the old fella gave me the directions to its somewhat obscure location and I was told to help myself to any parts!

Bonus fucked R5 Turbo. "SCOTLAND IS NOT A POSTCARD".

My old speakers were in tatters, it sounds much better now.

Upgraded* ICE.

Also got spare thermostat bolts, a spare fuel filter housing, door courtesy light switch and a numberplate trim. Sadly no window bits because the scrapper is a posh one with electric windows.

Can you get solid rear doors for these, Lenny? Can't used to glazed ones after the Combo.

Posted

Has anyone got a spare plastic XUD filter housing? The DW8 one is impossible to modify for maximum heat and fuel flow without destroying it.

Posted

Top bombing Lacquer Peel! I like that, I don't know why, but I do.

I have also been to Thailand. Although balls and moustaches were not involved. I think.

A lot of them probably bleach their moustaches.
I think.

This van is "RUNNING LIKE A GREAT", really pleased with it. With a new thermostat fitted a full tank to empty has gone from a dire 360 miles to a reasonable 450 miles. Drove it to Edinburgh and back for a spontaneous encounter and it didn't miss a beat, even running on a strong veg mix. My desire to bin off the DW8 and fit a 1.9TD has eased. It doesn't have much spare power but it goes great once it's up to speed.

It taps like a maladjusted Simca engine though, that needs to be sorted (tappets re-shimmed), and I have no idea when the cambelt was last changed, not jobs I fancy myself at the moment but I want to book it in when I next get paid.

It's ideal for scaring people in badly driven soft roaders as well. Get outta my way!

Have you still got access to the spares one, chief? I could do with both door locks and key/s if poss. Happy to pay obviously.

That's not just a 5GTT, it's a 5GTT Raider - a rare limited edition. There's an easy £2k there even if it's gubbed.

Glad to hear the bum van is getting better.

No keys at the spares one but I can ask.

Posted

I'd be grateful. If you get them (key and lock) for nowt then I'm still happy to pay of course.
