check this out, a brand new mk4 XR3i?

Unusually this thing has been messed about with. Probably when the arse fell out of them in the early 2000 years. It's a brand new Ford Escort XR3i technical college training vehicle. Now when I was in tech, we had a fleet of brand new toyotas. A corolla, a new carina II, and a brand new Camry gli (all exactly the same silver - blue colour). However... we were allowed to put them on a ramp, weren't allowed to touch them with tools!

I'd say this escort was the same. I'd say it was cherished until it had little or no monetary value by the time it was 10 or 15 years old. It's and EFI car with the black rear spoiler. I would have thought a day would return it to standard, apart from ruined boot, bonnet etc with the added rally fixings!

It's cherished again. It's kept in the technical garage and kept clean.

Wonder what it would be worth? I know another place that has a new E30 316... No pics yet, but I'll see what I can do.

My lady friend snapped the escort in the college underground car park.

Not for sale but I'd thought I'd share it anyway!

Are they actually wanting shut of it? Go and speak to the assets department, they'll likely want £100,000 for it you never know you might catch somebody who doesn't know and let's you have it cheap. Your likelyhood of this is slim to fuck all though.

What the fuck are they training them to do, stick as much tat on as possible?

Anyway, I bet it would be worth plenty, but equally they'll want top dollar. You need to wait until it's forgotten about, covered in dust, and they don't offer that course any more so it's just in the way.

If you buy it, I'll chip in a tenner if you video those mudflaps being set on fire.

Today's generation of prospective 'workmen' will keep 'modding' it until it's an absolute mess all the while talking in that bizarre east London accent that they'll have despite living in Rotherham. It'll be covered in pineapple stickers and drift yo! As they stand back sporting the sort of moustache that resembles ivy growing along a garage wall.

Shame its messed about with.  I do love a MK4 XR3i in 88' spec, doglegs and drivers lights in Mercury grey.

I think that one a '90 efi with the black spoiler. I could be wrong though!

No. Just checked. It's a '90 spec EFI

Yeah, 90 spec had the black spoiler with the little droopy wings, the earlier ones were pointy towards the back.

Not sure why a technical function would have chosen such a godawful offset for the wheels, are they off summat RWD?

Always wondered with these unregistered ex training/demo/development/whatever cars, would it actually be possible to get them registered for the road now, or are they forever stuck as ornaments

Seen an unregistered Granada Scorpio and Rover 75 come up recently for auction, both of which I wouldn't have minded buying and putting 25k miles a year on as a daily beater.

Those wheels actually look like Peugeot et18 offset rims. 4x108 pcd but completely wrong offset

Gateshead College have a 'car body auto refinish' shed on the Team Valley estate.

Selection of gratis Nissan (obvs) and sprinkling of other $hit[e] ;)

Currently housing a 'Windsor Great Park' EV truck, sans coachworks. Wonder if HRH will be shuffling through.. "It gives me.." shizzle.

Saw an absolutely mint one of these just yesterday driven by an old couple. It really surprised me as I haven't seen one in ages. Never liked them when new (sold loads of them) but they look good now. :)

purrrfikt rs turbo reshell innit

i always preferred 88 spec look to 90 spec, they looked a little more understated

i bet some ford licker would pay decent money to get that and put it back standard, i would anyway

When I was doing Mechanics at college, we had a early 80's BMW 528, an '81 XR3, a couple of old Toyota starlets and a brace of A series Mini engines on stands.

Obviously my college was not as flash as yours.....

I've a soft spot for the XR3i. A mate had one years ago in turquoise. Height of bad taste but I liked it

I'll take a mk3 any day, I hated the fisher price dash on the mk4 cars.

but at least they didnt crack like the lovely one in the mk3

We had a brand new never registered Metro! It only had a couple of hundred miles on it and absolutely no rust as it was always indoors. Apparently it was donated to the college by Austin/Rover. I'm pretty sure it was LHD too.

We also had an A reg Volvo 340, B reg Escort 1.6 Ghia, Y reg Polo, D reg Sierra, H reg Sierra diesel and a few others.

I'll take cracks over a dash that's designed for a 2 year old.

We had two brand new Mk5 Escorts when i was at college, which must have been over 6 years old at the time, both were 1.6 CVH Ghia's, the blue one was the mechanics project car and the red one was for the bodyshop side of things, It must have had over 100 coats of paint on it!

That's the trouble with college cars, they will have been taken to bits and reassembled dozens of times and have things wrong that you didn't even know could break.
