320touring's Rank Taxi 2 - 2004 Skoda Fabia TDi PD

At 8.35 this morning:

Started straight off the key, then died after 15 seconds.

2nd time I gave it a rev and waited 20secs.

Ran fine thereafter.

Although I *think* it feels a bit sluggish uphill.

Filter change may be a cheap option once back home.

I code read it too- no codes logged

Have a video of what its doing..

It kinda sounds to me like either a fuelling issue or a sensor fault?

Shared this with a tame mechanic mate - initial suspicion Is fuel filter - will blag one from hellfrauds and fit it asap.

Worth it as a punt, and to rule it out.

Top job, though isn't the PD self priming?

Not as far as I'm aware? Didn't want to stress the starter anyways!

Leccy in tank pump - turn the ign on for 3 secs til pump stops - turn ign off and back on again for 3 secs - repeat about 10 times and she's bled

Oh and why not fit the right filter . ? Iirc they have a temp regulated return valve on the top of them .

Common as muck filter

Because I couldn't get it in time - I needed the car today, so had to sort it last night. That's kinds the point of my blog post, being patient to get the filter would mean I'd only have to do it the once.

I'll change it over when I get the chance:) deffo only a temporary* fix

This bucket turned 160k on the way up tonight:)

Back to odd starting issues too- another filter and some actual time to fit should assist.

It has also carried the first TTT solutions transport task as a parts hauler for another shifter.

Delivery will occur at some point (having required 500 miles to move summert 45 miles)

Cheers for the collection sir, sorry I forgot to reply last night as was elbow deep in Alfa flakes.

Will probably have covered a wee bit more than 500 miles if you just leave it in the boot till next Glossop in 2 weeks.

Check yer afm , no codes will show up with that, but if you have vag com you can check its values, definitely worth keeping, some budget choice mods can make a huge difference, not that I'm biased of course!

In an astonishing turn of events, I changed the fuel filter seals (didn't do them when I did the filter as it was raining and I CBA:()

It looks like the last person who did the filters never bothered either they were buggered!

A quick self bleed (thanks to whoever let me know about that!) And she was back to starting reliably. Lesson learned- always do the seals!

Bouyed by such success I felt it was worth giving her a wee pandering..

Hoover n tidy inside, plus a whole 3.99 worth of car washing!

Suddenly it doesn't look so bad...

Top notch shite fixing, good spot on the seals.

Proper 'Bangernomics' motoring but all rules broken with a massive £3.99 on a car wash FFS but it id it as annual treat 'one off' then you might just get away with it.

Some folk whizz em through every week for a £5 - 1/4 of a bag a year on car wash, kin elll.

Lol!

To reward my efforts, we got a 51.43mpg tank:(

Must have been running like a fooking dog:(

Game is back on though as its just been filled:)

I'm calling it fixed.

628miles on 43.63l of derv at £1.147/L means a healthy 65.44mpg..

Rapidly approaching crunch time though, could do with two tyres shortly, and decent ones would be circa £100 fitted.

That tow bar looks removable if you'd like to go for the clean look.

I put GT radials on my Dads Fester and they're fine for the rampant 82 horses it has and cheap too.

2x Dunlop Sport BluResponse in 185/60/14 82H flavour getting fitted on Sat morning at a cost of £90.09.

Should be good:)

I've got a set of Dunlop BluResponse on my Focus and really rate them. Nice and quiet with excellent grip inc in the wet.
